Alternate cleaning the flash arrestor screen, using hand held butane blow touch. Heat the screen till red hot, carbon will disintegrate. Job done in a few seconds. Hold the screen with long nose pliers.

I have an echo GT225 weedeater that dies when I throttle up. I checked the spark arrester and found no carbon buildup. I just replaced the carb, filter, and spark plug about 2 weeks ago. Ran fine 2x and now a day ago, it started doing thisl Not sure what else to check. I appreciate your help.

Here in the uk stihl tools dont appear to have an accessible spark arrestor so is there any solutions you could give for a 1 piece muffler. Also how about (if you can take the spark arrestor out) using a blowtorch to burn away the carbon?

@@EddieCarrara1 yes Eddie! My exhaust was a sealed unit. I sprayed ‘gunk’ engine degreaser into it then rinsed it out. Going like a bomb now! Thanks!

Criminy! This was my problem. I don't work on 2 cycle much and didn't even know this was a thing. I always assume it's gas or carburetor gunked up due to the the stinkin' alcohol. Spent a bunch of time looking down the throat when I should have been looking up the butt. Hope my doctor has better sense than me.

Hi Carl, I recommend you either replace or clean your spark plug because the engine was bogging the spark plug may be full of carbon at the tip. Let me know what you find, thanks.

Hi Willard, yes, that would also cause it to bog and sputter but as you can see the spark arrester is clogged and the exhaust can't flow freely. Thanks for tip, maybe other viewers may have their choke on.

@@EddieCarrara1 The problem with mine was if you take the silencer off there was carbon blocking the exhaust port on the head. Maybe it's worth checking that too two bolts and it's off. Thanks 🙂
