holy shit you've made that thing perfectly. i was afraid you would close in those variacs but once i saw the blue lights and the clicking i knew you made it the best possible. the way the power cables come out the back is just so cool. i love how your house is basicly a museum of electrical infrastructure with all the bulbs and mercury arc rectifiers and fusses sitting about. they really are some of the most beautiful decorations. as for not having a diagram for wiring up the buttons, you already have the diagram in your head so if you tried to follow a piece of paper it would just be tedious and waste time. atleast thats how it is for me. i bet you've been building this thing in your head for years. i'm sorry things are still going rough for you. life can be a real bitch sometimes, computers too. i barely get my videos working due to compatability problems, i have to convert the video files like 3 times before i can upload. and i try to upload once a day so it reeeeaaally makes my blood boil sometimes. i do have to say your camera looks great. and the structure of this video is so well made. just don't feel like now that youve made such a nice video you always have to make your videos so nice. i would still enjoy even if you recorded on VHS haha. btw i think i may need to send you something to "fix" with your new power supply. i'm thinking maybe my 1960s powerdrill that always shocks me, that thing should take a lot of power before it pops. :D

I haven't messed with my line in over a year but over the last few months I've been adding stuff to it the updates are on my channel. I also rebuilt my high voltage power supply so I could energize it- I had one just like it 5 years ago but scrapped it shortly after I built it- the only thing I kept from it was my 7,200Volt capacitor.

Welcome back Andy! Sorry to hear about everything that's happened over the past few months, been through similar but not all in such a short space of time. I can appreciate all the work that's gone in to your new power supply, especially designing the control system both electrically and ergonomically - and getting those controllers to function just how you wanted. And it looks the business too! Especially the funky blue LEDs on the variac stack. Can't wait to see it in action - you've given us an overview but it's probably worth a whole video in itself demonstrating the functionality in detail... with the obligatory signature POP! to round it off :)

These are the settings I use in Vegas:- Project Properties: This is a template I've saved as "HD 1080 25p (1920x1080, 25.000 fps)" Just take the existing HD 1080-50i template, change Field Order to "None (progressive scan)" and save it with a new name. Use this one from now on. Render Properties: Save as type: Sony AVC (*.mp4; *.m2ts; *.avc) Template: take the existing "Internet 16:9 HD 25p" template, change Frame Size to "High definition (1920x1080)" and save with a new name (I use "Internet 16:9 HD1080 25p") Files created with the above settings will happily upload to KZbin, at least they do for me :)

sparkyuiop I admire your honesty, please don't worry, I think BoomBoxDeluxe has heard most things, calling bull is an easy mistake, thinking about it, if I had a long conversation with you on the phone and you did a vid on it, well...Perhaps one or two would call bull to you. Your very welcome here, really no worries :) Thank you. BTW, I'm far from perfect with internet etiquette. ( thank fuck for spell check ) lol

***** Thanks Andy, glad I didn't upset anyone on my favourite channel! BTW what model camera do you have? I bought a JVC GY-HM100 semi pro camera and it records in MP4 and MOV format. Cyberlink PD and the like shit a brick if I try and edit my files with them and no codec seems to fix this. I just wonder if you are having this same issue? I sought help online somewhere and was told my camera was made with the hardware geared toward using Apple's Final Cut Pro software. However I was told I can use Adobe's Premier Pro CC software to edit my preferred recording format of MP4. I have been using APPCC for a month now and it works like a charm. That said it is nowhere near as easy to use as Cyberlink software by a long chalk. I am now just starting to show some confidence with the Adobe software and I am starting to see the benefit of the editing power to be gained from using a decent camera. If you are having a similar issue you should probably struggle down this route as I have. These are definitely toys for the big boys and makes Cyberlink stuff look like it was made for children! P.S I can see your camera box in the video, looks like a semi-pro cam so I think I might be right?

I dont know what program you use for editing, but Sony Vegas would be great for these simple edits! Handbrake is free, you only need it if you work in raw uncompressed formats (HUGE FILES). If you want help figuring it out, drop me an e-mail - I'll walk you through it.

Yay.....YAY......YAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Mr. Photon is back, peoples! :D Haha, I ROFL'd so hard when I saw the size of those plugs.... LMAO! Yes, I did get pretty excited at those. The biggest plugs I have to date, are the 32A blue plugs (BS EN 60309-2) for my 28A BIG DOGG variac. That thing is going to be proper nuts when you fire it up for the first time on-camera. I say...... Stuff the kettle on it, RIP IT RIGHT UP and let's see what a kettle can really handle. :D If those heating elements took a 440v beating _outside_ of water, then surely the kettle would be OK on say... 350v ? :D Let me bust some Ohms Law calculations right here: ___________________________________________________ 3kW kettle at 240v = 19.2 ohms. Supposing we wanted to "upgrade" the kettle to 6kW..... :D 6000 watts and 19.2 ohms would give us a target input voltage of............. 339.41 volts. :D Ah stuff it, just give it the full 340 volts. :D ROFL. (340v, 19.2 ohms = 6020.83 watts) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, at 340v, you're definitely going to be needing that powered-backwards transformator device to ramp-up the volts a bit more than what the variacs can produce. :-) The theory is....... at double the power rating, you'll achieve cuppa-tea-time in half the time of a boring-old-domestic-everyday 3kW kettle. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you'll get upto with that extra-beefy assemblage of electrical toys.....Just don't go popping the 100A service fuse, OK? :D Take care, -BoomBoxDeluxe. Wow, BoomBoxDeluxe you flatter me with your sizable comments yet again. The double output transformer will be in use on all tests giving 480v out, the variacs will never make it to 240, the item connected to it will be obliterated way before then:) Hope your well, Andy

@BoomBoxDeluxe
@BoomBoxDeluxe 9 жыл бұрын
***** The perfect explanation to this is _"BBD's telephone HOT Line"_ (which is available to view on my channel). You can have all the current going, but if you haven't got the VOLTS to shove that current through something.....Nothing happens! Initially, we thought that a mobile phone would go haywire and completely let loose when directly-wired to 240v.....It just sat there! *NOT HAVIN' IT !!!!!!!!! :D* Visit my channel and watch _"BBD's telephone HOT Line"_ to see how we managed to PROPERLY recharge that phone, and some of the high voltages involved. :D Given that the phone was a SAGEM, the results were deeply satisfying! :D -BoomBoxDeluxe. _16th September 2014, 12.45_
