A 2-year-old girl is dead after being left in a hot car in her family's own driveway. A volunteer firefighter who lives across the street tried desperately to save the child's life by performing CPR. Despite her heroic efforts, the little girl could not be revived. Published reports identified the grieving mom as 38-year-old Beatriz LeChard. Police say her baby daughter was inside this gray Honda Civic for about seven hours.

@@jlouis5217 It's not accurate to say she's not remorseful. It happened in 2008 for her; it's about 15 years ago now. Do you expect her to break down every time she talks about it? She probably cried enough tears already. All she can do is try to inform others of how to avoid her mistake. There's all types of advocates out there who warn others about mistakes they did. Just because they all don't cry while just sharing the facts doesn't mean it doesn't hurt them. Have some empathy.

I think the way it usually occurs is when the parent is heading to work and usually goes to daycare, but forgets and goes straight to work with the kid in their car. At least with the legitimate cases. I've never come close to doing this, but I could see how someone gets in their routine. Most daycares have apps now which I check my kids' pretty obsessively, so I would notice if my husband or I forgot.

no matter what anybody says here about these parents, it will be nowhere near as bad as how they berate themselves for this. At least you'd hope.

Miscommunication in this case was deadly. They failed this poor baby girl. I don't see how they could ever forgive themselves or each other for this mistake. Heart. Breaking.

The mom wasn’t even there. Megan, the woman who tried to save the toddler, confirmed the mom had left for work that morning and the baby was left with her partner. Megan also confirmed she didn’t even know until she arrived home and was told by paramedics.

@@mndlgh those were articles that have since been updated. As of now, there’s only one which doesn’t specifically state that she wasn’t home during the discovery. However, it doesn’t say she was the one who left her in the car.

It's just sad that so many children have been affected by this absent-mindedness that people fall victim to. Everyone loses in this situation.

I don’t understand how the mother and father didn’t notice that the child was missing after 10 minutes. Two year olds need a diaper change every two hours, they eat every 2 - 4 hours they want a parents attention every 10 minutes. Two year old do not play independently for long periods of time. So how did these parents not know that the child was missing for 7 hours? Unless they use drugs and fell asleep with the child inside of the car. That is the only explanation and or it was done on purpose.

As a new mom with a super stressful job I created a new routine to check my car. I look at the passenger, open the back seat and even the trunk. I do this when I arrive at work, arriving at my house or any places. It helps me and when I go places with my baby, I talked to her, I sing to her and I put my baby toys on the passenger side. Everything to keep my baby safe.

Switch up the routine or order of your checklist. It is the falling into a fixed set of routine ...that muscle memory kicks in and as a new mom with a stressful job, sleep depravation is a thing. A baby can be a good sleeper up till 18 mths and then statt to develop sleep regression periodically. Hang in there! 😉
