My kids favorite snack was called “crack mix” our youngest couldn’t pronounce trail mix LOL this was long before there was such a thing as the drug crack. But the name does fit because it’s addictive. The largest box you can find of plain Cheerios, half a box of raisins, half a bag of coconut, half a bag of mini chocolate chips, and as much honey drizzled on to make it combine together. It would last them all week long. You can add whatever else you want to it Craisins or nuts, etc. But we just ate it like this. And even though they’re all in their 30s and 40s now my children (and my grandchildren) still love it. My husband especially loves it. I had to hide it from him 😂

I’ve had my Whirly Pop since the 1990’s and use it a lot. I use coconut oil and some coarse salt for seasoning. It’s so much better than the microwave bags!

We ran out of olive oil the other day and used refined coconut oil! I don't remember telling a difference, but I am pretty sure my popcorn snob husband could tell ;)

All good snack ideas 😊 one suggestion to save from using snack bags for the frozen kale and spinach … once the whole bags are frozen or purchased frozen, you can just break off the amount you need very easily. It becomes crumbly enough that you can break off the amount you need.

I love popcorn. I make it I'm the microwave in a corelle bowl with a corelle plate on it. I sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar for sweet or nutritional yeast and salt for savory flavor. My mom used to make popsicles all the time and in Florida we had plenty of citrus to use. She also froze yogurts for us to eat as ice cream which of course took longer to eat so she kept us busy with that. She made homemade pickles and gave us those for snacks. Also jello was a big thing as a kid. Now it is a granola bar, nuts, or a piece of fruit, or celery and carrot sticks. Maybe your daughter would like the chickpeas made into hummus instead. For that I substitute the tahini with peanut butter because tahini is expensive and I always have peanut butter on hand. Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend.

Lori i love your snack idea's i have another saltine variation for you cream cheese and strawberry jam or my favorite pear jam. I was wondering how many kids do you have and what state do you live in. I live in Tennessee and have 3 kids but mine are older 15, 16, and 18. I just had allergy testing and found out i am allergic to tons of things and l can't have any processed foods so trying to come up with things i can snack on is hard but you did give me a few ideas that i can do. Thank you for all you do i love your channel and you have the sweetest heart.

If your family has a sweet tooth if you just Bake their sweets yourself that can save quite a bit too. If you get those little muffin packs they are like $6 for a small box but you can get several muffin mixes for the same $6 and still have them. If you get a lot of cookies you can make no bake ones with peanut butter and oats and they're a bit healthier too. I know sweets aren't particularly healthy but if your buying them anyways it can cut the cost a bit. And if you freeze an off brand go gurt it's a cheap popsicle/ice cream bar and probably a bit healthier depending on what you'd normally get. If your family likes flavored popcorn you can still pop your own and just get those flavor seasonings separately. You can make your own chocolate dipped or praline nuts too, or dip chocolate pretzels instead of paying the high cost of the packaged ones, or dip strawberries or bananas. You can make your own applesauce pretty easily too and just freeze it into small containers and thaw as needed. I'm not saying go wild and eat tons of sugar just putting ideas out there if you are looking for a sweet option for less than the cost of pre packaged.

@@homemadesimplewithlori I don’t think it’s too spicy, but it is made with chili powder so it might depend on your spice tolerance! They carry the seasoning at my aldi! (They have a new sauce that’s not as good, stick with the seasoning)

@homemadesimplewithlori

HA! I could not edit that part out! I loved her reaction so much! The reason I put it in is that a lot of recipes call for ranch seasoning and that is what is included in the ranch seasoning--a lot of dry milk and dill weed. I thought about not putting it in, but I decided to add it. It isn't a necessary part, I don't think...
