I am 66 and just did a dream surf camp at Lombok 2 weeks ago for 8 days. I can relate to your feelings but I shall be there or Khao Lak next. I guess this old dog can still learn a few new tricks, and yes, paddling is the most painful and difficult part too.
@Sergey__Ushakov3 ай бұрын
Wow, thanks for sharing your experience! Regarding paddling, I’ve realized that after 3-4 weeks of surfing, the body adapts to the paddling, and it becomes much easier. Maybe it will be much simpler next time for you too 🌊

Friend your front foot (and back foot too) should be 90 degree to the rail it will help you stabilise and control the board . That is what was holding you back. Good luck

Good video that I will recommend to many people that are thinking about learning to surf. In the video you have one mighty flaw though on your take off: you grab the board on the side to push up, they should be flat under your chest when going into Cobra, the further back under your chest the more angle you create and therefore more space to get your front leg under and up front. When you grab on the side and push up there's an unavoidable unbalance as you push harder on one side than the other. Other than that I am truly impressed by your pop-up and the way you went about practising it. This video is 7 months old now so you probably will have corrected this anyways and are now surfin those mighty overhead waves of Bali.

Thank you for watching and for your detailed comment. I often struggled with grabbing the board on the sides during takeoff instead of keeping my hands flat under my chest, and I tend to forget this in the moment. Your advice is very helpful, and I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for your support!

What was the surf camp that you went with? Those waves in that location looks excellent for beginners. Do you have the website for the surf camp? Great honesty in the video, amazing progression so fast.

The surf camp was with "Windy Sun" Surf School in Kuta. Yes, the waves are indeed great for beginners-and not just for them! Thanks a lot for watching 🤙

Hi Sergey, thank for video, quite cruel attitude for those who do not obey the rules of etiquette)). I'm going to visit Bali in August this year, to learn surfing, I'm a beginner just had very first basics lesson in Thailand. Deciding going Solo and hire tutor for 1:1 lesson on a beach or have Surfcamp which could probably be more expensive. What would you recommend? If you recommend Surfcamp which one you would prefer? .
@Sergey__Ushakov8 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment) Indeed, a surf camp or lessons at a surf school will be more expensive than lessons on the beach with locals. If your goal is just to try it out and have fun, I think one lesson with an instructor on the beach should be enough. But if you want to learn to surf, I definitely recommend going to a school. You don't necessarily have to buy a surf camp package; you can just buy a lesson at any surf school that you like. I've only been to one school, Windy Sun, so I can't compare it to others in terms of whether it's better or worse, but I liked it.
