That run-around airborne inside-out forehand is the most beautiful and killer shot of the history of the sport
@chriswells59832 жыл бұрын
The one I wish he had played at 40-30 Wimbledon 2019, lol. Was so sad when he went up the line poorly and got passed! Inside out airborne forehand would have won the cheese!
@jollymolly25212 жыл бұрын
@@chriswells5983 Don't even get me started on that. I think the problem was he was slightly out of position and couldn't quite get around in time to go with the IO FH. Nerves are a beeytoch.

I remember that forehand against Monfils in Madrid very clearly because it was a tense situation watching it live. Considering the stage at which the match was, it was a breathtaking one!

Must drop another comment here: it's just amazing the ability how he absolutely vaporizes the forehand if necessary. Epic variatons in his shots 🙌💪🎾🐐

Three observations. 1. There won't ever be another player like the Fed. 2. His inside-out FH was glorious, his footwork was remarkable, and that outstretched left arm as he lines up for the shot looks quite lovely, but I think the shot at about 7:00 against Ferrer is the best of the bunch shown. Inside-in from way behind the baseline and landing it in a corner. 3. I haven't watched the whole match...but it's hard to believe he lost the 2012 WTF final to the Djoker. Props to ND for holding on, but it's just one other match that confirms what everyone objective knows: Fed was quite easily the greater *_player_* but the Djoker was the younger player and the more tenacious winner.

If Fed did not have choking tendencies, he probably would have killed the game years ago.
@machello92 жыл бұрын
@@mantaishere it's not abut choking tendencies, it's what kind of game you play. Djokovic plays a safer kind of tennis for various reasons. Federer has always been aggressive, high risk--high reward.
@mantaishere2 жыл бұрын
@@machello9 It's interesting that there is now so much resistance to the idea of choking, primarily when it comes to Fed-Djoker. It was actually a tongue-in-cheek comment and of course 'Federer as choker extraordinare' is very much overplayed. But why pretend that mistakes cannot be made at the most inopportune time(s)? Poor execution, poor decision-making... if what you mean is that having a high-risk game makes him tighter in these situations and more prone to mistakes, then fine. But Federer has often played BPs and even MPs too safe. He overthinks in these situations.

As Toni Nadal put it, Federer could rev his game to 11/10 but could drop down at other times to 7 or 8/10. Nadal and Djoker were a more consistent 8-9/10. Also while Federer has lost 22 matches holding match points (most unfortunately against Djokovic and Nadal), he has also won 22 matches facing match points, which is higher both ways than the other 2 combined. That's how it always was. So brilliant was the maestro at certain moments that at other moments when he simply made basic errors it felt like a glitch in the universe.😂

@@srinitaaigauraexactly and that's why he is the most exciting to watch out of the 3 .... It's like he could have a safer much more consistent game and win more slams .... But then he wouldn't be Roger ..... He doesn't grind like Novak he is quick aggressive.... Doesn't take much time to serve nor takes as much time between serves ..... He came up with the SABR ..the only one in big 3 with 1H backhand ... But being a roger fan it definitely frustrating to see him lose crucial points because he was just too eager to hit a winner or attack the net .... But at the end of the day anybody can win any number of slams ... There won't be a Roger Federer ever again ....

I still can't believe that it wasn't 20 years of playing on the tour but a slip in the bathroom that began the knee issues that would ultimately force him to retire. The most exquisite footwork and precision of any player ever. Alcaraz does many of those shots too, but put his movement side by side and the maestro's perfection is otherworldly.

That last FH against Ferrer in Toronto in 2014 - I remember watching that match and when he wailed on that FH and it landed right in the corner I just fell over laughing. Ferrer just kind of looked at Roger like, "Are you kidding me?" Also, the bonus point - the sound of the ball coming off Roger's racket is so totally different than most players. The announcers always comment on Roger being a "pure striker" of the ball and it's certainly a different sound that the ball coming off Djokovic's racket.
