Cream of Rice cereal was my favorite cereal, and one of the first foods I made for my babies. I made my kids' baby food before it became a "trendy" thing to do, lol.

As a kid growing up in the 1960's , sometimes we kids and our parents would make "soggy toast" . "Soggy toast" is made by spreading an excessive amount of butter on bread and baking it in a broiler oven . I make it today by spreading an excessive amount of butter on bread , putting it in a micro wave oven for twenty seconds and then putting it in a toaster for two to three minutes . I will then spread jelly , jam , preserves , or honey on it . YUM !!!
@firebird652214 күн бұрын
I made that too! I never heard the term "soggy toast". I used to also make broiled sandwiches of Spam or Treet with cheese spreading lots of butter on the top of the bread. I liked the gooey middle where the butter was contrasted with the crispy, crunchy edges.

I make Cinnamon toast that way, except I melt the butter, cinnamon, and sugar in a saucepan, then I use a pastry brush to apply it, then bake it at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Oh the smell, and taste afterwards.

One of my all time favorite morning hot cereals was Quaker instant oatmeal flavor packs. After a recent hospital stay, and tasting their god awful version of oatmeal, I had a serious yearning for some real oatmeal with real flavor.

I just ate Eggs in a Nest and lo and behold, there it was (aat 12:16). I usually follow my eggs with fresh grapefruit and again.... there it was! Today mine was plain, but I make the broiled one wiith sugar (I use a kitchen tourch and tourmaline sugar). I first had it at The Ocean House in Rhode Island and instantly fell in love. DELICIOUS! Born in the 50s, I've enjoyed almost every one of the dishes in the video..... and still do. I love these videos!

Your mum cooked a rice dish I'd call Rice Gruel. In Norway we'd have rice porrige, the day before Christmas Eve. So much to do, getting ready for the next day, a simple dinner was fine. (As Christmas Eve is our main day of celebration). Leftovers were mixed with whipped cream, and topped with cloudberry jam. During winter we ate oats porrige one day, and gruel from the leftovers the next. Adding milk, and reheating. Love from Oslo 😊❤

When drinking Instant Breakfast, I never felt that I'd actually had breakfast. That's been replaced with the smoothie. There was no difference in flavor between Quisp and Quake, just the shape. In fact, Quisp, Quake, King Vitaman and Cap'n Crunch all tasted the same to me. I like Spam for breakfast! It's shelf-stable. Ditto corned beef hash. But the best hash was made after Dt. Patrick's Day, not from the can. My go-to morning brew is bulletproof coffee, made from cold brew. It holds me til lunch. I'm allergic to grapefruit. Scrapple is tasty. You had Maypo but not CocoWheats.
