What I listened to this week - Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention - Am Yisrael Chai, the new album by UNIT - Below The Salt by Steeleye Span - and Three Friends by Gentle Giant. Those 4 albums kept me amused and mentally engaged while I recovered from being made redundant from my job. I've booked a flight to Vietnam where I shall spend the next 3 weeks so you'll not hear from me until July, probably.

I was just thinking of those Light Switch moments..you know that split second when your musical journey just clicked into place. With me it was probably Cream Sunshine of your love is that 1967 or 68? Maybe Hey Joe, but I think it was Cream..Then I heard a single called Who Do You Love by Juicy Lucy, a proper WOW moment for me I have loved Wah wah ever since, of course We Used to Know By Tull became my favourite track by them and Prog wise it just has to be 21st Century Schizoid Man track 1 on the Island Sampler Nice Enough to Eat. Still one of my favourites

Great picks with I Robot and Equinoxe! I Robot is my favorite Alan Parsons Project album and Jarre(along with Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk) is definitely one of the most important pioneers of electronic music. I haven't spun anything yet today but yesterday I was in the mood for some serious metal and hard rock so I listened to some of my favorite tunes from Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Sweet, AC/DC and a more obscure band called Sorcery etc.

Hi Spinnin' Proggers👋🏻 I enjoy these types of videos as you get to introduce some pretty eclectic albums that rarely get a mention. I like what I've heard by Can but have never seriously dived into their discography. I really need to check them out🤔. I've been 'revising' for the forthcoming Nick Mason gig by playing the live at the Roundhouse blu-ray. Couldn't resist watching Floyd in Pompeii and listening to Animals too. Hand Cannot Erase by Steven Wilson, Sehnsucht by Rammstein, and Bellum II by Aquilus have also been dusted off and blasted out over the past few days. Saw Gary Numan live last night. Absolutely fantastic. Those synths sounded massive and the lightshow was outstanding. I'd never consider Numan's music as progressive but I would argue that he has been influential in rock's evolution. While many 80s bands played plinky plonky synth melodies to produce nursery rhyme level pop music, Gary Numan produced an introspective, darker mixture of guitar driven rock and synths that somehow felt futuristic. Back in my schooldays we would stumble into class on Friday morning and discuss Thursday evening's Top Of The Pops. For sixteen year old me, Gary Numan performing Are Friends Electric was a 'did you see that guy last night' moment. I'd heard of cyborgs and androids but there on TOTP appeared to be an actual cyborg performing music from the future. 45 years later I finally got to see him live. I hope Nick Mason's mob are half as good next week🤞🏻

This week Bowie’s Diamond dogs has been getting a good listening, as has the Magnetic Fields 69 Love Songs, the Cocteau Twins EPs and DAF’s Product der Deutsch Amerikanischen freundschaft, lots of instrumental cacophony, industrial banging and clattering but strangely very moreish. Keep up the good work. Andy

No kidding, Wind and Wuthering has been a perennial favorite of mine too, since hearing it at age 20. God why can't you get stuff like that in the cut-out bins anymore? I find it's for the darkly romantic moods, whereas the Lamb is more my speed for Saturday afternoon relaxation. (The Lamia - what a sweet tune that is! the 2nd disc is so chill and awesome.) And to think I didn't even get the depth of the Wuthering Heights connection until my 58th year of life, when I finally did read that novel. Holy sh*t. No wonder In That Quiet Earth / Unquiet Slumbers are so damn haunting

Great... I read the novel in school and when I was in my early 20s, I went to visit where the Bronte's lived in Yorkshire. There's a graveyard beside the parsonage they lived in and trees with the wind moving through them. That piece of music actually sounds like it. I think Interview is a late masterpiece of prog. It shows a movement from the bombast of the early 70s to something more trimmed down without losing its substance. 👍

What a fun video again with Tara once more nailing Genesis post Gabriel but still with the great Steve Hackett. I loved the Barclay James Harvest mention (one of my favourite bands as a youngster) but would like to put in a word for Everyone Is Everybody Else and Octoberon, two great albums that I still listen to that seem to have been overlooked by many. Finally, following your Horslips comments, I was so pleased to see you had listened to Procol Harum as the late great Gary Brooker went to my old school and I will forever be proud of all that he and the boys put out for the world to listen to and enjoy. Thanks again for the great content and please keep doing what you’re doing as I for one enjoy every second of it. ❤
