This is definitely the scariest FNAF game out of the entire franchise. Having it be a bedroom makes it way more personal, you're supposed to feel secure but you're not, which makes it all the more unsettling. The lack of cameras keeps the environment cramped, because they're constantly outside your room, just at varying lengths. And the lack of any prolonged defences makes it feel more dangerous. The first game had the doors you could close while doing other things, the second game had the light and mask ward off the animatronics, the third game had the audio lure as well as closing off the vents. Here, you just have a flashlight to ward off Freddy on your bed, and physically closing the doors after listening to the footsteps and breathing to block them. everything just feels so cramped and personal that you lose all sense of security

Man the nostalgia is mad on this one but.....idk, the newer entries just don't seem like it anymore, and the older ones, well they dont scare me anymore. They just dont. Maybe its time to move on. Nightmare is the most frightening of the animations for me. There are a couple of reasons for this: *unless you can get a still of him, his first appearances make him seem to have a somewhat ambiguous form. Not being able to surely identify what he is makes him more threatening to me. Even in his jumpscare, he has no solid outline aside from his eyes and teeth. It makes him feel less like one of the other animatronics and more like an incarnation of the child's death. With that in mind, even if you survive him, what he represents is still inevitable for the child. * TV static and garbled electronic noises have always been jarring for me. The beeping of a phone's extended disconnect also unsettles me when accompanied by silence. When I learned it was the sound of a distorted ambulance siren, this was made worse for me. * his jumpscare is actually not typical of the other animatronics. The still image along with sirens actually symbolized the child's brain literally ceasing function for me. *The combination of these details really cemented the feeling of death coming for this child, and since you're playing him, it feels like Nightmare is coming for YOU. It feels like you're trying to escape something you can't, something that, no matter what you do, will still consume you. That, for me, is terrifying.
