Wow, I just watched “You Were Never Really Here”! Thanks for the recommendation it was awesome (if that story can be called that), my wife really enjoyed it too. The director Lynne Ramsey has a style that really makes you feel like your there in the scenes and locations. I lived in NYC for 36 years of my life and she captured the background sounds and I could imagine the smells and feel the weather. When Joaquin is on the train with his head against the windows could feel the coldness of the window and the sounds were spot on and made me remember being on the LIRR and MTA trains late at night after being out on the town with a little hangover and how the coldness of the window made me feel better. Wow! Thanks again!

Dr. Strangelove is one of my favorite older movies. Yet again, Kubrick was brilliant. It's got some of the dryest tongue in cheek humor and sarcasm I've ever seen, and it's awesome. The names of the cbaracters themselves are a scathing satire of the Cold War and the military industrial complex. Underrated classic that everyone should see.

Great list, but not quite right about what happened with Boondock Saints: writer/director Troy Duffy originally made a deal with Harvey Weinstein and Miramax, who bought his script for 400k, as well as the bar, and even set up a deal for his band with Madonna’s label. But Troy was such a dick that all the deals were cancelled, and he had to make a deal with Franchise Pictures to make the movie with 1/10 of the budget. The whole debacle is chronicled in the awesome doc “Overnight,” which I believe is here on KZbin, and makes a great double feature with Boondock.

Cabin in the Woods - I hate horror but I LOVE this movie. Lock Stock & 2 - OMG just the crazy funniest Guy Ritchie brilliance. True Lies - the ultimate MacGuffin - it's a love story. Clay Pigeons is one of my all-time favorite movies. All the characters are spot on: the bad guy, the good guy, the ex girlfriend, the sheriff, the FBI agents. And the soundtrack choices are so trippy and unique and perfect. And then there is the "look" of the movie. I love the way it is shot in all the scenes and how the director took moments just to look at something irrelevant to the plot. Just because it was there. So so good. My ex boyfriend said: "What movie should we watch? And don't say 'Clay Pigeons'" I knew I had to dump him right then. (Just kidding, I think....)

Darren you have the most accurate description and eye for films! I remember first screening Brick in 05’ and just absolutely falling in love with its unique almost art-house aesthetic of a superbly captured 20’sesq pulp and grimly fashioned detectives’ narrative of a rugged, wildly brilliant character unraveling a mysterious plot of a modern day who-done-it with perfectly woven character actors. It’s a super fun watch and highly recommend for anyone who wants to just “turn it off” for a while and watch a solid mystery! Also “The kid Detective” is brilliant as well do yourself a homeboy solid and give it a watch. You’ll be glad you did
@demonicsweaters3 жыл бұрын
Robocop is such an amazing classic. When I saw it as a kid though, it kinda traumatized me. It was so over the top with the violence, even to this day it seems incredibly gory. However, I've got to say, the remake was way better than I thought it would be. I really didn't think it was bad at all. It was a totally different film, but still enjoyable.

GBU is my absolute favourite film ever but people always call it a Clint Eastwood film when in fact it's really an Eli Wallach film. We learn nothing about Blondie, and next to nothing about Angel Eyes, but we learn all about Tuco - his family background, we meet his brother, he discloses everything about his life and his likes and dislikes. There are additional scenes available these days of Tuco and his team holed-up but as good as it is to see the additional material, I think it slows the film down and prefer the originally-released version. GBU reminds me of Christmas, which people think is odd but that's because it used to play on TV in the UK at Christmas when I was young in the 1970s - before we had VCRs or other means to watch-on-demand.

An amazing list. I keep forgetting if "Ghost Protocol" is the third or fourth MI movie but it's by far my very favorite. "Clay Pigeons" caught us by surprise, we had no idea what we were getting into, but in for a dime in for a dollar. Once it got underway we were in it All The Way. Pure entertainment. Likewise "True Lies". We were expecting trouble but were delightedly surprised. "Dr. Strangelove" I didn't even realize was Kubrick until a few years ago. ABSOLUTELY Must See. The ultimate Cold War movie. The characterizations are all wildly over the top and absolutely perfect, including Peter Sellars playing three entirely different characters, all perfectly straight. Yeah, it's a comedy, but in a very cold, black comedy sort of way. Nobody is telling jokes, the situation if far too serious. They just find themselves in completely absurd situations.

Clay Pigeons is perhaps Vince Vaughn's BEST performance. It's sad to see it as a hidden gem, I and those I've convinced to watch it consider it REALLY good. And thanks for alerting me to The GBU being on now. It's absolutely one of my favorite "spaghetti Westerns" of all time, maybe a close second to High Plains Drifter. These are some outstanding choices, the biggest issue I have with Prime is how great movies are so hard to find in their interface. BTW watching Failsafe, then Dr. Strangelove, makes for quite the double feature. There are so many here that are ROCKIN' good, The African Queen, You Were Never Really Here, Apocolypto, and on and on... thanks so much for digging into that messy damn interface and picking these gems.
