1:59 Hi I just had retinal detachment at the bottom of my left eye & several tears surgery on done in 27/3/23. A Gas bubble was inserted & laser was done on the tears. Had to face down for 3 weeks after surgery. After which my Dr said my retina had reattached & was healing well. Unfortunately on the 6th week the retina started to detach & tear again. 8/5/23 had a more complex scleral buckle with silicone oil surgery done on my left eye again. After 4 days of facing down, Dr said my retina has reattached again. My eye will be very swollen & bloody for the next few weeks. This has strengthened my Faith & I pray daily now.

Hey. I had my retinal surgery around 3/3/2024. Around the time you had. In my left eye, the bottom part was detached. I had no symptoms whatsoever. My prescription has gone up. So i have made high index glasses, but i feel like my peripheral vision is distorted due to high index. I see flashes and a lot of floaters after surgery which i didnt see before the surgery. I pray that no one gets any problem in the eyes.

You reminded me of my own surgery. It's been almost a year since I had a retinal detachment in my left eye (it had a power of -8D). And guess what even i was initially misdiagnosed for dry eye and computer vision. But gradually things got worse i could see flashes at night and a curtain seemed to obstruct my peripheral vision. After a few days, when i visited the retina specialist he recommended immediate surgery (scleral buckling). Unfortunately the surgery didn't work and i ended up with retinal re detachment. Subsequently i underwent vitrectomy where they replaced vitreous with silicon oil. Finally after three procedures and a year long torment I feel I'm doing good now.. my vision is close to normal. Also, im glad you shared your story . It gives enormous confidence to people like me who were so scared in the early days. Atleast I'm not alone in this.. anyway stay blessed and happy..

I had a acute pvd beginning in April that within two weeks turned into a retina detachment of my left eye. I am 45 and have no family history of it. I had my first surgery 2 days after being diagnosed with the detachement and was so unprepared. I went 1 day prior to being a month out when it detached again. This time i knew the minute it happened and immediately called my surgeon. I got in the next day and had surgery again 5 days later. My first surgery was just a regular detachment surgery with gas bubble. My second detachment happpened because the scar tissue pulled away the retina. This time i had the buckle with oil put in. My surgeon said my retina was completely detaached this time, which is unusual and i had a lot more membranes than expected. So the second surgery was mich more involved and invasive . The first surgery i had to hold my head in a certain position for a while and couldnt lift or bend. Recovery was pretty easy and i just couldnt read for two weeks. This time its way more painful. Im 4 days out and not super thrilled. Im hoping all goes well this time.

I have a queation around the Scleral buckle. It's a silicone band wrapped around the middle of the eyeball around the scleral. The band is meant to apply pressure so the gas bubble pushes against it and holds the retina in place. My queastion is: Will the band squeeze to a maximum limit? Or over the years will the band narrow the eye even more year over year? If that's the case, you will need more preacriptions over the years. Can the band over time damage the eye? Or does thr band get taken out?

I’m a doctor who’s diagnosed retinal detachment in primary care. 2 months ago had sudden floaters and flashing lights. Went to opticians- dilated - told it was PVD. The black curtain symptoms were so insidious that 2 weeks later I went to the A&E where I examined eyes 20 yrs ago. Confirmed retinal detachment. Surgery done under LA. 2 months on. Still a residual shadow and I get a flashing ring in contrasting light. Tough to drive and there’s always a worry in my mind that it’s gonna tear as it’s not 100% 2 months on. I need a slit lamp and another me to check the eye

Thanks for sharing. That sounds intense

That’s not good dude. Has to be the most frustrating surgery to have done.
@PHDiaz-vv7yo Жыл бұрын
@@paulwoodford1984 oh, there’s more - attended the A+E in Nov and Dec 2022 - told it was healing - but in late January, shadowing worsened and then the vis distortion - macula off - so i had another vitrectomy and cryo and laser retinopexy with face down for a week. It’s now early April and I’m phasing in my return to work - thankfully the visual acuity can be corrected by a new lens - but the visual distortion of the hall of mirrors is present and I’m not certain if my brain can adjust to it - could take a year. While the cataract slowly forms - I’m sure there is another detachment coming my way - so thats two detachments in three months - but no oil bubble and no scleral buckle Best roll with these punches

How long did it take for your light flashes to go away? Cuz I just had my surgery a week ago and I still see them…. Gonna have my one week follow up tomorrow. But I had a similar thing, the first optometrist told me all good but I did not trust how quickly they judged that. Then I go somewhere else for a second opinion and they did all these scans that the other people never did and they said I needed surgery in my right eye asap.
@kaythecpa6 ай бұрын
I still have light flashes. This is "normal" and will not go away. My surgeries were in 2017 and the ophthalmologist and surgeon monitor it regularly
@UTUBE3JC6 ай бұрын
@@kaythecpa darn did they say why those don’t go away? That’s the main symptom that brought me in tbh was seeing flashes in my peripheral vision. Was hoping those would go away at some point 😕 No re detachment issues or anything? I am 27 fyi and got cryotherapy and scleral buckle surgery for my right eye my macula was always attached

@@UTUBE3JC They probably did tell me some time the past 7 years why they won't go away, but it's scientific and I don't retain that info unfortunately. I do tell myself I'm so lucky to have my vision and I'll take that, even with the floaters and light flashes. Best wishes on your recovery

Correction: my optometrist never dilated my pupils. Although she claims she did, which led me to thinking she did "dilate" it, but not "correctly"

Hello. I suffered a macula-off retinal detachment in my left eye about 5 weeks ago. I initially had a retinopexy, but then the doctor performed a full vitrectomy on me about 3 weeks ago. My concern is that my bad left eye now sees everything smaller (micropsia). Did you experience this phenomenon? Also, was your detachment macula-off? In addition, how long did it take for your vision to return to normal after the surgery and/or how close did it return to your original vision? I appreciate any insight you can give me and I also appreciate you sharing your experience.
@kaythecpa2 жыл бұрын
I did not experience that. It took a few months to a year to feel normal again

I have micropesia. My surgery for a detached retina was 20 days ago, I also had the silicon oil (or silicon based oil, I can never remember). If someone views a four foot tall object with their good eye, my repaired eye sees it as two feet tall. My vision is still distorted. It makes it difficult to see a pickleball coming so I swing and miss a lot lol. That's not going to keep me from playing.

Did you go back to the hack you saw for 13 years and tell her?? Did you get compensation for the surgeon scratching your cornea? I could imagine a board of inquiry over the negligence of the original so called Dr. She may have current or ongoing victims. That is a potential lawsuit or licence suspension or removal I would think.

I had retinal detachment on my left eye when I was 19. I had a major surgery on that eye. When I was preparing for my university entrance exam, same happened with my right eye although to much lesser extent due to regular checkups. As a Chinese I also visited Chinese M.D. who said that I had poor kidney and liver health and he prescribed herbs to help. I believe that both Chinese traditional doctors and Indian doctors believe that one will suffer if ones energy is out of balance. Yes sound like insane but you will be amazed when you witness they cure some cancer patients. Therefore I recommend you to visit one good Chinese or Indian traditional doctor for consultation .
