l had a 78 Bonneville 750 twin in the 1980s ! Wish l had kept it now !! Exactly the same spec as the one ridden by Richard Gere in " An Officer and a Gentleman " . An US export model ( but not exported !) .lt had a bad chain leak on the R/hand side chain cover ( The casting was very poor in the factory ). !! Most nut and bolts needed tightening up again after a good run and the oil in frame tank needed topping up . Bastard to kick start !! The kick starting lever shot back and whacked me in the back of the leg more than once ! Hard ! Otherwise a nice bike with a sweet exhaust sound ! A head turner !

Bonneville in standard trim from that period will lift its front end as easy as anything at slow speeds. In fact, if you’re not used to a Bonneville, it’s hard to keep it down.

This is the 5th T140 I’ve owned and trust me it’s about twice as fast as a stock bike.

@@MasonGeorgeMotorcycles in the 1980s, I had one of mine rebuilt by a chap that had the motorcycle English land speed record by putting two triumphs engines together. I remember when I was 18, letting one of my friends drive mine at that point, hed never driven anything more than a 50 mL mopeds -he set off and open the throttle, and the front end came up with me on the back-he then panicked, and shut it off, completely to discover. We were almost stationary and promptly, panicked again, and did the exact same. The front end went up again meanwhile, I’m shouting, just pull the clutch in and stop

This bike will suffer a lot in the wet without a front splash Guard / Fender !
