It's a shame that the film jammed, I would love to see more direct comparisons. The first shot is amazing, of course modern camera and lens offers much better quality and dynamic range, yet... The flare, the dense darkness near the bottom, it all gives this photo something that you sometimes don't know you wanted from it. It just has some undeniable charisma

I've always been impressed by the ability of "classical" street photographers like Cartier Bresson and Doisneau to capture spontaneous images and "the decisive moment" with no automation of any kind. Like you said a small aperture plus pre-focusing at a hyperfocal distance is a useful technique, as well as setting exposure for the overall lighting conditions and relying on black and white film's latitude to get a usable negative.

Well this video is a pleasant change Nigel, I love your indoor videos, but this video you've played a blinder, especially using the classic older cameras. More of this format please fella. Regards Rob.

@@zenography7923 I am living in Australia. And pop back to Blighty often to visit family and friends. I am a south Londoner. If you ever have another street photography session and the timing works, and would love to join you. Keep these videos coming. It makes my day watching your reviews!

Back in my film days. Many a time I wondered " did I get what I saw" and have to wait to get the photos back from the lab. Lol and many a time I did and many a time no. But as I gained experience I caught more and more and less misses. Digital doesn't have that issue. I shot slide for years. I used different film speed and brand emulsions. Kodak " chrome" was my # 1 with Fuji for bright reds, blues and green. Agfa....pastel. I still miss film .

I can understand your confusion at the beginning. That looks just like the Yorkshire Dales. 😅 The area just south of St Paul's is very interesting and surprisingly historic considering it's in the middle of the City of London. You might like to visit Battersea Power Station which is now a shopping centre but retains much of it's old feel like the Tate Modern.
@zenography79233 ай бұрын
I'll check out battersea, I remember seeing it from the train when it was very dilapidated years ago. Would have been interesting to shoot it at that time too.

That Zorkie 4K was my first camera I bought back in 1973, but lost it in a card game!! I got great sharp photo's from that and wish I still had it, although it cost me £24 brand new with the Jupitor lens back in the day. Very disappointed not to see pics from the Zorkie!

One thing with the 4k, the viewfinder/rangefinder is great, and the diopter is really good for adjusting for glasses *but*, the diopter adjust is far to easy to accidentally knock.

FOCUS ? Well, I guess if you've never used a real CAMERA 📷 before, it could be hard, for the first day or to. But I started Photography before I turned age 10. And I've NEVER had any issues with "Focus". Other then an occasional (rarely) shot via my "Phone" I still NEVER USE AUTO-FOCUS.
@caw25sha3 ай бұрын
Good for you but some of us don't have 20:20 vision any more, and as they said it's not easy to look through the viewfinder with glasses. Also, despite what Leica aficionados may claim, a rangefinder isn't as quick and easy as a split prism, at least not until you've had time to get used to it.

I am not a street photographer. I fit in with photojournalists, similar but with a mission. So, watching this video was a hoot. Two old guys who breathed, ate and slept with film, like me in the old days. It was fun. Going to suggest that these two grab some old 70s, 80s SLRs like the Pentax and Nikon FM with lens of choice. Focusing is fast and easy with an SLR versus rangefinder. I shot with Nikon and Pentax for years and had a great time. But I found out playing street photographer with the Sony A7CR (A7C/A7CII will also do) and found it to be blazing fast and accurate in focusing. It's street photography on steroids. Best part is I didn't run out of film. Didn't put a dent in the SSD.

The leica photos have a distinct "aura" on the people, whilst the sony one does not have that. Just my opinion.

From an old photo mag, in 1973 the Zorki with lens was £15-20. (Average wage for average Jo is said to have been £40 a week)

From memory I'd say average Jo's wage would have been nearer £15 or so, I may be wrong though

Try for fun shooting with the Nikon FM2 SLRs. Rangefinders are slow and seem not too accurate by SLR standards. Try it, see how fast you can react, focus and get good shots. I love SLR film cameras.

I like the colours of the film but then when the Sony shots are processed in black and white it 'feels' better than the colour film, maybe another tour seeing black and white film v Sony being processed to black and white would be good
