Some fun facts that only older folks will remember. IRL, "Dottie and Kit" were from Canada, not out west. Their actual names were Marge and Helen Callaghan. Helen had five sons, and one of her sons, Casey Candaele played a short time in MLB. Helen and Casey were the only mother-son duo to play professional baseball. Another of Helen's sons made the original documentary that inspired the movie.

Also,.Penny Marshall was a huge baseball fan and had a collection of baseball memorabilia 3): Penny Marshall had 2 of her former "Laverne & Shirley" cast mates appear in this movie, Eddie Mekka, who played the role of Madonna's dancing partner, played Carmine, on "Laverne & Shirley" 4): The actresses that played the elderly versions of Kit and Dottie had their voices dubbed over by Geena Davis and Lori Petty, who played the younger versions of Kit and Dottie 5): Actresses Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna ended up becoming friends in real life while making this movie, after discovering how similarly their backgrounds were

All the actresses had two tryouts-playing baseball and acting. If they couldn't play ball, they didn't get to do an acting audition. The story goes the batting cages in Los Angeles were booked solid for weeks by actresses learning how to play. Rosie O'Donnell had played in college, but many didn't have an athletic background. Madonna had to learn how to play, and Rosie was a big help to her. She also had to do dance rehearsals, so she was putting in about twice as many hours off set as anyone else. Everyone was impressed with her desire to learn and do well.

And we had seen her keep hold of the ball in an earlier scene. But still, it wasn't like she gave the game to Kit: She batted the ball at Kit; she said to pitch high fast balls because Kit couldn't lay off them and couldn't hit them; and she was honestly shocked when Kit hit the ball. I'm pretty sure that the letting go of the ball was almost spontaneous.
@whitneydavis33275 ай бұрын
@melenatorr really good points that I agree with. She didn't give her the game. She challenged her, made her work for it & show that she had the heart & skill to be great. Which Kit ultimately did. But, in my heart, I believe it still wasn't enough. Knowing that Kit gave her everything & it still wasn't enough in the championship game - Dottie knew she wouldn't be able to handle a defeat of that magnitude. So she did the truly selfless & loving act of dropping that ball.

One of the best chick flicks you will ever see and it's based on a true story. Some of the names were changed, but some of the characters are all based on real people. They actually brought in Madonna as a gimmick to try to bring in audiences, even having her sing the title song, The Used To Be My Playground, but as it turned out, she gave one of her best performances here and had good chemistry with Rosie O'Donnell. Some of her lines are priceless and she delivers them really well. If you want to see more of Kit AKA Lori Petty, she had a starring role in a 90s comic book movie called Tank Girl. Happy 4th Mr Video. Great movie and reaction! I’m only gonna say it one more time because third time’s a charm: “Revenge of the Nerds” was made for you.

The Black woman throwing, with the rest of them standing behind the gate, is a nod to those who weren't allowed to play in this league

The old ladies playing in the beginning were the actual players this is based on

11:05 In the actual AAGPBL they did in fact have to attend those beauty and etiquette classes. There was a lot of criticism on the league early on because people thought it wasn't "proper" for a woman to play sports. That was the league's of of countering it to say they can be athletes and "lady-like". 12:05 It was also a business strategy of the league to focus on putting teams in mid-sized markets in the midwest because they had no professional teams and with no TVs in many homes, they couldnt really watch a live ball game, listening to the radio coverage was it. Once TVs started getting into virtually every household and MLB started expanding with more teams it pretty much killed the league.

Player with the bruised leg....that was real. They were really out there and they had full on tryouts for the game itself. Even for those in the main roles. Freakin' fun movie. So rewatchable like The Sandlot. I watch it maybe once a year. Lay off those high ones bruh. : ) Great reaction.

Geena Davis and Samuel L Jackson do a action comedy movie together 1996 The Long Kiss Goodnight. Samuel L Jackson has said this is his favorite movie of his. It's got some great one liner's. Check it out. Happy 4th of July, grape freeze pop is a classic 😀
