Thanks very much for this video. I Have been Battling RTP Midi for years to get my Xtouch controller plus 2 extenders to work over network to use in protools. When you have 2 devices connected by USB, protools drops communication to the extender. I Have had to revert to reaper which sees the 3 controllers without a problem. I will now go and spend the night reconfiguring rtpmidi and the controllers.

Hi Bradley, Let me know if you get it running! I hate that pro tools still functions like this with controllers. But of course avid wants you to use their much more expensive surfaces so I suspect they’ll never adjust this functionality. Thanks for watching and happy mixing!

Glad this was useful to you. This is such a bothersome quirk with pro tools and matching controllers. Thanks for watching and happy mixing!

hi QuickEZ - Can you kindly advise? My goal is to have the XTouch control both the X32 mixer and my Windows DAW Cakewalk. I have just one XTouch in XCtl mode connecting to my x32 for X-Touch over LAN/Ethernet, controlling the board's mixing parameters, so that half works fine.. I do have rtpMIDI installed on my PC. What mode should Xtouch be in - perhaps XCtlHUI ? And do I enter the explicit IP of the XTouch into rtpMIDI Directory so that it can establish a session ? The rtpMIDI session is enabled in Cakewalk for MIDI input. Any advice greatly appreciated !

Hi Freddie, You need to be in XCTL/MC mode And you need two connections to make this work and you do not need to use RTP midi. You cannot do both controls with a single network connection. The X32 requires the XCTL mode for communication, and Cakewalk requires MC (mackie control) mode for communication Here is how I have tested my setup; - I have my Xtouch connected to my network - I have the Xtouch set to DHCP (you can use a static address if you want to, and know how to set that up) - I have the Xtouch network set to Slave IP. And here I have the IP address of my mixer set. Meaning that the Xtouch will be a slave to the mixer at the address listed. Then I also have my Xtouch connected to my DAW PC via USB. Your Xtouch should show up in Cakewalk via USB as a control surface. When I hit the SMPTE / BEATS button on the right side of the surface, to the right side of the main LCD screen, that switches between controlling my mixer and controlling my DAW. SMPTE is for the mixer BEATS is for the DAW. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Thanks for watching and happy mixing!
