A very special occasion! Congratulations! I'm tuning in from California. My mom passed away when I was 8, but you guys remind me of my dad and I. We've shared movies my entire life. Growing up someone was always quoting one movie or another around the house. About 20 years ago I moved a few hours away so we didn't get to see as many movies together as we used to. Well, my dad retired about 5 years ago and moved in with my husband and I. Now we are catching up on all the movies we missed. It's a very special experience that I wish all families could share. Good luck for your channel and many years to come!!

I was also a book reader. This movie printed itself on my soul. Artax destroyed us. I always repeat Rock Biter's speech with him. "They look like big, good, strong hands, don't they?" The Empress looking right at us, "Bastian, why don't you do what you dream"... chills. And the first wish is what we would all wish. I loved how much you loved Never Ending Story. Congrats guys. Love seeing how much your channel has grown. In A League Of Their Own, another cast member from Laverne And Shirley makes an appearance, Eddie Mekka, who’s the dancer/guy who makes out with Madonna at the club. He regularly played Carmine on the tv show. While the subtitles don’t catch it for some reason, Bastine’s mom’s name was Moonchild, obviously a child of the 60’s. Both films are big faves of mine from different times growing up so this made a wonderful double feature. Great show.

The guy dancing wirh Madonna at the Suds Bucket Roadhouse was Eddie Mekka. He played Carmine (aka the Big Ragoo) on Laverne and Shirley. He was an excellent Singer and Dancer. One of Baseball Stadium Announcers calling the game was David Lander who played Squiggy on Laverne and Shirley. The Baseball Scout was played by Jon Lovitz (from Saturday Night Live). Many of his insults and funny comments weren't in the script and were adlibs by Lovitz himself. Jimmy Duggan (Tom Hank's character) was based on the Real Manager of the Rockford Peaches former Star Player Jimmy Foxx. Kit (Lori Petty) has a Cult following as the title character in the movie "Tank Girl". The horrible bruise on the Player's leg WAS real and it took over a year to heal completely..

What a combination... And I'm not just talking about the movies... Btw: "Neverending story" is really based on the first part of the classic childrens book of the same name by German author Michael Ende. At first he supported the production of the movie, mainly shot in Germany, but in the end he was the greatest critic of the result. He basically felt it fell too flat compared to his novel. Knowing and loving the book I can see that, but the movie still has a special place in my heart. Fuchur is still on display some minutes from here...

The mother's basically unintelligible name is "Moonchild", but I'm sure someone else in the comments has mentioned this already... :) The whole "people without hope are easy to control" bit came from the fact that Michael Ende, who wrote the original book, was basically a commie. He really had it in for commercialism and modern, stress-filled society where people scurry around like rats to "save time", but end up with less of it than when they started. Another of his children's books, "Momo" deals with that concept in an even more pronounced fashion. (It's a fantastic book by the way, and would have become an incredible streaming TV miniseries, but I digress... :D) Btw, Ende himself hated this movie - in part because he thought too much had been cut out from the book (the movie deals with just the first half of the story - and if you thought the first half of the book/movie is dark in places, well the second half of the story gets really REALLY dark lol), but I suspect he simply hated the whole movie-making commerical machine. Even so, Wolfgang Peterson really did a wonderful job on this movie, and it actually is a really well-done adaptation that takes a lot of the major beats of the storyline, and the first part is eminently suitable as a standalone story. Trying to add any more book, and you just dilute the whole thing so nothing has time to stand out on its own. The Neverending Story is a large tome, you could never do all of it justice in just one movie. You have to understand that novels and movies are totally different media with different rule-sets governing them; what makes a good book would oftentimes make a bad or possibly even terrible movie if just translated straight into pictorial form. You gotta adapt, and I suppose Ende just didn't want to understand that, for whatever reason. He died some time ago now, and not that old either. Unfortunately I don't recall the reason though. Sad, he was a terrific author.

Greatest chick flick of all time, or close to it. Madonna was brought in as stunt casting to bring in an audience, but her chemistry with Rosie O'Donnell is kind of excellent. Lori Petty, Kit, went on to star in Free Willy and more notably the live action 90s version of the comic book Tank Girl. It doesn't get much more 90s than Tank Girl. This is also one of my favourite Jon Lovitz roles and Tom Hanks roles. Hanks insisted on doing this against his agent's objections because at the time, he was a leading man and his agent felt it was beneath him. There are a lot of scenes in this movie that would never be filmed today and it's so early 90s that I kind of love it for that. The scene where the black lady catches the ball, barehanded, is a nod to Hank Aaron, who broke the colour barrier in the 1950s. Black women weren't allowed in the women's league.

1:05:35 - The name is "Moon Child". I could never tell what it said as a kid, I think it is unintentionally hard to hear it (which is great because then us kids viewing it could imagine our own names to give the Empress, feeling like even more of a participant in the story alongside all the characters). I'm not sure if it's true, but I think I read somewhere that there is a theory (or it's alluded to in the book) that his mom was a part of the hippie culture, possibly the type to live on a commune sort of thing (some hippies who did the commune thing and "back to earth" movement during that time period took names like "moon child", "rainbow", and so on). Maybe his dad was like that too but had "sold out" and lost his hopes and dreams when dealing with the bleak realities of his wife dying and having to raise a child on his own/etc.
