Repeat, repeat, and so on. -Knights do have their armor. But armor has a HUGE disadvantage. Weight. Armor weighed so much and it tired several Knights out. Meaning they're much, MUCH more vulnerable. -And simply, Knights fighting techniques aren't as combat prepared as a Spartan's. I mean literally Spartans have been training combat nearly since they could first walk. One thing I will give you is a Spartan's vulnerability due to the lack of actual armor. If they slip up for a second (unlikely), they could easily get killed. I mean we literally will never know. Like, literally. But, my opinion.

You have to know your opponents, the Spartans wore bronze armor but had iron weapons. They fought shield to shield in formation, the 8ft hopelite spears could easily push chain mail rings apart and pierce thin armor with a hard thrust. The enemy of the armored knight was a pike/spearman, their armor is designed to protect against the more common slashing weapons of the time and not a Greek phalanx. Saying that, a phalanx without support should be easily flanked and broken up by mounted knights. the battle was never fair because the mounted knights advantage of mobility was not on display, while the hoplite's strength of frontal assault and formation was. Until the age of gun powder, a Greek phalanx or Roman legion would've been an effective fighting force under the right leadership

I do not know anything about the options the simulator has (so i will probably buy it because its so damn cool), so my questions may be very easy to answer but does the simulator allow for real strategy? just lining people up to hack at each other or shoot at each other is fine. However, battles are always won by strategy, not just brute force. Pinpointing where the weakness in the enemy is, defending from an elevated terrine to leverage ballistic weapons, fatigue, etc. If you have 100 guys with machine guns, fine, but they will run out of ammo. Or if you have equal amounts of Spartans and knights, how fast are the knights? Can you add Heavy Calvary? They were usually the difference maker in most medieval battles because they could flank and attack the weaker parts of an army's lines and cause chaos. Most important, is keeping the army in a coherent group. Once you see the people around you get chopped up, it was common for army's to break ranks and run. That is usually were the battles were won because you can pick them off when they scatter. You wouldn't just line up and hack. You would stagger your armies into groups and put the quickest units on the edges. This simulation is great but it doesn't take into account real battlefield elements or strategies that generals would take to try and out maneuver, surround, and destroy the moral of the enemy. real world it would turn out different

Knights would have an advantage over Spartans; Spartans would need to be precise with their spears; aiming for the various joint areas where there is minimal armor. Knights however could go shield to shield and similar to a roman legionnaire, attack with a sword overhead and stab it into either shoulder and into vital organs. And no, even with full plate+chainmail+gambeson the knight is still agile. And, Do you think soft bronze armor could easily penetrate steel armor? No, they'll break easier than the steel counterparts. Spartan phalanxes are too rigid, this is the characteristic of early phalanxes, this compared to the more mobile and more flexible knight formations will make the lighter more mobile Spartan with rigid formation a moving block than can be easily flanked from sides.

@@apomtaylor8054 im 19 yo and my job is to research about my ancient people,Greeks.When Romans invaded Greece the Greeks were weak because they had civil wars(Peloponnesian war etc) and Persians helped with that.Then Alexander the Great took the cities peacefully and united.After Alexanders death the huge Empire was cut in four pieces where the generals had and of course they had civil wars again(and the people's revolution in the far East where Greeks had to cross a lot of land to stop them).Basically the Empire fell not from enemies,but from ourselves like always.Then Romans came who just walked in the cities with no battles. Generally speaking,if Spartans where still freed until knight's era,they would evolve too with better armor and tactics.If Greece was freed forever the world would be thousands of years abroad.

I know the greeks were weak from the persian invasion aswell as the peloponnesian war (soz if I mispelt it). But the greeks were almost always fighting with each other, but this is about the spartans not the other greek cities. At the time rome invaded your greece the spartans and sparta were already out of the picture (can’t remember the battle, but I do know the spartans lost due to a bad military call). Romans didn’t just “walk” into your guys cities, they crushed the macedonians because the phalanx was ineffective against them (as they had great movement, meanwhile the phalanx was just a defense position.

There are a lot of wrong in here : 1. Steel vs bronze (or iron), the steel will prevail, it's also lighter. 2. Knight is using gambeson as the base, then chainmail, then full plate armor, there's no way those 2 m spear with regular tip is able to pierce through plate armor, or even if it is, the chainmail have a really tight gaps it won't go through that deep and lastly there's gambeson to stop it. 3. The knight didn't use their shield properly. 4. The Spartan is too lighty armed, they barely have any armor, no soft body armor (leather), no chainmail, and their shield isn't that big like the Romans that cover their entire body, the knight won't even need their longsword for that, heck they won't even need to strike their weak spots like joints or the gap between armor. 5. Both sides have no archers, and even if both of them did, the knight crossbowmen will eat the Spartan regular Bowman (they didn't use longbow). Then again, the Spartan Bowman won't inflict that big of a damage to a full plate+chainmail+gambeson armor the knight have. 6. The knight is more educated, in a sense that they have read and applied different tactics throughout history, including the Romans, Persian, Swiss, brigands, mongols, as well as the Spartan themselves. By using this knowledge, they should've been able to read their opponent, even if the battle constantly changing, it'll give them so many advantages early on. 7. No cavalry is involved in this battle. 8. Sparta undying spirit is useless the same way the japanese did at WW2, sure it'll be troublesome, but as the history already been written, technological advantage will balance out, and even make spirit meaningless. And this is a 1000 years or more gap in technology, it's not like the WW2 decades gap of technology. As you can see, there's so many wrong in these simulations. Sure it was a game, but with it's more realistic mechanics the Spartan should've been lost. This isn't AOE where units gets buffed from the home city, as well as multiplier against certain units, then there's the upgrade of units like veteran, epic, or such things and lastly unit won't be healed after sometime as long as they stay there for a while. So no, this is pure bullshit, I won't accept the ridiculous result.

I'm still siding with the Spartans due to formation and pride for their brother to the left. But I do agree with everything else mainly. Most games have a lot wrong with both sides: -Knight''s don't have any Calvary being used whatsoever. -Like you said, no archers on either side. Even though Spartans had more of "Spear-archers". -The knights are trained and raised to be more strategic on the battlefield. So standing there whacking every 2 seconds isn't going to do much. -Sparta's spirit does come into an effect a little more than you might think. Mainly for courage to continue on and never give up. I do stand with one thing, the one thing that FUCKING PISSES ME OFF IS HOW THEY GOT THE FORMATIONS WRONG. SPARTAN'S DO NOT SIMPLY RUN LIKE THAT, THEY ARE IN A FORMATION THEN BRANCH OFF ONCE MOST VULNERABLE. LIKE BRUH- Sorry, I lost my temper. But uh, yea. IF this was more realistic and the Spartans actually had their armor, the Spartan's would've been close to winning or won.

For everyone saying “ iT IsN’t AbOuT tHe GeAr ItS aLl AbOuT hOw SpArTaNs ArE mOrE eLiTe ThAn KnIgHtS” think of this, if I was wearing a bullet proof vest I could take more bullets then someone not wearing one so think of the Spartans bronze chest plate as a shirt and the iron FULL body armour that left almost nothing exposed as a bullet proof vest and the bronze spears that Spartans carried as a low caliber bullet and an iron 2 handed long sword as a 50 cal. A 50 cal will blow someone torso open but a low caliber bullet vs a bullet proof vest will only dent the thing and maybe leave a bruise on the wearer.

Here's what you got to understand. Knight's are a bunch of young gentlemen who were trained to be polite and only fight when called for. Given extremely heavy armor and a sword (YES, there was training during childhood). Meanwhile Spartans trained everyday, since birth to do one thing. Kill with no mercy. Meaning they're strategic. Light weight armor makes it easier to swing and slash. But they can be a little too over rated. People still try to argue that Spartans could win against Navy Seals. Hey, most certainly in hand to hand combat. But regular combat? HELL no.
