The fact that you could buy a cheeseburger for 50 cents back then is still hard to believe. Now a cheeseburger is $6 or $7 where I am. I miss simpler times. Very sad.

It's all relative, I suppose. My parents bought a two-story, four bedroom/two full bathroom and 1/2 bathroom house, with full basement and attic, with solid wood doors and hardwood floors, on a 3/4ths acre lot for $32,000 dollars back in 1969! They sold it, in 2001, for $350,000. It recently fetched $500,000. Inflation, I guess.
@ButcherBird-FW190D5 ай бұрын
We did not earn very much back then, either.
@samr.england6134 ай бұрын
@@ButcherBird-FW190D Yeah. People don't seem to understand relativity and inflation. The minimum wage in 1970, in most of the country, was around $1.50. So, it would take you about an hour to earn enough money for lunch at McD's or Burger Chef. Nowadays, earning a wage of $15 an hour, um, well, it takes you an hour of work to earn enough to eat lunch at McD's.
@ButcherBird-FW190D4 ай бұрын
@@samr.england613 Yes, exactly. People don't understand inflation; nor relative purchasing power. Nor that we experienced substantially higher inflation, and for a number of years, in the last 1970's and early 1980's. All they do is complain and nag, with very little understanding of how the financial system actually works.

One Royal Castle still remains in the U.S. at the corner of NW 79th Street and NW 27th Avenue in Miami, Florida. New owners recently renovated the shop, brought back the original Castle burgers and we (our Miami Beach boys) reintroduced their famous Birch Beer (no frosty mugs yet). Still reasonable prices and good friendly service for a 6 - pack of little burgers, fries and birch beer. ❤

Because of COVID, salad bars and buffets are long gone. Communal utensils, open covers--states won't allow that any more. You touch the handle of a serving spoon by some one infected, they pass it on, you pass it on--even in the grocery stores now, bulk items and grind-your-own coffee are gone, replaced by pre-weighted bags and plastic containers.

Seattle misses Godfather's Pizza, Shakey's Pizza, Round Table Pizza, and Pizza Haven. Some of us Miss Frosty Freeze and A & W drive up service with window trays. But we still have a Burgermaster, which is always busy. The sign says, "Turn on lights for service" and you can listen to 80's and 90's music outside while you wait in your car. Love that place. About $15 a person, though, but worth it. There was another place in Ballard (part of Seattle) that had a Zesto's, and only a few of us remember it. Delicious, and 17 flavors of shakes. (Burgermaster has 12 flavors though).

Have only had Burger Chef once: When I was in 3rd grade, in Abilene Texas, back in 1974, there was a Burger Chef right next to the school. One day my Mom went over and got me a Double Hamburger. I don't like stuff on it, so she got it plain like I like and made it a Double ... brought it to me for lunch. One of the BEST burgers I can remember, and to this day: My fave is a Plain Double Burger! Sometimes with bacon and maybe cheese if I'm feeling cheesy. :) God rest her soul. Thank you, Mom!

So he opened Wuv's & if he could they were close to a Wendy's. We lost supervisors & managers to him. Boy, did we take a hit at my store money wise! Everybody was going to the New Wuv's. They went out of business after a year or so? Poorly run by the owner. My Wendy's moved over into the newly closed building! It's still a Wendy's to this day.
