@QuickEZ 5 күн бұрын
Hi Marcus, I'm sorry you're having issues. If you followed the tutorial step-by-step you should be good to go. That being said, Please check that your bit-depth and sample rate in your Logic session are matching with your mixer settings. Also, I've encountered a few people who had to do the following: Open your system settings on your Mac click on PRIVACY & SECURITY click on MICROHPONE make sure that Logic has been granted access to use your microphone. The UI24 becomes a "microphone" when connected to your system so if Logic doesn't have access, it could potentially stop you from getting signal. Let me know if this solved your issue. If it doesn't, please try another USB cable. This is often the problem. There is no guarantee this is your problem but it is a common one. If you can try another available cable before buying a new one, I recommend that before spending money.

In addition to your true statement, there’s no MacOS update for firmware 1.20 either on the Midas support page. After days of searching I found a forum explaining how renaming the.exe extension to .update resolves the issue.

Ahhhh gotcha. This is actually an issue that is common with some other equipment. Specifically the Blackmagic ATEM mini ISO line of video switchers. They have a very specific requirement for write speed and cache especially when maxing out the record capabilities. And they have a list of specific drives that will work for their ISO line. People are constantly picking up drives that appear to meet that write-speed requirement, but in actuality, the drives are too slow when maxing out the channels and are not on the approved list. It's a question EVERY.SINGLE.DAY in the ATEM forums. Lots of folks are using SSD drives instead of thumb drives with the UI24, connecting them with a powered usb-hub and having very good success that way. I believe the Samsung T7's are a common SSD for this purpose, but don't quote me on that yet. I'd have to dive back into some forum conversations to guarantee thats what folks have been using. Let me know if you're interested in going that route and I'll see what I can find for you.
@JoeBaermann

@@QuickEZ I was actually thinking to use an SSD, since I know they are fast enough for much more than those few tracks, I’m pretty much on pair in which disks and casing (controller) to use, thanks though. Read/Write on my USB sticks should do, they don’t go much faster, but I kinda suspected that USB sticks might run into issues, the work for 20 tracks at 16bit though. Btw. you can use all available space supported by FAT32, but I guess you already know. I used Rufus to quickly format my sticks.

Hi 88, Are you connecting to pro tools? I believe that DAW has a limit of 4 controllers. Other DAWs I’m not sure of their limits. There may not be any. Also, if you are using multiple extenders or multiple universals, with pro tools then you should watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iom0e3luiseif7Msi=r6VzuuOyRS4ewHW0 Pro tools will NOT recognize multiples of the same controller. Are the aux outputs mono? Is is possible to output stereo to a headphone amp for IEMs?
@QuickEZ
@QuickEZ 11 күн бұрын
Hi Kenneth, Yes you can do that. If you look in your patching screen under HW OUTS and you will see: H1 L H1 R H2 L H2 R just patch your signal to whichever headphone outputs you want. You can send you virtual auxes 9/10 to a headphone output if you’ve used up your other auxes already. Thanks for watching and happy mixing!
@Pyuras
@Pyuras 7 күн бұрын
Most outputs in mixers in general are mono, unless otherwise noted (like phone outputs). If you want stereo output from auxes to a (separate) headphone amp, you'll need to use two auxes and stereo link them in the sofware so they output a stereo signal (one aux is L and the other is R). The stereo link step is really important, otherwise you'll just get dual mono from those auxes. To link auxes in stereo on the Ui24R you hold click on the aux output name in the mix or aux sends view and select "stereo link". Note that you can only link odd (L) + even (R) outputs. i.e.: aux 1 + aux 2, aux 3 + aux 4, aux 5 + aux 6, etc. You can't link aux 2 + aux 3 in stereo, for example.

@QuickEZ
@QuickEZ 12 күн бұрын
Hi, It depends what you're trying to do. If all you want is a copy of your full "LIVE" mix, then you just need to record the main L/R into your daw. This will already have any FX you are using, in the mix. Your main L/R shows up on the first two USB sends by default, so you just have to set your DAW to record inputs 1 and 2. If you want independent channel and FX you can do a couple of workarounds. 1. send all your independent channels to your DAW and then send a copy of ONLY your FX to two of your Auxes. for example Aux 7 and Aux 8. Each Aux shows up automatically in your USB sends on channels 3 through 10 and you just need to tell your DAW to record whichever channel you want. This gives you all your instruments and your FX to mix together in your DAW. This is not a perfect method as you may have more than 1 FX mixed together on those auxes if you only have 1 or 2 auxes free. However, if you have additional auxes available, then you could send a single FX on each available Aux so you have control. For example: FX 1 goes to Aux 5 FX 2 goes to Aux 6 FX 3 goes to Aux 7 FX4 goes to Aux 8 2. Send all your independent channels to your DAW and then record a copy of your full L/R mix to your DAW as well. Again, this is not a perfect solution but it would give you your full "Live now" mix AND your independent channels. I hope this helps. thanks for watching and happy mixing!

Hello have a question about the aux, is there possible an equalization to be applied different from the main out?let me be more specific for example my vocal on the main it's going to speakers on salon,but the aux will be send to a online live, and the equalization it's different on a salon because the speakers,I understand you can apply a "master" equalization on aux,but need to equalizer one specific channel,thanks.
@QuickEZ
@QuickEZ 23 күн бұрын
Hi Nicolas, The short answer is “no”. The long answer; If you happen to have an empty channel that you are not using. Duplicate the input for the channel you specifically want to EQ differently, and make whatever EQ changes you want. Then, send that new duplicate channel to your Aux and not to the master. This way you now have two copies of the same input channel with completely different equalization, going to your two different locations. For example: Main vocal, let’s pretend you have it plugged into input 1. Let’s pretend that input 20 has nothing plugged in. Edit the input patching of channel 20 and set it to input 1. You now have a duplicate of your main vocal. EQ channel 20 differently from channel 1, and send it pre-fader to your aux. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and happy mixing!

Hi, great video thank you. I've owned my 24r for about year and a half, no problems. Have installed a good quality computer fan to keep it running as cool as possible in Australian (Sydney) hot times. The only "issues" I encountered are when my tablet (android) goes to sleep, waking it up it takes a bit of time for all the controls to start responding, maybe about 10 to15 seconds. Never lost sound nor had any lockups where I had to reset the unit. The other annoying quirk is that I have a bad habit of hitting a back button on my tablet which takes me right out of the normal mix page and it takes some time to reload. Again, no loss of sound though, I figure it's an "Old dog, new trick syndrome" as this is my first digital mixer. I do use it with an external router to ensure good and reliable communication via my tablet. There is one thing that annoys me about it the most as I am a retired audio electronics tech and have found after obtaining a service manual for it that NONE of the XLR outlets are actually balanced. This I was upset over this more than anything else when I consider the cost of the item here in Aus.
@QuickEZ
@QuickEZ 25 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing, It's good to have some additional voices here sharing a positive experience. I didn't talk about external wifi in this video, which I probably should have at least touched on, but I've talked aobut it so much in other videos it just didnt' occur to me while I was rambling on in this one. I NEVER use the internal wifi for show/event operation, and thats not isolated to this rack mixer...thats my stand on any rack mixer with built-in wifi. The event in this video, I only used the internal wifi to do a quick walk-test in the venue before anyone ever entered the building, and thats 5g, not the 2.4 connection. Once the event starts, I can't be seen on the floor anyway, so wireless communication just isn't required. If it was, I would have an external system on hand, no exception. Not an "old dog" problem at all. Yesterday while I was going my walk test, I kept nudging faders with my thumb. That is a downside of tablet operation. If you don't have a case that gives you a proper handle, it's incredibly easy to make inadvertent adjustments or, like you, hit the back button. The lack of "actually balanced" XLR outs is a shame. When companies make choices like this, I can only assume it's a cost saving measure, but that makes no sense to me. Especially when you compare the cost of this particular device to similar mixers. How much cost saving could you actually have with this choice. I just shake my head and proclaim "capitalism..." Thanks for watching!

I used to have two of these mixers, I'm down to 1, and soon zero (Allen and Heath, all the way). Not only are these units unreliable, but are inconsistantly not reliable in mission critical situations. Connection issues, even directly with HDMI and USB, shouldn't be an issue. Losing control of your IO during an event shouldn't happen...period. Love the functions and usability, but need hard faders and total control with what I do now. I hear all the engineers that made the UI series don't event work for Harmon anymore. Ouch. That's my $.02.

If a client is paying for seamless operation, and you can't provide it with this gear, then absolutely you should be moving towards something else. Allen & Heath do make great gear. Do you have a specific console you've had excellent experiences with? I spent years utilizing the iLive series as monitor consoles. They were workhorses! Truthfully, I didn't love the workflow, but they functioned well, sounded great, and kept on going in punishing outdoor conditions. I also had my hands on the CQ-18 right when they were released. Sadly I didn't have the time to make a video about them at the time and I'm kicking myself for that now. They had a lot of "Great" packed into a really small footprint. Thanks for watching!

Hi! Is it the same process for logic pro?
@QuickEZ
@QuickEZ 27 күн бұрын
It’s actually easier with Logic. Use the same steps to set the xtouch mode. But use MC mode instead of HUI. When it’s in MC mode, Logic will detect the xtouch on its own and give you default controls automatically. You only need to go into your settings and adjust things if you want to map controls differently from the default. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

When I found this video I thought I was finally going to get this to work for me. I've spent an entire day and a half trying to figure this out. I started in a different DAW and switched to Pro Tools thinking it might work better. I'm sure this is 10 times easier for someone more experienced and knowledgeable, but I only know what I know. So frustrating! I'm on a Mac and I tried to follow your instructions to a 'T'. But when I got to the part where you are changing the individual channel inputs and outputs (at 16:10), when I click on the input or output button I'm seeing something completely different in my dropdown menus, not what you are seeing in your demonstration. What you describe doing is very clear and straightforward, but my ProTools is somehow not showing the inputs and outputs your Pro Tools is showing. So I'm stuck, again, for the umpteenth time. For now, I'm mostly interested in using this to output tracks from Pro Tools to my MR18 (same as the XR18). In the output dropdown my Pro Tools is only giving me a few options all related to my MacBook Air Speakers. I did all the other settings you specified previous to that step in the video. What a pain!

I just bought a brand new XR18 and it has V1 hardware. Should it have been V2 since it's new? What's even the difference?
@QuickEZ
@QuickEZ Ай бұрын
Hi, V2 is only for mixers that were manufactured during chip shortages that occurred due to COVID supply chain issues and used a different chipset that the original. I believe this chipset change affected the FPGA's used for DSP and nothing else. If you happened to purchase a mixer that was manufactured prior to this, then it would of course have the V1 hardware. But this should not cause you any issues, I have an XR that is V1 and it's still going strong. Your mixer should function without issue being V1.

I can’t follow that at all. We have 3 places to change effect, LR, Sends, and Fader. Literally, no other effects unit has this. Tell us what to do so that it operates like a reverb guitar pedal.
@QuickEZ
@QuickEZ Ай бұрын
Hi David, I'll tell you exactly what to do further down. But read the beginning to help you understand why things are different than you are expecting. The reason FX units or FX pedals don't have this many ways to do things, is because they are not mixers. They are simple machines. plug in a guitar, turn up the reverb, and away you go. On a mixer, you are "mixing" together input signals to make an overall balanced blend of your instruments for an audience to listen to. This includes the effects. And on a mixer with built-in FX, you need to send a signal to the FX unit (like when you plug your guitar into a pedal)...and THEN bring that newly altered signal from the FX unit BACK to the mixers surface so you can blend it in with the rest of your mix. It's more complicated because there is more going on than just plugging in 1 instrument. It's like when you have knob on your reverb pedal that is called Mix, or Wet, or something similar. When you turn that knob up, you get more of the effect and less of the original guitar sound. When you turn it down, you get more of the original and less of the effect. Having an effect return channel on a mixer is doing the same thing that the knob on the pedal is doing. To get what you're looking for, do the following. - Plug your guitar into input 1. - on the sidebar at the right, select the FX unit you are using for your reverb, 1, 2, 3, or 4 you'll see the master fader for that FX pop up in place of your main LR fader. - Bring that FX master up to a reasonable level. Then, raise the fader for channel 1 to a reasonable level. You have now sent signal from the input to the FX unit. The next step is to introduce your effect to your overall mix. - Select your "MAIN LR" button at the right side bar. - then raise the channel 1 fader to a reasonable level. Now you should be hearing your original guitar sound with no effect. NOW, the last set of faders on your mixer are labelled FX 1, FX 2, FX 3, FX4. - slowly raise the fader that corresponds to the FX unit you are using, 1, 2, 3, or 4. Now you should hear your effect starting to show up in your mix. put that at the level that feels comfortable for you. Thats it. You're done. the other ways of doing this, you can ignore for now. Get your head around this method. Hope this helps.

Are you saying that you're connected, and you can control the mix with your Xtouch but the window isn't changing along with what you're doing on the Xtouch? Or are you not able to control your mix with the Xtouch? Did you download and open the pre-configured X-touch configuration file? Do you have the X-touch set to the right mode (MC mode)? Did you change the size of the Xair Edit window or move something else in front of the window? Without more information I can't help.

This is very strange. Xair edit does not sync with the xtouch on its own. That is the whole point of using osimidi. I’d love to see a short video of this working. Question once I recorded into logic and I try to bounce the tracks out for some reason I’m not getting any audio. How do I get audio on my bounced tracks?
@QuickEZ
@QuickEZ Ай бұрын
Hi Paul, Nothing changes with how you bounce your tracks, you do that the way you always have. You need to make sure that your Mac audio output is set to use the XR18 as your sound output device. Go into: system settings > Sound > click on the output tab > and set the device to be your mixer. You will likely have multiple sets of outputs showing XR18 1-2 XR18 3-4 XR18 5-6 XR18 7-8 And so on, you get the idea... just choose the channel set you want to use, and then in the mixer software you can turn USB returns "on" in the channel tab. Once you've done this, the mixer takes over the duties of playing back your audio for all of your apps, not just Logic, through that USB send. Hope that helps. If you're still confused, just let me know and I'll try to clear things up for you. Thanks for watching and happy mixing!

Great video! How do I send IEM monitors what the house mix is? Do I just keep the sends post fader?
@QuickEZ
@QuickEZ Ай бұрын
Thank you Johnny! If you make the IEM sends post fader then any change you make to the level of an instrument in the main mix will change that level in your IEM mix. Generally that isn’t something people want. So just be aware of that. If you want to duplicate the mix in your IEM’s you can open your I/O window and then you can assign each bus to copy eother the Left or Right side of the main L/R output. For instance; - bus 1 (aux1) assign to main out Left -bus 2 (aux2) assign to main out Right - bus 3 (aux 3)assign to main out Left - bus 4 (aux4) assign to main out Right And so on. You can also choose pre or post fader when you do this. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and happy mixing!

@@QuickEZ Thank you for your reply! This is great insight I will subscribe to your channel as well. One more question. So I get the importance now of pre fader and post fader ... If I copy the main mix L/R to my aux send will I get the same mix as front of house gets? This is more referring to FXs. Im trying to get the same mix as front of house with the FX giving the vocalist the opportunity to get more "into it."

Great content on this channel, thanks for sharing. I have a question, How would you convert an aux output from the physical mono balanced aux output to a stereo input on a headphone splitter ( namely Behringer Powerplay Pro HD4600 ) The aux input on the 4600 is a stereo TRS jack. I was planning to send a stereo mix of the band to both of my HD4600s and use the auxes as a 'more me' send. There are 7 in the band so unable to send a separate stereo mix to each member... Thanks
@QuickEZ
@QuickEZ Ай бұрын
Hi mincento, thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately, you can’t make a single aux output into a stereo output. It just doesn’t work that way. All you can do is have the mono signal show up in both sides of a stereo destination. But your power play should have a mono button that would do the same thing from a single input. Or if you’re using these for in-ears, some IEM systems have the same ability in the pack, switching it to mono dumps the single input to both ears. On the flip side… You can turn the headphones jacks into additional aux outputs in the patching page. You can assign virtual aux 9 and 10 (which both have a left and right side to them) to the two headphone outputs which are also TRS so that’s two stereo outs right there. I realize that doesn’t quite solve your issue since you’d still be short on outputs, but you could potentially get 6 stereo mixes that way. If that just doesn’t cut it. I would suggest having some of your band mates share a stereo mix. Find out who can live with the same set of instruments in their mix and then try to hit the right number of stereo sends that way. It won’t be perfect, but when you have to work inside the limitations of your hardware, your band needs to work with you. I hope I’ve understood your question correctly. Thanks for watching and happy mixing!
