So a lot of people think the bead story is BS?! The explanation from the esthetician is VERY odd and honestly doesn’t make any sense right?! I personally think, she must have had an already open wound. Maybe some breakouts as well as already enlarged pores that the beads just sat in. Someone in the comments made a good point that as it was a guest cleanser, often not used, it could’ve been expired and the beads hardened. I dunno it’s all a bit odd!

I don’t think the bead cleanser story is BS. I think it’s very possible for that to happen. I also think pores do open wider at certain times. I know the pores around my nose and cheeks look larger and smaller sometimes. I also think pores are definitely large enough for those beads to get lodged in them. I think the problem is Neutrogena wasn’t using the correct type of beads they claimed they were using on their label. It doesn’t look like those beads in their cleanser were biodegradable, and weren’t breaking down like they’re supposed to. I definitely this this really happened, and I don’t see why it wouldn’t 🤷🏻♀️ There’s a hole in your face, and a product has teeny beads in it, and you’re rubbing those teeny beads all over the holes on your face. Of course….logically…those beads could get trapped.

I had a bad experience with one of these makeup kiosk places. I had my make up done for a job interview. I wanted some new earrings before I went in so I ran to the mall. I walked by one of these kiosks and a lady ran at me and tried to sell me some of their make up. When I said no she took a cotton swab and started wiping off my make up. She said not to worry she would use their makeup and give me a full makeover. After a minute I noticed that she was only working on one side of my face. When she was done with one side she told me I had to pay to get the other side done. I told her I was on my way to a job interview I could not go in with half of a face of makeup. She told me if I bought $50 worth of make up from her that she would do the other half. unfortunately I had no choice so I had to pay her because I did not have time to go home to reapply my make up. So not only did she use the wrong foundation color making me orange 🍊 the make up also made me break out really bad. I have sensitive skin and I had to go into my job interview with red blotches on my face. I was livid. The silver lining is that I got the job. When I went into the interview I explained my appearance and we had a good laugh at it. They loved my personality and said I would be great for the sales job.

I feel like it’s definitely a bad idea to use a physical exfoliant when you have active acne. I could totally see it opening breakouts and causing problems. I suppose one way a micro bead could get trapped is by getting into a wound (like a pimple) and the skin healing over it.

Honestly, I have active acne and a gentle physical exfoliant is what I use-and it helps, loads. My skin HATES AHAs and only tolerates a little BHA, or else it turns dry as the Sahara and breaks out massively-and I’m talking, for months. I decided to try a physical one and found it much more helpful, particularly when followed by a soothing and hydrating wash off mask.

Yes, I've got large pores and had moderate to severe cystic acne on my back and face as a teenager. I used to scrub the absolute crap out of my skin with SUGAR and St Ives lol ugh. Not sure if anything ever got stuck in there but trying to sandblast my acne away obviously didn't work lol. It was the 00s and people were generally much more ignorant about skincare back then. There are still pockmarked areas along my jaw and cheeks at 31 from the acne, and the aggressive "exfoliation" in my teens on active breakouts likely made them worse than they would have been otherwise. After my acne was under control and healed I did get dermabrasion for 250 dollars in 2013 to help lessen the scarring which did work marvelously, but it was a painful procedure and recovery time. There are (and were) more advanced procedures available but they also cost a LOT more. So I would definitely recommend trying it if you can't afford lasers or pro microdermabrasion and your skin type is suitable. It helped my self image and confidence immensely! Plus it is a more affordable old school method. However.. I will say it is painful, I did mine with no anesthesia because it cost another 100 dollars and it was pretty intense. I would recommend against forgoing the anesthetic lol I'm surprised that they even allowed it. Imagine the worst sunburn you ever had times 5... with a cat scratching it and rubbing alcohol poured on your face. It burns like fire! It took about a month for my face to start looking normal again too, but in spite of all that I will say it was 100 percent worth every penny and ounce of discomfort. Good luck to whoever might read this novel lol 😅😘

My sister asked “what am I fuckin ugly?”, and the people got uncomfortable and left her alone lol. My mom got trapped basically in that same store and they refused to let her leave, they were physically grabbing at her arms and dragging her in. They brought her in the back room and everything. On the topic of super aggressive marketing: I was at the mall with my family, and while I don't remember the name of the company, there was a kiosk selling this under eye bag shrinking cream. My family was minding our own business walking, and the salesman stood in our way and commented on my mom's under eyes. He wanted to put the cream on her so she could sample it. My mom tried to explain she didn't want to because she'd been having a lot of allergic reactions lately and was seeing a specialist to make sure she didn't have an autoimmune disorder. The man completely brushed off what she said and told her it was safe. He proceeded to reach out to put the product on her face without her consent. At this point, my mom had to essentially yell at him to stop. My dad tried to deescalate the situation and let the sales guy put the cream on him. The cream ended up tightening the skin in a weird way and made his under eye look like there was a giant bag. Needless to say, we walked away pretty frustrated about the entire situation. Like you can't just put something on someone without their consent.

I personally think kiosks are a big part of what is killing shopping malls. Back when the halls were wide open and dotted with huge planters, water features, and seating nooks, the malls were such a nice place to go when you just want to get out but the weather is too hot, cold, or rainy. But then they started tearing out these features to make room for kiosks that cause traffic jams and choke points and tend to attract scammy businesses and pushy salespeople. Now malls feel too noisy, crowded, and stressful. Fuck Westfield in particular. They've ruined so many formerly nice malls.

Only time in my life my hair has curled for more than a minute before going straight again. But I noticed they tried to get me to buy the thing without telling me a price and I aggressively had to ask how much. The price changed everytime they told me. Which didn't matter because I told them that unless that thing was under $50 I don't have the money to buy it. They started saying stuff like "Of course you have the money to buy it. What else could you possibly need that money for. " umm...groceries, so I can eat for the rest of the week. "Oh you don't need to eat." After they told me that I don't need to eat I just pushed them off me so I could get out of their chair. They were yelling at me as I walked down the hall that I had just waisted their time and they were very angry. I also noticed the lady in charge was very harsh with the employees.

She started using the products on my hands, and she kept insisting that I buy the product because at the time, I was a kid going through puberty and I had acne. She offered an insane discount and I ended up buying the product under pressure. But the product ended up costing way more than I thought, bc the lady scammed her way into having me think I was getting a good discount when in reality, I wasn't. Bc you know, I was a literal kid, and I was naive. I ended up leaving and crying, and I felt so much guilt that I didn't even use the products that I bought. She’s not equipped to be rude to strangers (Irish, lol) she agreed to buy some, then they hit her with a massive price tag. She told me she cried when she got home. I’ve seen her cry like twice ever. She hid it all from my Dad cause she was ashamed of being duped. She made me take most of the stuff when she came home cause it made her feel old and cringe to even see it. I wanna say as someone who also earns commission, there is no excuse for the Sakare tactics. It’s entirely possible to respect your customers and work in their best interest while also earning decent commission. Granted I’m in phone sales vs skin care, but my company has NEVER encouraged unethical behavior like trapping a customer. Clearly they focus on trapping customers and getting as much money out of them as possible on their first trip because they know they won’t be back, where any semi-decent company would know the real profits & commission comes from customer retention.
@FitChickGlows2 жыл бұрын
It’s not just about the commission. It’s also about that company’s sales targets for those stores. And it sounds like they must have some ridiculous targets to meet. Which pressures them IMMENSELY to be PASSIONATE about the products and of course trained to sell in that aggressive manner to make the sales and the targets. Aggressive sales tactics means they are most likely working under highly pressurized unreasonable sales targets. I wouldn’t be surprised if those SA’s are just as exploited as the customers they are selling to.

We had a company like that all over Toronto selling Dead Sea mineral beauty products just like them. And I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they are the exact same company just under a different name. AND then I stopped. However, I did find the products very impressive. You can’t underestimate Dead Sea mineral ingredients and their formulations and products and some innovations were excellent. Were they worth that amount? NO. More like Dior prices BUT NO La Mer prices. 😂 I think their sales tactics shot them in the foot. As doing that to what I felt WAS excellent products was putting me off from being a repeat customer. Too expensive and too aggressive. They could’ve had me as a repeat customer if their pricing had been better suited to their products and they sold in an ethical manner. And then they would NOT need to sell that way. It's true though, in my late teens and early twenties, I was followed home, followed around the streets, publicly had my breasts groped on the sidewalk in broad daylight, had my butt slapped in a large shop surrounded by other people, and even stalked, by older men that I didn't know, simply because I didn't want to be rude when they tried to strike up conversations with me. It was so ingrained in me that I had to be polite that I would jeopardise my safety for the sake of being "nice". I would always politely make my excuses and try not to engage much, but some creeps will literally take you simply acknowledging them as a green light to feel entitled to harass you. I always looked a lot younger than my age, and I'm pretty short, so I guess I seemed like an easy target, and I was. I was also very naive. It's awful, not to mention terrifying. Thankfully, I eventually learned to not be scared of being rude when necessary. Nowdays I wouldn't hesitate to rip someone's head off if they were being creepy, or if I witnessed it happening to a young, vulnerable girl.

@@EmEm78 omg same!! i can't even count how often i was sexually harassed by men because i rejected them too politely. since one or two years i changed my behavior towards men i don't know drastically and give a harsh answer whenever some guy wants to ask me anything, even though some of them just want to know what way they have to take to get to the main station or something like that. i actually feel bad then, but i actually don't know how to differentiate anymore, as most of them act normal when they talk first to you and only show their real intentions once they get rejected.

Why does no one believe the beads story? I had those blue beads in Proactive MD get stuck in my nose’s pores. Thought it was blackheads (which i had never had before) but upon closer examination and squeezing around them the blue bead would come out. I only had it happen on my nose where I do have very large pores. A lot of these beads in products don’t dissolve very well and can get pressed into larger pores if not paying attention. I used to used the clean and clear morning burst as a kid and never had problems with those beads, those used to pop upon washing my face or just go down the drain. Anyways, for the environment and also for my skin, I do not use any products that contain micro beads anymore. I’m not saying the open and closing pores with water was an accurate description of our skin but those of us with large pores can easily get a micro bead or two stuck in our large pores. Basically if it fits, it fits.

I recently went into business with someone who worked as a salesman at one of those “aggressive sales tactic” places. We reserved a booth at a trade show & bought moisturizers, peels and under eye “syringes” that remove under eye bags and everything was like $3 a piece and were sold for $75 bare minimum but some people bought syringes for $400 each. We also bought red light therapy machines for $100 each and they sold for $2k plus. I withdrew from the business the very first day when I saw how straight up slimy and predatory it was. Older, confused people were targeted and my business partner literally had people max out multiple credit cards for the red light therapy machines. People with CANCER were told it would help their cancer. I literally haven’t even spoken to that “friend” since that, it was disturbing how cold, manipulative and greedy it all was. A VERY profitable industry to go into though, if you have no conscience

Before malls started to die out in the US, we would see kiosks pop up around the holidays using similar, aggressive sales tactics. They would put hand cream on your hands or buff one of your nails (so you'd have one random shiny and thin nail). My best defense was making sure my nails were painted, or waiting for another mall-goer to be caught in their clutches before I could pass by safely. Hiding behind a large crowd also worked. 😂

They used to have a lot of those Dead Sea skin care scam kiosks in the shopping malls around my area (southern California). They will legit chase you if you walk too close to the kiosks. Same thing-immediately slathering that scratchy salt stuff on your hands. I eventually got to where I could spot the trouble kiosks from a distance and I would walk/run as close to the edge of the walkway as possible. Sometimes they would still give chase and I would duck into whatever store I was passing by. They’ve become less common-I imagine malls kicked them out for scaring shoppers away from the mall entirely. I did get tricked into buying the product once. I paid $90 in 2013 dollars for a crappy hand lotion, cuticle oil, and nail buffer set. You can get better stuff in today’s money for $20 at the drugstore. It’s as bad as an MLM.

As a former salesperson and telemarketer (renewing and upselling magazine subscriptions) the main thing that works consistently is to keep saying you are broke because it is the one thing they cannot argue with. Granted you can just hang up if it's over the phone lol, but even then, social conventions make us naturally feel obligated to keep talking and be cordial even if the person is bothersome in some way. Don't be rude to telemarketers though, if anything just hang up instead of verbally abusing them because they are just trying to follow orders and make a living. Most (if not all) don't get commission, have supervisors constantly breathing down their neck and listening in on the calls, pushing the worker to be more aggressive. At that time in 2014/15 I made minimum wage to harass people during dinner and bedtime basically cause I worked the evening shift. Thankfully I have long since quit that job. But yes salespeople can and will (legally!) use strongarm and psychological tactics to get you to cave. They will try to wear you down, so do the same as I said before, just keep telling them "I'm broke, sorry." "No I can't afford any of this!" "Leave me alone, I have no money" etc. In face to face interactions making eye contact and speaking with some backbone and conviction are critical, which is why they prey upon the meek or naive. Even if you are the timid or socially anxious type this can be difficult but it will help you out of many other hairy situations in life to be able to say "NO" and mean it, without guilt. To nip things in the bud, when a salesperson or any other pest is trying to approach and harass you in public don't look at them or make eye contact. Pretend they don't exist, and if you are walking do not stop! Just keep going. Basically if you can't ignore them, play their game lol. If you want to have some fun you can troll them, for example, with the skincare salespeople mentioned in the video tell them you don't have skin and keep walking 🤣

Oh my gosh, hearing the goop story reminds me a lot of this incident that happened where two little girls made a makeshift alcohol burner for making popcorn or something. That ended in tragedy and it's made very clear all over the internet that you should never ever use liquid alcohol to do something like that. All it takes is the flame following the vapors up into the container of liquid and it will explode in your hand sending flaming liquid everywhere. That's why at restaurants you're not supposed to pour alcohol straight from the bottle for any of those flaming dishes that they make at tables and stuff.

I told the guy I need to have my card refunded right away and he said they can't do that. I was so mad, I said I never asked for or agreed to pay for that stuff and eventually he refunded my money except for the one item I wantes but let me keep all the products, probably because he knew they totally scammed me and didn't want to be reported!

I worked in a mall in the USA for years where a similar brand selling Dead Sea Salt products had carts. They had the same aggressive selling tactics that you are describing. They would rebrand the product like it was something completely different every year. Throughout the the 2010s, you would see these carts across the USA almost always setup in front of a Victoria Secret, I assume because it was a high traffic area. The ones in my local mall were odd because the people working the carts were all immigrants who were brought to sell these products. Eventually, it was found that a lot or most of these sales people were being brought in on the wrong visa, not one that would allow them to work in the USA. A lot of the business weakened and soon after, the covid lockdown happened, so they've disappeared for the last 2 years. I'm very curious as to how these people were being compensated if they didn't have a proper work visa, were being brought to the USA by the company, and were living together. You can look up the owner, Omer Gur. He was sentenced to jail in the United States for conspiracy to defraud the US and launder in using the business. I wonder if it's a similar thing with the UK brand because it sounds 100% the same. It's literally the same Dead Sea Salt and the same sales tactics.

It seems more likely in the cystic acne story that a bead was stuck since with cystic acne there are wounds that something could easily get stuck in and then heal over - and that would have been pre -microplastics ban. My best guess as to how the beads situations can happen is an already congested pore previously being extracted leaving the stretched hole. This has happened to me in the past and results in ice pick scarring when not prepped properly. OMG the Sakare story reminded me of when there was a pop up like that in a shopping centre near me. As someone who gets contact dermatitis on my hands, them immediately beginning to exfoliate my hand without warning was scary!

That bead story - It's 2022, when there is something weird/needs derm's attention, my aesthetician either shows me, hands me a mirror, or takes a photo on my phone - or all of the above. we need pics so we can further investigate, not just a story time tiktok. (Not victim blaming, just saying missed opportunity for figuring this out)

When I was a teenager a woman began to polish one of my nails at a mall. She talked and talked and then looked at me in the eyes and told me they were beautiful. I blushed. Then I ran off to catch my parents.

I had one of those pop-up skin care people get angry at me when I started to walk away. He had been very pushy and basically made me let him put some crazily strong scented hand cream on me. I was poor and absolutely couldn't buy anything anyway. So I said no thanks and started to walk away and he got rude and pissy! Hurled some insult at me. Awful awful!

I used to use Crest 3D white toothpaste. Whilst at the dentist it's common practice to have a cleaning done prior to seeing the actual dentist by the hygienist. During my cleaning she removed HUNDREDS, yep, hundreds of those beads from under my gums...

Omg, James I had a VERY SIMILAR shopping experience several years back. Was in my local mall killing time waiting for my bus to come. There was a pop up skin care brand seller (can't remember the name) and she lured me to her with the exfoliating product. I thought at the time it was ok because I actually did need a good exfoliating scrub. After the demo she pushed a bunch of other products at me and wouldn't let me leave without buying them. She then walked me over to her colleague's pop up hair tool stand and he did a styling demo on me and pushed the styling tool on me and some other products and now the total was very close to $500. This was definitely too much for me to handle and I left the mall in tears. I know now to avoid eye contact and just ignore these guys. That was my absolute worst shopping experience ever.

A dead sea skin care seller once tried to get me into their sphere of influence. I don't know how my meek Canadian self was all 'do not touch me. Step back' But here I am many years later with drug store spf and doing fine. I assume the stranger danger lessons of my youth kicked in?

Addicted to your videos. I worked in the medical cosmetic industry for 7.5 years. Those Sakura/deep sea salt people were in my local shopping centre for a long time (all the way over here in Western Australia). There were advertising “a natural alternative to Botox”. I marched right up to them and asked how they were legally allowed to use the name Botox in advertising ( illegal here in Australia) and how could they possibly compare an exfoliator that may have a minor effect on skin texture to a prescription drug that paralyses muscle movement? They tried to talk their way out of it but ultimately could not answer that and were pretty glad to get rid of me!! HA HA!!

I had the Clinique micro scrub beads/abrasives get stuck in my pores 😭 my nose pores were large and the lady at the counter told me it would make them “smaller” and I used that and this pore serum… I hope they don’t still sell that crud or at least changed the abrasives

I used to use the Neutrogena Morning Burst and never really had issues. It felt like all the beads dissolved as you use it. Maybe back in the day it was different but I have super sensitive skin and was chillin.

I used to use a clean and clear bead exfoliant every day, for years, and did once have a bead get stuck in my pore. I watched it go in and freaked out, and essentially just attacked that pore until it came out. It only happened once over a course of years but it is possible.

i’m an anxious person so i’m forever feeling pressured into purchases i don’t want. i have a fear of answering phone calls, after some encouragement from my mother i answered a phone call from EE and without saying yes to an additional contract, i ended up with a 24 month sim only plan i had no use for, i still pay for it each month and it’s never been used😂 i can laugh about it but it’s definitely one of the more annoying things i’ve been pressured into paying for. but at this point i’ve felt bullied into buying so much stuff by salespeople that approach me in my city and i’m waaay too anxious to stand my ground, now i just pretend to not hear them and continue walking because i’ve learned that saying “no thank you” doesn’t work and eventually they stop following you. it makes me so sad that people would target the elderly because they’re easier to manipulate

Yep, that's why whenever a person from the store walks up to me, I politely decline everything and anything they suggest, I think it's hilarious when they look mad about it

When I see the beads incident, I remember how the apricot scrub scarred me for life. I used the scrub when I was a teen, one sharp edge attached to my right side, near my ears area... I didn't know it happened after just 4 days, a small bump appeared and then whole area become painful then I went dermatologist thinking I have an allergy. By that time the particle went like 3 layer deep by rupture and I still have a pit which ll never go.. 🥺🥺

When I was like 9 or 10 I went up to one of those mall kiosks when my mom wasn't looking because I was starting to be very interested in things like makeup and I thought the kiosk smelled good. The lady working the kiosk suddenly started rubbing lotion on my hands and my mom saw and IMMEDIATELY pulled me away and started telling me about how these kiosk brands will try to aggressively trick you into buying stuff. I don't really know why they started doing the hand lotion thing with me seeing as I was obviously too young to spend a lot of money, maybe they figured my mom would join in and buy something for me which very much turned out NOT to be the case lol.

I remember a couple of years ago my family and I were in NOLA and went to a mall around there. We came across a sketchy skincare store that looked fancy but had one of those aggressive salespeople who dragged my mom in. It was so hard to get away and we were going to be late for our flight so I tried to persuade my mom to leave. But the sales lady would NOT stop talking and we kept telling her we needed to leave. I then had to try to be more aggressive with my mom and drag her out, then finally we were able to go. I later looked up that brand/store online and found out how sketchy they really were.

The micro bead thing happened to me too. Just one though, on my cheekbone. Not cheap face scrub either; it was Clarins.

There are other stores like that Sakare, here in America. Specially in the Orlando Outlet Malls which are full of tourists! It’s horrible.

💕🌹💕 Love it! I have this 1 stoneware set that's green with black and gold speckle and I just feel so special when I use it for my meal vs a paper plates or my cheap plastic plates. Been thinking I might pickup 1 or 2 random plates from World Market and just make my nightly dinners feel a bit special
