Over 15 years as a GFS delivery driver here. I do 3x12 shifts. Most other shifts are 4x10s. Even on 12 hour shifts, the days feel a lot shorter than they are. Compensation is great. Time off is unbeatable. I had thought about quitting 1 month in when I first started, but it was a significant pay increase from my previous job so I stuck with it and am very glad that I did. Once you get used to where you are going and can recognize boxes so that you can find what you are looking for more easily, it gets much better and you develop a routine to maximize your efficiency. It is a young person's job though so I would not recommend it to people looking to start over the age of 35 unless you are used to the type of work and even for those of us who are, most of our bodies are telling us to hang up our handcart by age 50. GFS has good opportunities in other departments though.

@brendand36002 жыл бұрын
@@fabio_santoro It depends. As a delivery driver, I would say most likely yes, it is too late unless either you are very fit or are just looking to do it for the short term. There are other positions too. In my area, we have one GFS warehouse and then many surrounding depots. Trailers get transferred from the warehouse to the depots (usually at night). The transfer driver's job is just moving the trailers from point A to point B. No lifting involved.

@MikeHart722 жыл бұрын
Delivery drivers have a different formula pay than transit drivers. Their pay works out to a bit less because they do less work but it’s not a huge difference which is good considering the transit drivers work through the night. I was a delivery driver but did fill in here and there hauling the B-trains. It’s not something I could do full time because I find it hard to work at night and sleep during the day.

@@SRTYatted linehaul for a freight company. Some may require dock work, but that's still better than unloading 1200 cases. Or a delivery job where you're unloading pallets with a pallet jack. Not hating, but 900-1100 for that type of work isn't good money. That's very low tbh. And I speak from experience because I started out as a Mclane driver. The longer you stay, the more you make with food service. You're only 2 months in so I guess that's why the pay isn't great, but again...the money you will make if you stay there can be made somewhere else that's not as physically demanding
