You DEFINITELY should’ve suggested alternative mounting for freedom top removal. I remove mine every chance I get, and I also was thinking that NOT painting the topside was a bad idea for when rain gets on it (before I realized your application was for tops always being on)... I love the idea tho, and believe things like this are SO IMPORTANT TO SHARE because the Jeep rabbit hole is one that has swallowed many a fine man. 😂 awesome stuff bro.

I was thinking maybe offset the console a tad to the passenger side, and just doing the same mounting bracket on both ends. its a good idea, im not fond of drilling holes though.

Just built one for my 98 TJ. Using this principle with a couple mods. Of course in 2023, the metal peg board is now $22. Thanks so much for showing this! Now off to going camping here on Vancouver Island!

That was awesome! I added super strut channel parallel to the windshield and mounted it to the roll bar on each side with chain link fence brackets just above the sun visors. I then mounted my ham radio and cb radio to it. Now I think i may add the peg board like you did and have even more space for mounting accessories.

Now that you have that great mount it can also have charging ports for the those gadgets going up there.

I know I watched this video a long time ago but never found any metal peg board you did not even at Princess Auto. So what I used is a TV wall mount as mine has slotted holes so I bought a length of flat metal with holes cut pieces to width as cross pieces for my hardware. Had to cut off the extra on the TV mount but a little filing and paint all looks good. I decided to go under that metal loop on the front so I can take my panels off. Thanks Cappy for the great idea, I didn't want to pay what they are asking for a factory overhead system. Alberta 🇨🇦

Nice. The new jeeps have bo place for a radio and I’m a old school radio fan. This is a great use of space. I’m like some others tho. My tops get yanked constantly so an easy mod to the front is a must.

Dang it I was just at the hardware store earlier today buying Reflectix insulation to install on my hardtop roof panels to help with the heat. I also plan on pulling the carpet out and putting some on the floor underneath the carpet. $25 for a 25’ roll. I am going back for this panel.

You need the arc XO Extreme Trailer Jack for your Off Grid trailer. Check it out. There's a really clean after market mounting bracket on ebay that allows you to mount the XO directly to the Off Grid trailer with no cutting, drilling or welding. All you need is a few hand wrenches.

I love the idea in general but I take my hardtop off and switch to my soft top as long as I possibly can, I wonder if this can be modified to the front like you did the back. If you ever do this for someone else in the style I mentioned I would love to see it.

You say it's aluminum and magnetic. If you've found a source for magnetic aluminum please let me know because that would be a game changer. Seriously, it's probably mild steel.
@DohcterT

In the beginning of the video you said it was "aluminum peg board" but aluminum is definitely not magnetic......so...how is it magnetic?

@insaynbcr
@insaynbcr 4 жыл бұрын
Cappy, when you described the metal in the first minute or so, you said it was aluminum. When your buddy cut it, it threw sparks like mild steel. Aluminum does not spark (if at all) when using a cutoff wheel. Are you sure it was aluminum, as it also looks like 20-22 guage thickness, which aluminum would be pretty floppy in that thickness. Test it with a magnet and report back. This way folks are not ordering the wrong material by mistake.

It is 20gauge galvanized steel, I have bought a few of these pieces from Princess Auto for shop projects.

@Steve_MFr

Aluminium is a metal as well.... How 'bout 'ferrous metal' if you want to go down that route. Really not trying to be a smart ass, but this is pretty basic stuff. Too many comic books under the desk in grade school? ;-p Seriously though, if I understood how you mounted the front of that under the CB, you have the entire weight of the CB plus whatever is on the front half of the console hanging on one drywall screw? I would not trust that. One solid bump and that will be coming down. If that bump happens to be a pothole on the highway at 70mph and the CB smacks the driver in the face, that could even have very serious consequences .
@410Expedition
@410Expedition 4 жыл бұрын
A drywall screw’s breaking point is around 230lbs and it depends on how tight you push the head in.
@Steve_MFr
@Steve_MFr 4 жыл бұрын
@@410Expedition 230lbs in tension? Only? I'd have expected it to be more, actually. But that is beside the point. I would not expect the screw to break, I'd expect the threads to pull out of whatever material is in the Jeep's roof. I don't know if I would not be happy with a single 6mm machine screw in a solidly mounted captive nut or similar - 2 would likely be sufficient. You have mounted the CB to the console in a rigid manner. Static load, there is no question that it will hold. But when you are driving over bumps, etc (off-road...), the dynamic load can spike to many times the static weight of the CB. I really am not trying to be an ass. Just relaying what 30 years of engineering and fabrication have taught me.

Freedom panels & ya don't remove em !!! 😅 ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY NOT 💯 drilling holes into my panels or self taping screws into the plastic . I just removed the freedom panels and built one to attach with nutcerts & behind the plates that lock down the panels this way if I wanted to remove it there would be no damage or signs of it ever being there from inside & I could still remove the panels. Glad to have found your install video afterwards cause I'm always curious how others do things and supporting the jeep community....

Hi There! This year has been a time to take a step back and evaluate why this Platform has not been good for small "out of the U.S." creators like me. In the meantime, I've de-monetized all my videos for your ad free pleasure and KZbin will not be making money from me. I will begin filming again soon but hope to find a suitable platform. I thank you for your kind words and continued support. Cheers, Cappy
