I just want to say that I work with rare manuscripts at Oxford in the UK, and we have stopped wearing gloves for quite a while in archives on paper items. Clean hands are actually overall less damaging to materials than the rough latex of a glove which also reduces your ability to sense how you are handling the materials.

I know someone whose job is to take care of and restore very old books and manuscripts at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. He always works without gloves because they very quickly damage the fibers of the paper. In addition, valuable cards should always be sheltered from light and too low or too high humidity.

@@danm2084 If you're referring to swearing, that is in reference to cursing. And while it is a sign of ignorance and lack of intelligence to produce a more suitable word from one's vocabulary, an educated and versed follower fucking knows the shit they can and can't do. Or in this case say. Also, there is no "bad place". That's quite a false presumption from spoon feeding media. The Lake of Fire was prepared for Satan and his Angels/Followers (the Fallen). Or also in a parabolic sense, those of wicked intent and messengers of said evil. (Raping/sacrificing children, etc.) Innate objective reality of what's right and wrong is within us, we all have felt guilt of stealing in our youth, or when we lie/betray someone etc. (The law is written on our hearts) Hence why one's who never have heard scripture are not doomed to this unfair "bad place". lol...Cringe. Jeremiah 17:10, Rev 2:23 (But this is just me quoting verses of a thing you find to be complete bull shit.) I was an atheist before. All this circle jerking fairy tale none sense. So I feel ya. Have a blessed one brother, you and your loved ones, as well as your enemies. Disclaimer: I know this is out of no where, and your comment was 2 years old. Also going to respond before it comes up that the point I made would render Jesus moot, his sacrifice, and the idiocy of that whole idea etc. etc. And that's that as we all bitch and complain as to what to do and how to do it, Jesus was the measurement/cane/canon by which humanity can measure the Creator's intent by. *I* also know all this is just BS...lol...anyway, God bless you. But your level of knowledge in theology is rather poor.

The card game in 16:20 is called Shadowrun. The original Shadowrun is a pen and paper RPG. Played the RPG twice in 97-98 or something, cool lore. A sci-fi cyberpunk setting with fantasy races. Rolled an orc that was supposed to be proficient with a shotgun. But the lack of agility made him miserable. Could not hit for shit. Edit: Now that I have read the comments, I see people figured this out months ago.

The saddest thing is that wizards have never made anything near the quality of the non-sports chase cards that Fleer, Topps and Upper Deck made. In 2017 customers are complaining about a foiling process that even at its best pales in comparison to printing that was done in the 90s.

Great collection for sure. I'm still honestly so surprised at Vesuvan Doppelganger's constant price. I was using them in my decks back in 94 and they were $20 (I'm talking the revised version) They are still the same price today as they were when I started the game. Iconic rare in 3rd edition for the playability and one of the best MTG artworks of all time. HOW have they not kept up with the pace of many other great reserved list rare cards blows my mind. I hold onto my collection of them and that is where they will stay.

Amazing! And Guardians brings back memories, I had a bunch of those cards including the Babes ones you have. Pretty sure I bought it at some TRU CCG blowout sale. I had so many old TCGs and early MTG cards I sold for $30 for my whole collection (including alpha/beta, tons of revised) and it ended up costing like $20 to ship so I made like $10 on the whole thing... please shoot my 13 year old me when you’re back in time picking up all those alpha boxes Rudy. Also reminds me of my friend who had a sealed box of alpha starters. Sold the whole box for $20K several years ago. Fools, all of us!!

Those cards, they made me happy and twisted my gut at the same time. So many gorgeous cards, so many I used to own... so many that got stolen. It was end of middle school when it came out, I was not exactly concerned about my cards safety. Shivan/Nightmare/Royal Assassin, Serra all were the chase cards, so since I did not have them starting out, decks were stolen, binders were stolen... ugh. On a different note, I have old Shadowfist, On the Edge, Wyvren (?), Magi-Nation, Marvel: Overpower, and probably a dozen other card games I can send you some of, oh, and original L5R cards, another hand drawn artgasm, I actually have a painting on my wall of one of their promo posters... which apparently has no images online, since I need to get it re-framed I will see if the shop can do a scan or something... Come to think of it I have a few sketch outlines and limited edition prints.... maybe I should have spent more money on Magic =_=

My cuz trades his alpha set back in high school 97-01 in Tempe az. He sold because it was only extreme nerds who played. He traded a shoe box full of cards several cards had a value of 70$ and up at the time. The cards were purchased during 6th grade and was fairly popular at the time. The cards were traded for aquarium stuff lol. 20 years later we are buying storage units searching for good items. For fun we appraised a few cards he remembered and he’s kicking his ass cuz it’s around several grand for a couple cards. Oh well. I’d be good if none of our toys were donated. I had unopened dune toys including the worms which are several thousand each .

Seeing this makes me so sad and also can confirm Rudy's comment at the beginning about how we didn't know. I remember when I started playing in 1995, I got a starter deck and some booster packs and started playing at lunch in jr. high and back then we actually did trade cards so I had some revised and unlimited, but I also had a few Alpha and Beta cards like Mana Vault. I didn't have a massive collection, I was only 13 so it wasn't like I was buying boxes, but I was able to convince my mom to occasionally get me a booster pack or 2, and I remember when Ice Age came out getting a starter box of that and a few boosters. But the only card anyone cared about or knew was going to have value was the Black Lotus, even in 1996 everyone kind of knew that card would be worth money, but everything else was basically just whatever, even some of the power 9 at the time were still being played, no sleeves or card protectors, on a dirty lunch table, being roughly shuffled and tapped over crumbs and spilled soda. So no one knew what was going to happen, for all we knew Magic could die out and all this stuff is basically worthless, plus who in their right mind would spend more than $10 on a card. This is what we thought back then, there was no way we could imagine what some of the card values would become. So here is my story of how I sold my collection when I was 16 and have been regretting it pretty much ever since. So 3 years go by, from when I started playing, it is now 1998, I'm in high school, haven't touched my cards in like a year, none of my friends are really playing anymore. We are all at the age where you get a license and a job and try to escape the "horrible stresses" of high school because what little did we know about real life. So one day I pull out my box, look through them, think to myself I could get $$ for these, there were probably 400-500 cards and a hundred basic common lands, not all great, some are very roughly played, and I have only one friend offer to buy them out of the like 30 I ask. He knows the value of the cards I have (at the time) and says he will give me $40 and a ride home from school for the rest of the school year (about 4 months). The biggest value card in the collection at the time was a 4th edition?? Colossus of Sardina (not sure it was 4th, just remember it had a white border) which was selling at the time for about $7 because for some reason a 9/9 for 9 that doesn't untap unless you pay 9 again was a good card?!? So I sold them, but on the condition that I could buy them back if I wanted to start playing again for the $40 and he could keep the Colossus since it didn't really work in any deck I had tried to build around it. He agreed and the deal was done. Fast forward another 3 years, I start thinking about Magic again, I'm out of high school, and at a party a friend tells me that my friend who purchased my cards died the other day in a car crash. First I was upset that he was gone because he was a really great guy who was super friendly with everyone and everyone loved him, but then it also hits me that he still had my cards and a whole lot more worth a bunch of money. So I try to get ahold of his brother to see if he would be willing to find my cards and go through his brothers collection and if he would possibly sell them to me, or at least let me buy back mine. It might not have been the best timing because he hung up on me, basically ignored me during the funeral and then a few weeks after told someone that I was a total dick for even bringing it up (which I will admit I was). So I never got my cards back, and my friends collection, which had black lotuses and moxs and a bunch of, what is now, high value cards is somewhere in the ether.

Rudy, It must have been around 1996 that a friend of mine who lived down the street introduced me to Magic. I was 10 years old and I remember running over to his house after we got off the bus so that we could play Magic at his house before his Mom came home and discovered I was there. His parents were really uptight, but I remember how going over there and being excited and pressed for time, all made it strangely exhilarating and fun. I didn't really know how what I was doing, so when we played he went about teaching me how to play in a way that still made it a lot of fun. He had given me a starter deck, and while I never fully learned how to play, I remember fondly those days over there. I can still remember how his house smelled, and even how I felt back then, and how exciting it really was. Anyways, I remember my first game ever. I ended up winning the game after using the Tsunami card. For that reason it's always been my favorite card, and practically the only one I even remember. I gave my cousin the cards later in life, something I have come to regret doing. I haven't played Magic since then, but your channel has rekindled a new interest in the game, and the cards. I plan to get into it at some point when I have the money to spare, and a little more free time. It's so cool seeing that Alpha Tsunami card in this collection. That card contains many great memories that I will never forget. Thanks for making content that appeals to those who don't even play the game. The art from those days is indeed simply amazing. Seeing the Magic collections and products is so intoxicating to me, I don't exactly know how to describe it. Anyways I just wanted to share this story. I hope to be able to get back into it, and I look forward to seeing your content and passion in the future.

Soon as he turned the card around at 16:16, I knew exactly what they were: Shadowrun Can't believe I forgot there was ever a CG of it, holy crap. But that logo is unmistakable.

ShadowRun was the card game you didn't know. Also... I was drooling a little at those Alpha Sol Rings..

No Rudy! There's PLENTY of Alpha in the world. Problem is, most of it locked up in your vaults..lol If some of those aren't 10 grade, then NO CARD should be. STUNNING STUNNING set. Your camera is fine, just the sheer awesome of what's on that table, would even make Hollywood cameras go out of focus.

uh just by looking at some of those cards, I remember them from when I collected cards in the 90's. Let alone knew these are actually worth anything today!

The first "other" card game you showed is based on a Pen and Paper Game System called Shadowrun. It's cyberpunk in a dystopian future. There are new versions until today of the pnp and there are multiple video games based on it.

Hi people, can someone link me to information on binder dings, how they happen and how to prevent them.

BeautifulMadeline binder dings. The rings of the binder have the potential to bend cards that are directly next to them. Usually if the binder is closed quickly and a page folds in on itself or whatever. Ringless binders are my personal favorite prevention. I.e. monster binders. Snug card fit with no metal near my valuables

Unknown cards at the end is "Shadowrun" it was a pretty good game and only uses D6. Normally a tabletop RPG but they did try a TCG at some point.

Oh man, those first couple cards after the magic collection. Shadowrun was such an awesome card game. So while some of you with your Alpha/Beta sets are lording it over me I'll keep my sealed Shadowrun Limited and Underworld sealed booster boxes! It'll come back some time.....right?

So Rudy, when are you going to open the Magic the Gathering Museum of Floppy Tacos? If these cards are being taken off the market, might as well let those who love them get a chance to see and appreciate them.

Where could you buy these cards back in the 90's? I was a sports card collector back then and I don't remember seeing Magic cards for sale anywhere, even at the card shops that existed on just about every corner in the mid 90's. Maybe I missed them cause I just wasn't looking for them. I had Ken Griffey Jr. on the brain. DAMN YOU, KEN GRIFFEY JR.!!
