Well i used to like chemistry alot (and i still do) and entered ChemE thinking it is the same and it isn't undortunately. This led me to struggle abit especially that I am not perfect at maths and physics. I am now a 3rd year student and am satisfied with all decisions i made

@@mustafazaidan4938 really? ;-; iam freshman 2 and the physics iam taking is discouraging me from pursing this career. i adore chemistry too and i can understand math but i have love-hate relationship with physics. will i really be redeemed in my 3rd year after going through all this suffering? please tell me more about you

@@aylora7033 First, congrats on getting accepted. Let me say it this way. The idea that I might not like ChE chased me since day 1 in uni. I was always afraid about it. I don't like physics and maths, and Year 1 General physics, Calculus and all those maths courses were a pain in the ass tbh. I struggled with them alot, and had to repeat some. However, when I continued and started taking courses related to my department such as Process calculations and thermodynamics, i started liking them. Those courses were fun. They were hard too, but enjoyable. At least they were related to the department i am in. They had integrated physics and maths. The physics and maths in it are still difficult true, but they are enjoyable and thats why I am now satisfied with the place and career i chose for myself :) I hope you all the best

@@mustafazaidan4938 iam really touched by words because your feelings are so relatable to mine but your courage to continue is what I lack and it is very inspiring. I was almost at the end of my rope and about to withdraw from this semester and not come back at all. Thought to myself this is way too complicated and I don't see the worth in suffering to this extent. Slowly felt my passion is drifting away but iam trying not to over-analyze and imagine stuff just because iam scared of that stupid physics course iam taking. Your determination has really revived some of the passion and trying to give myself one more chance to see things clearly again. I hope to get to the day when you finally thought "this is what I have been killing myself for" :'') Thank you again and hope you the best and good luck.

I graduated last year with 2.8… the courses I had during my bachelor degree were a lot and hard at the same time, but I love Chemical engineering. Now I’m doing my master degree and my research area is on new energy and new material, I’m actually working on electrocatalysts… Personally for me doing master looks much more easier than doing bachelor because we have less classes and I’m done with all of the, now I’m averaging a 3.15 GPA. The stress part is as a chemical engineer you always have to work in the lab so I had to manage lab and classes at the same time. I love what I do and I also want to contribute as much as I can in my research area

I am now doing my master in ChemE and data science because the industry is slowing going there, so I suggest also looking into that and taking some CS classes if you can. If you can start looking into your interest and figure it out, please do because you will realize how broad chemE is and it can be difficult to find a job if you don’t know your interest at all. But stay in there it gets harder as you go, but it is worthy.

Class of 2020 ChemE grad here. I get it, ChemE is a hard major. In fact, every time I felt overwhelmed, I would remind myself that many people would have been ChemEs if it was an easy major. I convinced myself that it being hard is what makes it special. It tests your drive and how much you are willing to push yourself. And trust me, you will thank yourself later on if you stick to it to the end. Now, as for doing well on the classes, I can assure you that every ChemE has struggled at some point. Go to TA and professor office hours. After all, they are the ones who make the exams and they truly do want to help you. Some of them are assholes but take that as an opportunity to learn how to work with assholes. Make friends in your ChemE class, this might be the best thing you can do. Truly help them out when they need it and they will probably return the favor. Study hard and smart. Ask yourself, are you really studying or are you checking your phone, talking to friends, scrolling through social media etc? The first few classes are partially designed to weed you out. Prove them wrong. It gets better after that. Get a good sleep. You might be thinking that you don’t get good sleep because you have so much to do but it could easily be the other way around. Feel free to reach out if I can help in any way. I will be happy to do so.

Oh wow, no partial credit in mass balance? that’s horrible. I’m currently in my 3rd year. As far as i’m concerned, thermodynamics 1&2 are no doubt the hardest classes you will take (heard some rumors about PChem being hard too). It is as if every professor that teaches thermo is unable to translate and help students understand it, or doesn’t even do much examples either. Fluids is rough too but not as bad as thermo. As far as my grades I tend to make mostly A’s and a couple B’s, but i got a C in my intro to ChemE class, A in mass transfer, and then both D’s in thermo 1 and fluids. I take roughly 30 credits each academic year. ONE BIG tip I can give is make sure you have a uniform notation guide that you follow and utilize among all your courses because different subjects/courses may use different symbols for the same thing or it might have a slightly different definition that could screw you over. OH, and knowing how to manipulate those differential equations really helps in understanding material in more complex Chemical Engineering courses and where equations are derived from. Unfortunately, I still struggle with manipulating and deriving expressions from differential equations but it’s definitely a slow buildup to understanding it more.

Bro in my first Materials and Energy balances class my final was worth 45% of my grade and it was basically a make or break situation for me and I ended up getting like a 67%. But the freakin' class average for the final was a 52% and most of the students like me were failing the class so our teacher was gracious and curved our final grades. I walked away with a B-. Then for the second class, COVID hit and everything went online. After that the class was easy to cheese haha! However, I still ended up failing my materials science class with a D so yeah. I'm having a really difficult time in my Calc I class. Everything is online and most of the lectures are not during class times, they're recordings of lessons by the professor that we are to watch on our own time. I already have one W on my record for a Pre-Calc class in spring 2020 but I retook the course in summer and passed with a B. Its difficult studying online because my living situation doesn't allow me to focus properly when studying/learning. Would dropping with a W from the course this semester and retaking it in winter or spring be better, than getting a C or D this semester? I'm sure I failed my first test so I say C or D because I'm struggling with my situation and balancing school and work during this pandemic . I'm a chemE major as well and transitioned to online learning mid semester in spring for the first time ever. Bottom line is that I've found online class settings to be more difficult than traditional classes, for myself at least P.s : I've done the little genEd classes I need and only require core classes now
@AlsworthTV
@AlsworthTV 4 жыл бұрын
Classes like that make it so hard to focus, I can relate to you! Before thinking about dropping the class, I would look at your school’s policy on Withdrawing to see if there’s a limit on how many times you can do that. I don’t think you should give up yet though, it’s still possible that you can salvage at least a B. Search up “Professor Leonard Calc 1 playlist” on KZbin, his videos really helped me out a lot with Calc I. It could be, that your current teacher might not best fit your learning style .
