Kenny Wallace has stated on his dirt track cars. He doesn't want the most horsepower. Instead, what he desired was a quicker suspension set up. In others words. If a car can't get all that power to the ground in a practical sense. It's not going to win. The late Scott Bloonquist more than likely didn't have the most horsepower in his cars. He had the the best suspension setup.

Many years ago when I was a kid, very broke $ and still learning, I reused the old converter in my freshly rebuilt Turbo 400, even though I drained and filled the converter with new fluid all the grit and trash still inside immediately destroyed the TH400. Yikes! 😂

A girl I knew in high school drove one of those wagons, I can remember a bunch of us riding with the rear window down sitting on the edge of the tailgate and throwing eggs at passing cars an other kids at school. It was all good till we accidentally blasted her dad who happened to be following behind us one day in an unknown car. I don't remember ever driving herself to school again after that.

The casting is cleaned and checked out, most of the other small parts are replaced, including seals and gaskets, but also filters other things. If you want to be funny about it, you could say the casting has been used as opposed to freshly created… If you’re making a point about the torque converter, you could put a used torque converter in if you could get it apart and clean everything and reseal everything there properly. In some cases that’s possible, and most cases it’s not done.

Mom bought a '73 yellow LTD Country Squire wagon with the wood grain sides and a 400 v8 brand new. The next year in '74 we took it from Boston to Prince Edward Island in Canada. Went camping in it until '79 when I got MY driver's license. So many memories in that car. Now its gone and so is Mom...😢😊

All flat tappets do that. The 239 lifters would mushroom out at the bottom when the engine runs too hot for too long. The cheap adjustable lifters were prone to do that within 1000 miles of use. I used those in my 1950 Ford F-1 to save a few bucks when rebuilding the engine in 1976. Drove it from Chicago to Texas in 1977 loaded down and pulling a U-Haul trailer. Cruised at 60 mph until the engine began acting up outside West Memphis, Arkansas. I removed the inspection plates to find 2 cylinders had their mushroomed lifters jammed inside their bores so weren't operating with the rest slightly mushroomed so werent fully opening the valves. I took the advice of an old black man working an auto parts counter not to try readjusting the valve lash to restore the lifters' height and drove it the rest of the way with the spark plugs out of the dead cylinders doing 40-45 mph on the interstate. Had a CB radio in the truck so got to hear all of the truckers cursing me when I wasn't driving in the emergency lane. I ended up buying a new NOS cam and adjustable lifters from Job Lot Ford in Queens Village, NYC. I left the valves alone since none were damaged when inspected.

I don’t understand how simply removing the ignition from one bank of cylinders also removes the intake vacuum. There appears to be a mechanism in the cutaway drawing and in the cam valley for changing the valve actuation. Possibly this was how a cylinders were shutdown. No?
@BarryTsGarageКүн бұрын
OK, I’m not sure. I got a complete understanding of it. Myself, my visit was short. I’ll take a stab at it though. Perhaps the ignition firing with the fast escape, velocity out the exhaust with pull the fresh air fuel mixture in to whichever side was firing it doesn’t sound good today because I think most of us would worry about gas washing the cylinder walls and so on…

After you poured it you would use a scraper to shave it down to the right size. also one reason you didnt want to overheat your motor or you might melt the bearings out of it.
