Hector was considered a quarter god, blessed by Poseidon. Hence his moniker of "Tamer of Storms", Hector supposedly always had good sailing weather. If a ship killer storm was approaching it would miraculously dissipate before it reached his ship. On land he also always seemed to have good weather for his combat on land, it would never rain and ruin the terrain on the eve of combat. By comparison, Achilles was a half god. Born to be the penultimate warrior. He was never blessed with good weather, or even great arms/armor (look up the start of his career, he had absolute CRAP). However, he was gifted with several lives worth of combat experience upon the completion of his first kill. Total control over his body and the ability to push beyond human limits of exertion. It also didn't matter what weapon you handed him, he would fight like a complete master with it immediately. Hector never stood a chance in a duel. Or even squad on squad, after all, being trained by someone with all that experience increases the effectiveness of the trainees. Hector, however, had a better grasp of true army on army combat by virtue that he could get that many men to follow him! Achilles didn't trust people, only his squad mates. Due to that, while other soldiers/Greeks idolized him, they were also afraid of him and would not immediately follow his orders. It also doesn't help that the Greeks themselves weren't truly unified, while Hector's military force was completely unified.

Midas T. Golden achilles was a demigod, hector was human
@Nempo134 жыл бұрын
@@mynameisgarnette5087 Incorrect, Hector was blessed by Poseidon and was considered a quarter god. Better at leading armies than Achilles. However Achilles is the penultimate warrior, NO ONE was his equal in a duel. And no one would claim to be able to beat a squad v squad fight against him either because he trained his men himself. Achilles was blessed (cursed) with several lifetimes worth of combat experience, experience he distilled and trained into his squad. No one else was an equal to him and his men. Once you get beyond squad fighting however...Achilles didn't trust other people, and he did not have true charisma like Hector and thus could never get an army to follow him.
@deandraalexis4 жыл бұрын
Midas T. Golden I'd say this is thenone Achilles fight they tried to actually even out. Hector broke his spear shortly after his was broken, and there were moments where Hector scratched his armor and almost stabbed him. Achilles woulda fell any other man the way he did Boagrius in clip 1. That's why Achilles tells Priam Hector was the best he ever fought after all
@deandraalexis4 жыл бұрын
Kâ Lys I think you got the idiot wrong. 1. Achilles was the son of the goddess Thetis, with his father Peleus being a human man. Hence Demi-god "half God" 2. Thetis dunked Achilles in the River Styx to make him immortal but was holding him by the heel so that part became the only vulnerable part of his body 2. As seen in the movie, Achilles clearly could only be killed by the wound to the ankle since at the end when he got arrows all in his core, he could pull them out with ease but the one in his heel remained when he did. Briseis was in shock by this as Achilles did not even seem fased by being shot in the core arrow after arrow. 4. Even the boy who picks up Achilles to bring him to this war says, "They say your mother is an immortal Goddess. They say you can't be killed!" Achilles doesn't tell him obviously but we see the truth in the end. Yes, Wolfgang and the others working on the film did make this movie much more about the humans and removed the involvment of the Gods that you read about in the Iliad, and I personally really like how they made it mainly based on the people and they made it relatable with the Sons of Troy questioning the so called "omens" from the Gods, same with how we may question the religion our parents gave us. But these hints of Achilles being half God as he 100% is are there in the movie too and there's no way you can ignore them

The Hektor vs Achilles fight was very well done. Each part of it was showing you something specific about the two men but particularly Hektor.and how he contrasts with Paris. You see from the start just by the way they both move that they are similar to each other and different to everyone else. This is reinforced when you see Hektor successfully defend against Achilles' leaping thrust to the neck that Boagrius and others were killed by. Then you have them both showing great technical skills with shield and spear ending with both fighters breaking the others spear to set up the remainder of the fight with swords. But while they are in a league of their own and fairly evenly matched, Achilles has the edge. Hektor seems a little more tired, his technique is a little more ragged and he doesn't have the anger driving him on that Achilles does. This continues for the sword section of the fight - both fighting brilliantly but Hektor gradually becoming more tired. Nevertheless he is able to cut Achilles breast plate, to Achilles surprise, thus getting closer than anyone else to killing him. But this was Hekor's last big chance. After this he's seriously tired but though he trips on a rock and is wounded by Achilles (in the same way as Paris was against Menelaus) unlike Paris he carried on fighting through the pain. He eventually succumbs to Achilles but never loses his honor throughout the fight and at the point of death. Were the ancient Greeks and Trojans able to see this fight I think they would take the meaning (or at least one of them) to be that as a man, you can be noble, brave and skilled .... above all others even - but if the gods are against you and fate is against you then you are doomed. Hektor was as good as it was possible for a mortal man to be in terms of his character and his skills. Achilles was less noble in character but he was part god through his mother. it gave him the edge over Hektor and fate had already determined that Achilles was going to achieve great glory at Troy. So Hektor's end was inevitable. In short - mortal man cannot overcome the will of the gods.

thats a real battle between two hoplites, start and figth whit spears until was broken... But, why leave the shields
@TheSmithDorian10 жыл бұрын
Aegon Targaryen The kind of shields that we see in the video were designed to be used in formed lines to provide a kind of wall that the fighters could stay behind under arrow fire and spear attack. You can see that the bottom edge of the shields line up with the top of the leg armor You would need them in single combat with spears because it's very difficult to parry a spear thrust with another spear. But if it came down to swords the weight of the shield would tend to throw you off balance, as well as tire you out and restrict your mobility. But the main technical problem was that when you block a strike aimed at upper chest, neck or head height by raising your shield you basically lose your view of your opponent. Better to ditch them and rely on speed and defensive sword technique.

To tell you the truth,hector's conditioning sucked compared to that of achilles'es,and even though hector was finest among the trojans or eunans,no body took fighting as seriously as achilles did,hector was a king(the would be king) and he never had to care about taking on entire troop at once,he sure could but he also would have taken a shitload of damage,achilles on the other hand was no king or stuff,the only thing he knew about himself is that he was a fighter and he wanted to be the BEST fighter in the world,hector was no where near as serious as this,he was a human and a kind person who hates killing,he would never feel justified in achilles'es ambitions,the art of hitting WITHOUT EVER GETTING HIT was achilles'es speciality and thats where he is superior compared to hector,but they both had heart.Things would have been different if it was an unarmed fight,the thing with weapons is,its too easy for the more skilled person and it is impossible for a human to recover from fatal wounds,to be truthful I would be greatly interested in seeing a hand to hand altercation in between them.
