Even though the sphere is hollow, it looks top heavy on that wire stand. I find the idea of a pair of hands gently grasping it seems appealing. As if still in the sculptor's embrace... Happy 2022, Year of the House!

The wire stand is a distraction to the beautiful work Mary put into her sphere let alone plain ugly.
@joh76362 жыл бұрын
I'd go with a museum/gallery type of aesthetic for Mary's sphere. The stand needs to be as unobtrusive as possible (ideally invisible!) to put full focus on the sphere. You could go with a clear acrylic holder, or paint the stand the same colour as the wall behind it in your new home. Is it destined for a niche of it's own there? I WILL stay tuned... I really love that sphere, Alex, I'm so glad it's the one piece you chose to keep!
@l.m.24042 жыл бұрын
Joh, I agree with you 100%. I would almost like the see it under a large cloche if it was in the open, on it's stand. It might when be an idea to talk with the company insuring it to see what they suggest. I love it, too.

I can't believe you didn't get that vase for Melissa! One more thing to move won't hurt, and she's working so hard getting ready for the move, she might have appreciated the thought...plus, it was a gorgeous vase, would have looked nice in one of your art niches catching the light.

Your thrift shops have a lot more to offer than the ones near me! That stand you bought for Mary's sphere looks to me like an accident waiting to happen. Just one bump and the whole thing will topple over possibly breaking the one thing you kept to remind you of Mary. If the stand has to be tall, find one that is more substantial in weight and wider so that it will show off Mary's artwork while still protecting it from falling over and breaking.

In my opinion, if you're looking for stuff for your own home, the best deals at a thrift shop are lamps. I thought I had it locked up at auction, but just before it came up, an older, obviously well off gentleman breathlessly stumbled in, and bid me up to all the money I had, period. A lousy $400. It was just the two of us bidding, in a group of maybe 100 people. He won, of course. I am a professional musician, and a dealer of instruments and such things. Good for him. It was listed at $25, and I prebid $105. A very rough period in my life. I'm sure he was a professor at The University of Texas, current or retired. Who knows, but he was the only other person who recognized what it was, all week, in a high traffic upscale store.

Hello Alex! 🎶😎 I really enjoyed thrifting w/you in a different setting for a change of pace! With all of the LIVE vlogs u do, this community is really becoming familiar w/each other and I enjoy reading their comments here as well as LIVE commentary. It's like a bunch of old friends sitting around talking! I like how everyone has a similar idea for the sphere. I have an idea that is a little different tho. I wonder if u would ever consider painting the sphere or would u like it to remain original? I like the idea of painting the black holder silver, as many have suggested. However, I think that if u turned it upside down, the ornamental design at the top would become the legs. I would either paint the entire holder white to draw contrast w/legs giving the appearance of height. Then u could paint the sphere itself any color, but thought a metallic iridescent or perhaps an opalescent color would be beautiful! And if u still wanted to give it a little more flair, how about setting the globe down inside, then putting a wreath of greens (like a X-Mas door wreath) or maybe greens w/small berries or some other small flower w/color mixed throughout the greenery? This would give it a totally new life. We all know art is subjective. However, it could represent the new beginning u and your family will begin in your new home, brought in part from the old gift u received from Mary's home, that was partially responsible for the reason u are now able to move forward in life on your new journey! I think it also makes a lovely story when u finally are able to bring both family/friends thru on a new house tour! 👍🏼 Just a thought. Thank u for your wonderful channel, amazingly interesting content, your special personality and good deeds u do for so many others.🙌 You have a beautiful family and u and your wife compliment each other so perfectly! May u and yours have a safe and HAPPY NEW YEAR! ✌🏼💖

Careful, a stand becomes part of sculpture and that wire stand clashes with the sculpture. A clear acrylic cylinder might work better. Or a clear cylinder shaped glass vase would be more consistent with the modern style. Measure the width of the sphere so you know the diameter of the vase that would work. Dollar Tree, Michael's, Joanne Fabrics,, and other craft stores sell glass cylinder vases.
