This video inspired me to build a new box, i was using one that i have since 1998 and it was past time to replace it with something more modern.... and oh boy it works, flawlessly with just one 8 inch tiny speaker it is much stronger and deeper bass than my old bandpass one with a 10 inch. Thanks for the inspiration, i watched this and the old video to get some construction ideas, read some calculations online, got to know some free online sub box design apps, made my idea and build it.... i am still impressed with the result for that tiny speaker, my god it works beatifully.... thanks again!

Did you remove the thick rubber speaker gasket for clearance issues? I prefer gasket tape as well, but noticed once you mounted the woofers the factory surround was missing. Figured you wanted the speaker not to protrude out any more than they have to.

Hi - Yes, I removed the rubber surroundings. The subs sat better in their recess that had the gasket tape I added. It only adds about 1/8" of clearance by removing the surroundings but they weren't needed anyway.

Thanks for the question. Most subs have their own recommended enclosure size/type (sealed or ported), as well as internal volume requirements. So no, you probably can't use this same enclosure for your subs.

much respect to you on T/ line 8" box, back in the day early 90s I built a T/line 8" with an AVI 8" sub for a customs 944. was doing ICE for 20 year since then and built about 500 different styles of boxes and even more systems too. to see a quilt box is soo cool thanks.

It all depends on what you're trying to achieve but typically less ohms means more power to subs.

@@FranksCaliWoodSpecialty Exactly. You can get more output. Being 2ohm and running them in series make them work a little fresh and putting both in parallel to make 2ohm make the amp send more power. That is how and why a normally chose dual voice coil to work in pairs. With 4ohm is just 2 options, 4ohms or 1ohm that could be too much.

@@FranksCaliWoodSpecialty 1. First, let me start off with the looks of your box is beautiful. 2. The reason why you don’t want speakers facing down, nor do you want them facing up is simply because the music is blocked. Yes, low frequencies can’t travel, but think of it from a basic commonsense standpoint. Take any speaker and play it facing you. It could be a simple Bluetooth speaker now take that speaker and face it down, covering it up watch the difference and sound. 3. Unless you have a seat lift you cannot put 10 inch subwoofers underneath the seat of a truck facing forward. It simply doesn’t work. I am a huge fan of 10 inch subwoofers. I truly think they have the greatest balance between low end and SQ I’m not all about SPL. I prefer more sound quality over anything But I will not lie. I like to turn it up, and when I do turn it up from time to time, I want my SPL to be clear as possibly could be. The best way to have this is by simply having the speakers facing forward . The music will appear much louder just for the fact that the Subwoofer is not being blocked. 4. Now, of course, with different subwoofer box programs, there’s different designs you can go with changing the ports facing in the different directions and so on but now since we have technology, it’s been around for sometime some very high inbox makers have pretty much approving the test, that the best SQNSPL applications, have the woofers facing forward, and the port on the opposite end of the box, facing the door. An example would be to subwoofers facing forward behind the driver seat with the port to the right side, facing the door This gives ample space for the speakers facing forward to play without being blocked, and the port has more than enough square inches of space between the door, and the port itself to allow itself to vent properly Now, thanks to other high end box makers, who is proven this theory, time, and time again the amount of air space that is required for 10 inch subwoofers, especially to simply cannot hold up most of the time unless you have a seat left like I said before. It would best serve you to have two high-end 8 inch subwoofers, regardless for SQ or SPL, facing forward on the driver side under the seat with the port, to the right side on the rear, facing the door Regardless of SQRSPL this will still allow you to add 15% more box, volume allowing for a greater SPL value which in return will require less amperage from your amplifier to push This will give a greater SQ and SPL overall making everybody happy I’m talking into my phone while driving so all the grammatical errors I’m sorry for

@@julesbruchez-theartofgrapp9646 Well, thank you for the compliment. I must say though, that an enclosure design is important to achieving the desired performance. You'll notice that for this enclosure, the two 8s are facing down with the ports facing forward. Both subs sit in their own compartment. Remember, a sub is meant to be felt, not heard. As you may know a sub output is multi directional and does not perform or act like a standard speaker. I played with a few designs before selecting the down facing subs option. One other reason is for speaker protection. I don't need to worry about someone accidentally kicking it and damaging it. Yes, you can always add grill, but I don't like that look. Also, this is a much cleaner look. But getting back to sound and perfomance of these speakers. These sound continue to perform nicely. The lows hit very sharply and fill the cab evenly. Although they are down facing, passengers who sit back there continue to comment that they significant vibrations from the subs when music/subs are turned up!

@@FranksCaliWoodSpecialty I am more SQ than SPL So that set up probably wouldn’t bother me. And absolutely the subs are protected. Plus, it just looks simply a lot cleaner and more professional. As a 45-year-old man I’m not big on the idea of people opening up my vehicle and see in Subwoofer’s poking out.

Have you tried the banana plug and binding posts connections on boxes before? I just tried it on a 2 12 box i built and man its solid as hell for sure without creating as much of a weak spot as the cups i noticed

why make a recess for the sub to sit in if there is no trim ring to have a finished look? at that point just screw the sub to the box. i kinda dont get it.

@@dnappi85 Thanks for your comment/ questions. By cutting out that groove, I get almost 1/2" of clearance in addition to the overall clearance underneath. Since this is a low profile box, I try to maximize clearance wherever possible. As for the screws (and the subs themselves), those will not be seen anyone. I do have an upcoming project where the subs will be front-facing and I'll be sure to pick out some nice hardware (screws and speaker grills).

I love your work very informative and of great quality. One thing I would recommend it might help with some sound quality as well I noticed on some skar subwoofer boxes they staple in some cotton batting like the stuff that's in pillows 😉 they sell it by the roll I believe 😉 idk just a thought. Yes, I know what you are referring to. I have some of that polyfill available but I decided not to add it. The bass is very clean and punchy. Adding the poly may improve the sounds, but only nominally. Maybe I'll try it on the next build. Thanks for your comments.

Regarding the polyfill query from above, the OP is on point with his suggestion. There's sometimes misconceptions that polyfill is added to improve sound quality, That maybe true, but only as an unintended yet welcome side effect. Polyfill slows down wave activity within the enclosure, causing the enclosure to behave (sound) like it's larger than it actually is. Useful cheap trick especially if you're confined to a smaller enclosure.

Thanks for your question. Measurements are accurate: 48" total width 42.5" face + 4" (2" per port) + 1.5" (left and right side pieces.

With 2 4 ohm DVC subwoofers the options are 4 ohm or 1 ohm final load. It is bullshit to suggest that someone wire then to 2 ohms.

Some better quality amps dont work below 4ohm. You build to your amp.
