I made a similar comment about his accent. As an actor the director kept asking him to up the intensity of the character… to show he had a real need to perform and be someone in front of the group. I think he really wants to be Nick’s friend but has no clue how to be friends other than play it tough and cool, and I think he resents Charlie’s entrance into the group and the fact that Nick takes to him so quickly and the fact that Charlie, this weird nerdy kid, has two friends who like him and protect him (Nick and Tao). So I think he has a need to insert himself between Charlie and Nick.

I read/ saw in an interview with Alice Oseman that the reason they switched Aled for Isaac in the show is that they wouldn't be able to do justice to Aled's whole story which is told in their book 'Radio Silence'. So to leave it open for future adaptations of their work they created Isaac instead.
