I believe the truck is still around actually. The fire lasted no more than 5 seconds and was put out with the issued fire extinguisher. The fire caused very minor damage.

First, it is going to be 35 years of my interest in garbage trucks. I thought I was going to be the only one interested in these vehicles way back then. Second, my dad was a garbage man. He heard and saw everything unusual including what was in garbage cans that should not be thrown away with the garbage including engine oil and a car battery which led to hazmat incidents with the car battery being worse and almost lit the garbage truck. Luckily he spotted some smoke, radio in the office and was told to go to the landfill right away. The people working in the landfill got the call and found a car battery. He even found an engine block in a garbage can he tried lifting but would not budge. He put a notice of no collection on the garbage can with the engine block but the customer was upset and was going to complain to the garbage collection office. No luck because it was a valid reason because it is too heavy to lift. Every week on Monday he goes to the mountain towns which get snow during the winter. He got stuck on an unpaved private road with snow in an area where he could not radio the office but another garbage man heard him try to radio the office and relayed his radio call to the office for him. He was on a highway to the mountain towns when the garbage truck started to skid and spin out of control from the ice. Luckily the highway had no traffic at the time after gaining control of the truck. He ended his job almost 25 years ago from a work-related injury he was not able to go back to work forever. This type of job deserves the same respect as freight truck drivers who face so many challenges even though it is garbage collecting.

Wow that escalated quickly. There is a little but of smoke then the hydraulic line blows. I suspect that unit was a total loss. I wonder if he overloaded the bin? They really should put some seats in these trucks now that the driver isn't getting in and out all day.

I'm guessing the Mack Mc Neilus FL had a issues which led up to Fire got lose but they left before it gets worse
