Pain and discomfort aren’t meant to “push through” to prove yourself. Rather, pain and discomfort are signs our bodies, emotions use to communicate that something is “off”. If you are trained to build up a resistance and an ability to numb out to discomfort, one will become more vulnerable to predators, to illness and just unhealthy people and situations. Life is suffering. Pain is inevitable (not all the time, of course). Learning how to be with that is key.... These groups are dangerous. They use a little bit of truth to pull you in....then, if you find you are not supported to walk away it’s creepy.

Vicente has a history of being in cults. just a few years before NXIVM he extricated himself from the Yelm, Washington based "Ramtha" cult that Linda Evans from Dynasty was a big part of. "Ramtha" being the spirit of a 3000 year old warrior channeled through the body of a woman named JZ Knight. Also, as much credit as he and Edmondson get for blowing the lid on this, it may have never happened if not for Vicente’s wife, Bonnie Piese, who he met and married because of the ESP program. She started seeing inconsistencies and "dangerous" behavior from Raniere well before her husband, eventually pulling away from Mark and the organization. It took quite awhile before he, then Edmondson were finally convinced she was right.

All true and good insights. I suppose my point though is that, so far as I can see, there's literally NOTHING so impressive about Rainere or the actual content/curriculum of NXIVM that should have captured anyone....let alone requiring someone to marry Sherlock Holmes before they could detect the whole thing was nothing more than a great big empty sack in the hands of a toady frumpy nothing of a guy. Honestly. Take a moment to objectively listen to Raniere speak. Or take a good hard look at his white board diagrams that supposedly outline or provide insight into his ideas. It's literally all a bucket of jumbled banalities, incoherent thoughts passed off as profundities, and unintelligible cliches. "Knowing what to do is useless without the emotional strength to do what you know." Seriously?? It's like a bad impression of The Sphinx from that movie Mystery Men!! Rainere himself.....AND what curriculum from NXIVM I've been able to see all just seem like a great big "nothing burger" in terms of their actual substance. That anyone could sit at the knee of such a nothing of guy and fawn is just testimony to how social and emotional needs can be used against even well educated 21st century human beings.

@@neologian1783 You are 100% correct and I think that is where Nancy comes in. Boy the prison inmates are going to give him a lesson on how special he is. He will be someone’s slave in the big house. Like a famous song about the “big house” famous prison, Angola in the state of Louisiana: : “ You gonna cry for your mamawhen your Angola bound!” Send him down to the “ boys”in Louisiana with the snakes and gators and the lawman on horseback where convicts sleep in tents in the 100 degree heat and humidity. He will get a taste of what treating people like a slave and their sexual plaything feels like. I hope they put him in a very tough prison. Then off to Coalinga(essentially a prison with guards and wire, for sexual deviants but run by psychiatrists trained to recognize sexual predators) or a similar place after prison for sexual deviants where the psychiatrists never release them. He won’t be able to manipulate them. It is evident that many people need common sense courses and how to look out and protect themselves from predators. There is a woman going to high schools and colleges warning young people about how to spot a sociopath and not to become their victims. All young people need to hear her or something like what she lectures about. And we need to crack down on cults hard, with tough laws instead of giving them a tax break.

This game is not new and will be used by others -- in fact it's a sure bet there are other similar groups right now. L Ron Hubbard was just better at it than Raniere and his brainwashing religion is still in full swing -- I have the suspicion that Raniere's IQ is a good bit lower than claimed. The similarities are not coincidental and Raniere's preference for Hollywood types is straight from the Scientology playbook. If there was a difference it was Raniere's inability to resist the cookie-jar of attractive young women. At least this group didn't kill themselves like the Jim Jones or Heavens Gate cults. It looks like Allison Mack is gong to spend at least 5 years in prison and a once promising acting career is 100% over.

I am so glad that Rick Ross pointed out that Ayn Rand ( not her real name) she was Russian orthodox is and was a cult leader and what she started is the cult of Ayn Rand. It makes me sick to my stomach when I hear powerful politicians in our government for years and still in power positions today say they love Ayn Rand. And Hollywood made that movie. It is so wonderful to hear him call it what it was. She was a terrible woman. She harmed people and treated her husband horribly. She was the definition of castrating female which is a psychological term. And she was against Medicare or giving help to anyone who may have worked their butts off yet had a tragic illness or injury or both happen making them vulnerable, very survival of the fittest, like the Nazi’s, yet when she got cancer she took total advantage of Medicare. What people refer to “ new age” is a lot older than they realize.

Why didn't Sarah Edmondson just say "NO?" She could have simply refused to be branded. She could have run and never looked back at the cult again.

Exactly. What Sarah fails to mention is that during her 12 years in the group she was a lead recruiter. She made 100's of thousands of dollars in the pyramid scheme. Has she given one cent back? Nope. Now she's turned on them to get movie roles and paid interviews to make herself look like a victim so she doesn't get arrested too.

They don't come through the door and are told the facts. Of course they would run if they had. Many of these women had been in NXIVM for years and trusted these people. Also, they were initially told that Kieth Raniere was a "renunciate" and that he didn't HAVE sex. So they had been lulled into a false sense of safety.
