Nobody is saying that the Dutch have no sense of humor. The Dutch say that about the Germans.

Biking is CHEAP! Can't make a Dutchie more happier than that. Kidding, but yeah, we love not spending money on things that can be faster and better. Biking is way more efficient than a car in most cities and villages. We have a saying: work to live, don't live to work.

Greetings from Amsterdam.I think you do a pretty decent general description of the country. Maybe a bit too rosy but ok.

The herring is not raw. Raw even we would not eat it. It was kept in salted water.

Wiki: Gibbing is the process of preparing salt herring (or soused herring), in which the gills and part of the gullet are removed from the fish, eliminating any bitter taste. The liver and pancreas are left in the fish during the salt-curing process because they release enzymes essential for flavor. The fish is then cured in a barrel with one part salt to 20 herring. In Dutch "Haring kaken". According to a popular story, the process of gibbing was invented by Willem Beukelszoon a 14th-century fisherman from Biervliet, Zealand (Zeeuws-Vlaanderen). The invention of this fish preservation technique led to the Dutch becoming a seafaring power.[3]

Yes you are right, ask the English (the founders of humor)... we always use humor... even if it gets inconveniënt...! The problem lies in the words Dietz ( Dutch) & Deutsch, that what ment German from hundreds of yeas ago. Probably Englishmen thought they met Dutch people, when they met German people. How do I know? Because Germany has one book of the best German humor... and still, not even the first page was written, just one joke from a drunk Bavarian, who could not tell the clue before he died!

Fashion? Sure, NO baseball caps. Very few shorts. Look at the video. Herring isn't "raw". Ever heard of sushi or ceviche and many other raw fish and meat dishes?
