An eyeglass repair kit! First day of our most recent cruise, a screw came loose on my husbands glasses. Fortunately it didn’t fall out, but there were no repair kits for sale and no tiny screwdriver to be found anywhere onboard (even maintenance didn’t have a tiny screwdriver)! He managed to tighten it a bit using my cuticle tool. First port of call, we found a sundry shop that sold those little repair kits, thank goodness! This could have been a major disaster had he lost the screw because he wouldn’t have been able to see anything as his glasses are bifocals. Lesson learned - eyeglass repair kit is now on our “must take” packing list regardless of where or how we are traveling. 🤓

One thing we wished we had on our last cruise was a disposable, medium size plastic food container, like the ones some lunch meats are packaged in. I save them for using on the boat or at the beach. They are great to pack a few snacks from the buffet to take to your cabin, or even to snack on on your shore excursion. We can throw a couple pieces of whole fruit in our tote bag, but a container for some croissants or cookies would've been nice. I'm definitely bringing one or two on the next cruise. You can pack stuff inside, so they take up no room in your luggage.

I just want to send a big Thank You to Ilana! I learned so many things that made our trip on NCL Dawn even more enjoyable. I think the best tip was to buy and bring items for the crew since they have little time on shore to shop. I brought Dollarama and Costco items and tried to focus on the "forgotten ones" that work long hard jobs around the ship. The gang on our section, morning , noon, and night, cleanimg or prepping the rooms were shocked when i gave a large box of Feirra Rochas to them to share. And seeing one lone female in this bunch I gave her a bunch of hair, dental stuff that she could share with her friends. She was so shocked saying no-one had ever given her anything before! And I gave another goodie bag to one of the kitchen ladies. I only wish i had more and spent more time looking for other groups. I gave stewards and bar guys the US dollars and loose change from other trips and euros to the buffet crews. Coins from countries we won't revisit can be used or traded by the crew on future cruises.

Love the tips, have used most of them. Cruised a lot and one tip that I want to SHARE is SAFETY PINS. When going on the excursions you are given a sticker for your blouse, jacket and it often slides off. Just pin the sticker on and it won't curl or slide off. Lots of other people have commented to us that they wish they had pins to. I generally just carry medium size safety pins and leave it in my case with my passport. I sometimes have more than I need in case I loose one and I have given them out to others as well. I won't cruise without them.

I'm concerned about tips I sometimes see from cruisers who suggest buying inexpensive dollar store items, using them for the trip, then leaving them behind. That may work well for the cruisers, but it means more waste and cleanup for the ship crew. Why not try to use re-usables instead of putting our leftovers onto someone else's shoulders?

Dont worry about any extras, bring clothes for dinner and the pool, Skip dressy shorts etc. You are either in pools or out to dinner. We way over packed. Sunscreen, is good, but all of the extras are unnecessary. I bought a hat and swimsuit coverup for 10 dollars each on first day of cruise. Never used any first aid supplies. I got sick 3 days into cruise, bring advil, any aasthma meds and asperin, otherwise dont over plan or pack. We never used dress shorts and tops, the solarium was the perfect spot. Swimsuits and coverup, was all that was needed til dinner.

I got a tip for the ladies. If you wear nylons, bring extra. The ship store does not stock them. If yours develop a run on formal night you might be out of luck. It's happened to my wife more than once.

New subscriber here. We love bringing magnetic white boards as well. We put a blank one outside our door and leave questions of the day for our neighbors. It’s a fun way to get to know people.

I've bought many of the things mentioned in the video, as well as rubber flip flops to use as as slippers, shower shoes and/or to wear at the pool or beach; satin pillow cases (I always travel with my own as I have sensitive skin); snacks (they typically have quite a few name brand options); promotional sized packages of laundry soap and zippered mesh laundry bags for delicates.

Thank you! I forgot where I got the laundry soap that I sent with my friend on her first cruise. Hopefully they still have it now that I want to go on my cruise in a week and a half! 😊

@@shelleyrichards4487 If I am just washing a single item, I just use the shower liquid in the bathroom sink. Wash. rinse. Hang to dry. Spray with wrinkle release. And wear.

safety pins and paper clips help in a pinch to hold things together, and maybe some double sided tape. My husband and I love to cruise, and we have one coming up in October, over his birthday. I'm making a list of things that I have not thought about on our previous cruises.

I like to bring a sturdy page folder. I keep all my daily newsletters, patters etc so it keeps it all flat and crease free plus if I do buy photos, it protects them too

I take your point about room fragrance sprays. After a bad experience some years ago, I always take an air freshener gel block to leave in the bathroom if it smells bad.

Thanks for the pencil case idea that would probably work great for my laundry supplies and it should be able to fit in my purse. I am surprised that you couldn't find those few items might have been out of stock.

The 99 cent store that I go to in Vegas has a small, non-surge-protected power strip. It has 3 outlets and does not have an on/off switch. I'm planning to bring this on my cruise next year. In Hawaii, we've had a Japanese brand of "poo-pourri" for a couple of decades. The bottle is smaller so a bit better for travel, I think. I'm also bringing a bedside caddy from Amazon. It has a flap that goes under the mattress and pockets that hang down. I've noticed that some of the nightstands can be pretty tiny. Something like this (usually between 3 and 6 pockets) are great for your phone, glasses, magazine, iPad, or even a water bottle. The brand that I have is Zafit. Some brands have straps that attach to bunk bed rails but the one I have has a flap.

Thanks for all your informative videos! They've been a great help as I get ready for next month's cruise. One thing our local Dollar Tree has is a small phone cord/ear buds holder that zips closed. It's smaller than the palm of my hand and will fit easily in my pocket or purse. I'm taking my phone and Kindle and they both use the same cord size so less to pack.

I found by accident that imperial leather soap removes even oil from clothing. A few years ago I was vindicated when a reality show (English- how clean is your house) ladies recommended it to get stain out of a sofa. As we often backpack we need dual duty items.
