hi kate, the 1/4 inch rope is good for the halter, but you would find it very big and bulky for a noseband. You want the paracord to compliment the halter. give it a go, and see if you like it.

Yes, you can buy different sizes, the most common is 550 paracord which is what i use, you can also get 440, and micro. I don't know the mm, it is always termed as 550 - if you google "550 paracord", you will see.
