A watchmakers trick for dealing with wear in the holes various pivots turn in is to use what's called a staking set to use a pair of slightly rounded punches to close those holes back up by taping on the punch which mushrooms in the metal. This is done enough to create an undersized hole, and then the hole is opened back up the amount needed with a smoothing broach. The broach also serves to harden the metal inside the hole. The same thing could easily be done using a drill press or a milling machine. Using punches or some other hard metal surfaces that are convex shaped on their tips, line them up one pointing up one pointing down in the chuck, and then while holding the heat sink perpendicular to the punches pull down on the feed handle bumping the metal and then checking the size of the hole. A round file would work but a broach would be better because it opens the hole making the walls harder and doesn't remove material. If the hole is carefully closed up just the right amount of creating the proper interference fit, opening the hole back up can be avoided.

From what I was told about the Dave Mades being upside down is in accurate. They were made specifically so the heat sink was on top of the cabinet for basic laws of heat principle. Hot air naturally rises so when the heat sink started getting warm A natural flow of air would pass through the heat sink as the warm air would rise drafting cooler air from below on amps with no forced cooling by fan. But that’s the way I heard it passed along the grapevine

I have some stud mount transistors left. MRF 450A/455A/453A/454A/492A/421A and some odd ones. I kept a oddball box for myself . 4- MRF 453-A and is biased with a 1N4997A press fit diode and has low pass filter board. Just had bad relay and some mica capps off value . Used output transformer for combiner and input transformer for splitter. Has DSS on it. Very clean but most 2 pill 2SC2879 puts out more watts . 73

You ever tried baking paint on in a toaster oven? Usually a few hundred degrees for say 10 minutes makes things get nice and hard. I do it on stuff I'm going to put in my car that's scratch prone. That old amp is cool, you certainly don't see a lot of those these days. Nothing fancy but beats going barefoot.
