Ed thank you for transporting me back in time. My Grandparents born from 1870-1899. I am only 62, but my parents born in 1923 and 1927. Dad and Uncle served in US Army during WWII. My only Brother 14 years older than me served in US AirForce Vietnam War enlisted in 1967, died of cancer 1969. They are all gone now and I miss them dearly and I love to see people from the good old days you are such a blessing to me. 🥹🇺🇸👍

Ed is a GYM. At 77 when I watch his videos memories come flooding back you see I was the greasy dirt ball that my uncles sent into the junkyard to pull parts off for customers now I look back and cherish those memories all of them are gone now but I wouldn’t take a million $ for the good or the bad. From a guy n Ga. the state not the country

I have a solution for this but it lacks any ability to tune it. Gm made the 5 pin hei ignition module (one pin is the ground, 4 get wires) around 1973 or 1974 and this made its way into many car even in europe but... When computer controls were introduced they also made a 7 pin and an 8 pin version of the hei. The 7 pin module goes into a large cap distributor like the 5 pin but has an external loop to send a triger signal to the pcm and the ability to receive a trigger signal from the PCM. But like the 5 pin it can be installed externally onto a heatsink the way the 5 pin was installed in european cars. The 8 pin was isntalled in a small cap distributor however its connectors are directly exposed externally so the cap has to have a provision for the 8 pin module. This can also be installed remotely but need weatherpac connectors. (Metripack 150.2 2 way and metripack 150.2 4 way for those interested) how this relates is that the 8 pin distributor is used without computer controls on boats. It has a startup mode that also acts as a limp mode where initial advance is reduced during cranking to speed up cranking and avoid complexities of software in the pcm trying to calculate timing in a jerky startup. The car starts on the module without pcm influence then engages a pin to turn the external loop on. The module acts as its own dwell control and its own rpm advance. You could measure the cap diameter and see if its close to the flathead distributor to see if you can retrofit the gm small cap to the ford distributor. Then with a little milling install the 8 pin hei module, the points can triger the module or you can press a reluctor over the points cam possibly with a little lathe work and drill the distributor for an hei pickup which ive done to random distributors in the past, i had hei on a forklift made in the 60's but its been so long i can't remember if i used a fiat pickup or if i cut pieces away from a v8 pickup to make it accomodate a 4-cyl distributor, i think i used a magnetti marelli module from the fiat so the dwell worked properly but it was obviously paterned after the hei module. If things arent that close you can install the module externally, possibly upsidedown under the distributor and if you don't want to work with weatherpack connectors i believe the 7 pin module also has this built in rpm curve but because of the large spade connectors and the pins all connected internally it won't fit inside a small cap distributor. You could also modify the small cap 8pin hei distributor like ed is saying to just fit the flathead engine (chinese ones can be as cheap as $45 with cap but the cap may be thin and delicate). This way its not seseptable to rust, bounce or broken springs like a mechanical system can be.
