Invite your friends to hang out while you do it if you like, and just have a chill atmosphere while you explain the way you go from rough sketch > clean up > lineart > coloring > any in between these stages > and ESPECIALLY the way that you shade and highlight with all that detail and make your art seem to have a “shiny” like quality that really sticks out to me; it’s one of the things that especially attracts me to your art.

I've found the "don't use black" to not actually mean blocks of black...but like...don't airbrush black (plz no), and don't use black to get a darker version of the colors below it. But solid black forms? Ubiquitous in Comics and Anime. Just don't try to shade red with black to get a darker red.

8:30 Gorillaz has only one artist named Jamie Hewlett he's been doing the art snice phase 1 of Gorillaz so his art has evolved and change a lot over the years. I don't know he was the only artist but I know he has done a for the band and such. The reason why the art looks like that its because the were based of the way monkeys, apes and of course gorillas look and over time threw the phases they evolved and became more human and slowly over time being part of the human world from what peiced together.
