I definitely love the idea, of combining the net hammock, with a tarp rainfly overhead, and perhaps a mylar bed sheet, under layer, if not something like a bivvy bag with a sleeping system. But a survival blanket tarp, to sleep on, and a tarp or survival tarp to sleep under, Lifted off the ground in this subtle hammock. Love it.

As always… thought provoking… Hmmm when I think of a shelter…. I think of overhead cover… So I looked up the definition of shelter… It also includes protection from danger… I think this video is definitely fulfilling that definition.. being a typical female… I like the idea of being up off the bare ground 😊 … Being a child of God, I think of how God provides me shelter from harm… He does that in many different ways.. May God provide a shelter for all your viewers, and you , Andrew.. in these unsettled times… 🙏🏻💕

Shelter definition is a place to get away from weather or danger. If you need to get off the ground due to the sapping of body heat or bugs, snakes whatever it falls under shelter definition. Also remember your clothes are your first line shelter

Pretty lose definition of shelter if we're being honest. If I set up a store bought cot, which accomplishes the exact same thing as this improvised hammock, I doubt that if you asked 100 people if they'd call it a "shelter" that more than a small handful might say "yes."

@@utubesurfer71 I think your perspective is very narrow. I highly doubt anyone in unfavorable weather would just do a simple bushcraft hammock. Sir, T Y again, Skipper! I am thinking about saplings that I have encountered in the subarctic. Small willow and possibly poplar will supply supple saplings of some strength without too much seeping sap such as that always found in limbed living spruce saplings. I have been considering carrying 100 feet or more of paracord, & this video confirms the value. I like the parang, but usually carry a short bolo machete, a small kukri, a big bowie, an axe, or a hatchet. A poncho, an oil tarp, & a bug net add a lot to this sort of shelter. Anything to sleep off wet ground/permafrost. Likely you will be sleeping with firearm. You want to be prepared to present arms without falling out of bed!

Great video Ranger. Thank you. An idea, anyone who has time and spare 550, could create a cord hammock in advance. If you have the option to use a less stretchy cord in place of the vines, perhaps a humble polyester twine. Similar to nylon in many ways, except with minimal stretch. So it could make a decent frame for the net hammock. Roll it up inside a drum liner, to prevent any knotting/tangling... And you have a net hammock to add to your kit. Bonus points if you can bring a sturdy ridgeline for it.

Im thinking a tri leg a frame chair that you can lay back in, but not be completely supine so that you can still breathe. I seldom cut a grapevine and never one that large ! If I can carry that much paracord I can carry a pocket hammock. I always carry a pocket first aid kit in a fishing lure box . It holds several 4x4's and plenty of bandaids and medicine packets . With a pocket mirror for trash in the eyes it's small and very versatile. The pocket hammock can serve as a very nice chair also and goes up a a minute or less . With a Sawyer filter and a water bottle it's good for a long time stranded in the bush. Just a suggestion. Always good information here. Thanks.

Man, this rack is "tailor-made" for use in our tropical environment. A wipe of bug repellant or deploy that compact bug net (you did pack them, right?) and you are set! I have commented before about some of the critters you may encounter on the ground or in the air here in the tropics. Avoiding contact with skeeters that carry malaria or dengue fever is a must. Our Philippine cobra and especially the Samar cobra should be given due respect. They are more aggressive than other cobras and they are both of the spitting variety. I think we have a winner here. Up off the ground away from snakes, scorpions, and ants. With repellent, bug net, or smoke, you can get some rest in relative safety. Can't wait to cut some bamboo and practice this one with our young 'uns. Thank you for another great post.

I've been looking for a compact and affordable fishing kit thats more capable than some hooks and line when i found something called a yoyo reel or an automatic reel, any tips you could share on this? Do they work and are there better options for a kit for someone with little fishing skills? I found them on ebay, 3 for 20 bucks. Seems like a perfect kit item being compact and affordable but i'd like to find out what credible people like yourself think about them. Thanks again bro.

Andrew, the hammock doesn't work like this because the vines are pulled together in the middle due to the pull to their length, which causes the hammock to lose width. You will need at least one spacer in the middle between the two vines, but more spacers are better. If you want to demonstrate how something works, then please do it right. Thanks

I seen on your channel your highly experienced and decorated. So thanks for your service, I admire it and wish Myself I was able to do it. Any way I wanted the opinion of a professional and I hate these guys out here pretending to be and teaching others survival tactics. That is despicable to me to play with peoples possible life or death, now im trying to learn good n true tactics as much as possible. An I will continue to watch the Videos to learn as much as I can. So Also thanks for the content, but as a survival expert if you was putting your life on it then, what book of survival would you recommend? Or Books? To cover what’s needed not just to survive an say get rescued which is great to know but to thrive? To cover foraging, bushcraft, survival, shelter and ect. I plan on buying Some land and homesteading an want to prepare as much as possible before I transition. An honestly there are too many different books on this by authors that write articles for a Living and will say something works because someone else did. An I don’t have the money to spend on possible garbage and still feel unsure and unsafe. So again if you can respond and Recommend I greatly appreciate it. So which would you recommend and also is there any of those “pocket books” or manuals you would say is worth keeping with/On your person? Especially a foraging/edible plants one? Remembering all the plants, type, name, looks is always the hardest to me. Thank you for your time and for your services.
