Distributed power unit, in other words they have locomotives that are separated throughout the train To provide extra power on longer or Heavier trains And bc of modern communication It's all controlled from the lead unit All the engineer has to do is set the Controls on the DPU's before heading out and drive the train. BEYOND AWESOME!! Jaw Tooth, you outdid yourself on this video! Trains over diamonds, a inter-mod, some nice scans of the Florida area, AND the exhaust trail from a rocket launch! Could even hear the 'thunder' of the propulsion units! I really like how you do 'intelligent exploring' - you use that seemingly rare trait of days back called "common sense" when you're out and about finding unique and wonderful things to share with us. Never seen Tropicana on the east/west line that goes Tampa to Lakeland. I used to always see it heading north through Plant City from the Bradenton plant. It would come in on that other track that comes in from the west but south of Downtown and then head north. I remember when I first moved to Florida in 2003, my dad who was a real train fanatic too and I went to Plant City. We saw 6 trains in about 90 minutes that day Amtrack going each way, The Juice train heading north with only Tropicana cars, nothing else. There was a Phosphate train heading north. CSX local heading north with only about 20 cars. There was a big unit train with empty hoppers coming in from the east before heading north - makes me think that it was the OUC power plant coal train going back empty on a reroute.

That was a good-sized train that you saw at Dade City, Florida with the mid-train DPU. You and Millennial Force made a good decision to chage locations and go to Plant City, Florida to do some train watching. The train action at Plant City, Florida was better. It was nice that you were able to catch the Amtrak train going to Tampa and returning. The intermodal train with the Tropicana refrigerated cars on the front was a great catch before the sun set.

We come to Florida every winter. Sometimes I come twice a winter. I find the spots by looking at Google Maps. Deland is another awesome spot that I go to sometimes. It has a nice train station and the Amtrak Auto Train. Wish I would have gone there this year
