The Master imho is among the best of the 2010’s in that it grows with each rewatch: 1. Joaquin Phoenix’ performance is a revelation 2. Incredible ensemble that also includes Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, Rami Malek and the inimitable Philip Seymour Hoffman 3. The processing scene is widely regarded as one of the best dialogues in modern cinema 4. Cinematography and score are incredible 5. Best take on Scientology, but also a raw perspective on post-war PTSD

If its engrossing enough the subtitles don't matter, if I find them tedious its probably because the movie itself is so. Sometimes watching foreign language movies in the cinema is better too as there are no distractions.

Watched this video today, pushed me to finally watch Safety Not Guaranteed. Was not expecting to find it so endearing; probably my most endorsable on your list. Regarding Life of Brian, I’m not sure about rewatching this comedy classic when there is just so much I’ve never seen. I can’t remember it clearly so maybe I will. Everything Python made is a joy. I fell asleep watching Hail Caesar…more than once, gonna skip watching it again. Watched Synchronic earlier this week, solely on your recommendation. Entertaining watch but not on my list of recommendations to friends. My kids refused to watch Mitchell’s vs Machines with me, their loss. I enjoyed it way more than a grown up should expect to. Paranorman is a solid recommendation, we watch it most Halloween seasons. I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore was a pleasant surprise, I think I watched it after one of your previous videos. I was kinda surprised your #1 was Shutter Island, your endorsement was worded so strongly I’m questioning my harsh judgement of it when it first came out. Anyway, solid list bud, keep them coming.

I remember watching Little Monsters at a sleep over party when I was like 9, we all loved it. I remember it so well because my 12 year old sister, who puberty hit like a ton of bricks and was already like 5'9 and over 250lbs, harassed us the entire time.So we got fed up and made a bunch of paper ninja stars and compressed them as hard as we could so that they were actually pretty hard and pointy and we all attacked her at once beaning her with a few dozen ninja stars and ran away. She tried to chase us but she was so big and awkward she stubbed her pinky toe and snapped it off to the side. I had to call my mom while she was hysterically crying in the background screaming "MY TOE IS POINTING THE WRONG WAY!!!" while all my friends were laughing. Good times.

Life of Brian a) is not overlooked outside of the US, and b) is NOT about Jesus renamed Brian, its about a guy called Brian who happened to be born the same day and town as Jesus and oddly parallels his life. Jesus is not an actual character in the movie but is present in the story. Its a brilliant satire of society in general and also a parody of those old swords and sandals movies (sometimes very pointedly) and is superior to Holy Grail in my opinion as it has more layers to it. I first watched as a kid and in each subsequent viewing as I grew up I got more of the points it was making, but always found it brilliant. I did show it to a friend though who sat through the whole thing and then said it wasn't a comedy as there 'were no jokes in it'. She wasn't brought up on satire I guess.
