2 player co-op has been Miyamoto's dream for decades. Luigi was originally going to be in Super Mario 64, and there was a build of the game which had him and Mario on the same map. Unfortunately, Luigi was removed at the last minute. Over a decade later, we got New Super Mario Bros Wii and Super Mario 3D World realising Miyamoto's vision, but both games were on rails and had time limits. It's not too far-fetched that we will see a 2-player Mario game where the second character isn't the gimmick. It would be so awesome, not just to the fans but to Miyamoto himself, to see Mario and Luigi running around an open world environment in HD.

Mario Galaxy ended up having planned DLC of some sort, which they decided should become Mario Galaxy 2. If the devs kept thinking of new ideas for ~12 kingdoms, it could have gone from Sliver Star as DLC, to SPRed as a proper sequel.

When Odyssey initially launched, Miyamoto did say that Odyssey was more of a tech demo to test the Switch’s limits. He also said not to count out the possibility of a Galaxy 3. If they added the open world aspects of Odyssey, and added tons of Planets to explore openly, instead of kingdoms, THAT would be amazing!

Actually those code names do mean something. They’re not just random names. We could decipher it. Each of them has red, signifying it’s a Mario game. The extra word typically describes something that happens in the game. Big red signifies the mega mushroom being a staple of the DS New Super Mario Bros games Red Dash for Super Luigi U because you only get 100 seconds on the clock to complete each level and the controls are more slippery causing you to dash and jump higher, and you have to do a mad dash to the exit if you wanna win. Red Carpet because because the red carpets are heavily used in the level design of the game, with the loading screen even somewhat being a red carpet that you select your character off of, which is definitely a reference to SMB2. In SMB2 you can pick Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Blue Toad, just like SMB3DWRLD. In SMB2 you pick your characters off a theater stage, and what is always there outside of a theater or movie production on the premiere? A red carpet. Red Bull because bulls are know for running fast and not stopping, which is basically exactly what Mario does in Mario Run. Red star maybe because of Jump Up Super Star for Odyssey. Odyssey is a love letter to SM64 where you’re always collecting stars. The S at the end of the Deluxe and SM3DWRLD + Bowsers Fury signifying that they’re ports. Sec (short for secret) red because there are secret sections of the level that can only be obtained by touching the wonder flower. A big part of it is finding the secrets hidden in the flower sections. It’s very clear that most of these have intentionally been given codenames that describe some part of the game or the games development. I don’t know all of them but these guesses should be enough to show that there is meaning behind these names if you look hard enough. But hey, that’s just a theory my friends, a game theory.

eh I mean I don't think they're necessarily referencing what's in the final game. They could either be based on a pre-dev concept or just some inside reference to how the idea was first introduced. Like maybe Mario 3D Land was originally coined with the idea of a pepper power up, before they decided to base it on the tanooki leaf. Or 3D World could be called "red carpet" because a red carpet was rolled out during the board meeting where they thought of this, idfk

Some of these codenames make sense. Red pro could be because mario bros u is basicly an upgraded version of the other nsmb games, red dash could be because luigi u is supposed to be a speedrun/fast paced game, and red bull would make sense because of mario running fast like a bull (that one's a bit of a stretch) but those are just my thoughts.

@@Hollow_Horizons It's not a terrible game or anything, but I can understand why Nintendo wants to forget about it. It's a poorly executed fusion of platforming and RPG elements, the system is easy to break and the bosses are a joke, the level design is abysmal, the world and characters feel very boilerplate and is just made of geometric shapes with faces, the game gets too in your face with a romance subplot that is completely unrelated to the main characters and kind of feels out of place in the game as a whole. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it and there's so many unique things here, but I can understand why Nintendo could see it as a "mistake". I played SPM before TTYD but after the first game (64), and as much as it had it's great moments, it felt like it butchered what the first game stood for.

Considering Nintendo's history i think it is a super mario odissey port for "switch 2" but with a dlc thats exclusive for "switch 2". But I still have hopes for a Super Mario Odissey 2, and that is a possibility to consider on this matter. For now, however, we cant know for sure.
