Great video. Cool down it very important . I travel for work a lot and one way i break the drudgery is to insert a camp night or two in my travels . I bought a relatively large single burner on amazon and tried it out. It took a long time to cool . So much so it affected the morning routine. So i am going experiment with the alcohol stoves to see how i can simplify my coffee time . Just looking for a good cup . I have kick ass group cook gear a plenty . Just need to make a cup and get on the road . Cheers

I was considering getting a alcohol stove a while ago but haven't made the leap yet, but that's a good point you made about how it's a safer alternative during the drier months. Awesome video as always Sam 🙌🏻

the fancy feast wick burner uses more fuel than the others I made, it sure heats up whatever quickly if fuel is no problem I'd use it before other ones I have made.🤠

Cool design - I have been using my Firebox and trangia burner, but this is way lighter and smaller. Good to see that manufactures want to engage with you - a sign of a growing channel. Keep it up.

My preferred cook system is the box stove , but as you mentioned we need to be careful in the dry seasons and I'm conscious of the danger , so your soldering mat is exactly what I'm needing , great little addition to my cook set ,cheers . Thanks Andy! No I totally agree and I should have made it a bit more clear that one of the main reasons for not using the wood stove is in the summer I'm in a lot of places where there isn't any wood 😂. Yes not long now maybe a month or so and we'll be getting eaten alive 🪰

I built an alcohol stove with an old Daisy pellet can I had laying around in 2017ish. I used some welders' carbon felt instead of fiberglass to absorb the liquid, no spills, some screening from a tea leaf strainer to hold the felt in place. It holds 2 oz. or 60 ml of alcohol and with 1 oz of fuel will burn over 15 minutes. I use a Zen Camps wind screen/burner that works with alcohol or solid fuel and, though not designed that way, have used a small twig fire inside. I like things that can work with multiple options. At 76 years old, I like things that work well rather than being the lightest thing in the world. Function over form as it were. After that I built a number of different sizes but prefer my Daisy. If I really want to cook on alcohol I use trangia, or cat-can with simmer ring.😅

For fuel I carry a small 125ml round neck Nalgene bottle. Feels like it can’t leak and I can easily make several meals and drinks with it. Might be worth considering if you want to go even lighter.

Hi Mate, it's worth knowing that methylated spirits (USA= de-natured alcohol) can be extinguished with water, unlike petrol ( gasoline). This also makes it a safer option. Keep up the good work.

Hi pal! Very neat. Ive got my Speedster stove similar to this one and like it alot as well with my 600ml but I am getting 900ml pot to fit more stuff inside and my windshield etc as its 13cm and seems to be perfect for more water cooking if need. That 550ml Toaks seems awesome + your mat, I may get them in future so thanks for tip. And just had a look, Trangia sells 300ml fuel bottle as well so will go with this one for space saving and that should last me even for a week or walking of multi day camping. That's a cool light kit! I've tried the alcohol system with rockwool but it kinda burned the surface of the wool, which got ash white, and lost some of its performance after 3-4 times of usage... I've also noticed that my aluminium can got some rust near the edges. Have you had this happening to you too?

Cheers for the video big fella! You've got the ultralight and the standard in this... Now that you've had them both for some time what would you say is your preferred option. I'm leaning towards the standard on account of the greater flame surface area.

Hi Jonathan, yes I would go with the standard as it's just so light anyway there's barely any difference but like you say you get the bigger surface area 👍

When I tested both versions I found the ultralight version using considerably less fuel, while boiling the water almost at the same speed.

Hi Sam, late to the channel but really interested in the subjects you’ve raised. I found the Knoydart video especially interesting as I will be there in a couple of weeks. What’s the difference in the std and lightweight x-boil burners, other than size? Would you recommend one over the other?

Hi Peter, thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the trip to Knoydart! The difference really is minimal, you are talking 5 grams weight difference between the two, they are pretty much the same!

As you say it burns hot, but using the top to extinguish the flame could melt the sealing ring. Try just blowing it out, WAIT for it to completely cool before screwing on the lid. Thanks for sharing. I shall look up X boil. Take care

No it's not the same as a Trangia burner there is no rubber seal on it. There's no need as the liquid is absorbed by the carbon felt. No need to let it cool or try and blow it out either, easily extinguished by popping the lid back on and cools down in seconds anyway 👍

You could also use the toaks pot to extinguish the flame rather than the burners lid.

It is not light weight if you carry the Tangria bottle with you. I take only a pvc bottel with 50 or 100 ml with me. Mabye 2 if you go for a longer trip. And your cup also is‘t light weight. So, why do you use titanium? 😊😊
