I’ve got the sidewinder too and I love it. I also got the wood burning inserts for it for flexibility.

I didn't get the wood burning setup. I'd like to test that out some day but I'm happy with the setup.

I like wrapping the foil around the outside of the pot. That makes good sense. That new system is pretty nifty. If I ever go the alcohol route I'll look into that one. I'm inpatient so I like the canister but if I ever do longer backpacking trips maybe the alcohol stove would be beneficial.

Yeah, the time is the biggest issue for most people. They just want it to boil some water as fast as possible. Can't blame yah after a long day of hiking.

Just watched this -- always been a late bloomer. You're going to really enjoy that Caldera Cone. Mine is a little taller, because as you point out, a taller pot requires a taller windscreen. But boy does it collect and focus all the available heat! (A 1/4 lb of hamburger cooked up faster than in a pan on my gas range.) You can roll those TD cones pretty tightly, secured by a ranger band, and come up with a way to keep the top corners from getting dinged up . . . or use the supplied plastic case and cram it with all the other little gizmos that wind up in baggies. I used an o-ring of suitable diameter to keep the fuel inside the bottle. But it's not like the 6 gallons I snagged for a ridiculously low price is going to run out anytime soon!

6 gallons? Wow. You'll be cooking for centuries with that lol

I like the clean burn of alcohol. I like the clean charcoal grill too. Charcoal is quite light for a weeks worth of hiking. You can always go dirty with wood on the tail and never run out of fuel.

I like to get a good clean burn too and keep the cup nice and clean on the outside.

@@AbundantAdventures does aluminium foil work?
@AbundantAdventures
@AbundantAdventures Жыл бұрын
@peetsnort I wouldn't bother. The alcohol stove burns very clean. If you use the camp fire then you could try covering the outside with aluminum foil.

Yeah, and like I said, there was nothing wrong with that setup and I could have fixed the fancy feast and or just used it as is. Hopefully my new setup will treat me just as good.

Hi, Nice vid ! Thanks for putting it up. I'll add a couple of things: 1st; the Toaks 700 pot now comes with marking for 16 oz and 500 mL's. 2nd; The titanium cone can be "snaped" together If you line up the inner and outer dovetail you can press on them and they will snap into place. You STILL have to slide them apart.

thanks for watching. Great update. I might have to get a new toaks at some point now that they have the markings.

Your fancy feast stove would also work with the Caldera Cone. So, the pot can have something to sit on.
@AbundantAdventures
@AbundantAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Yup, I didn't need to change the stove out. But I just wanted to try something else for fun. I don't necessarily need anything for the pot to sit on since the caldera holds up the cup on its own. I also wanted to see if I'd like the option to snuff out the fire if I have left over fuel. Still not convinced this really saves much fuel but I guess any savings is good. And then finally I liked the idea of knowing it will only fill up to 1 Oz so I won't need to measure out or guess for my fuel. Thanks for watching :)

Nice video! Someone else asked what I was thinking too: what about the coffee cup in the Kojin setup? Also, I have the fancy feast setup too and prefer to keep the alcohol bottle in the pot so any leaks are contained and don't spread onto gear I want to keep dry. It's just alcohol and the cook set won't be affected.

That's what I was doing as well until I switched to this setup. The alcohol storage would be preferred in there but it just doesn't fit and neither does the cup. To be honest, I'm almost considering switching back to my first setup but buying the windscreen for that size mug and storing that on the outside instead. Hope that makes sense haha If I do this, which I probably will, then I'll do a really fast update video.

Are you Gotta do is take a small sinner punch and give a light tap to each measurement line from the outside, so you can see the tiny indention on the inside
