It's awesome laying down a deep; heavy riff and having complete freedom to dominate it with a "concert"-tuned solo that soars into the stratosphere without switching guitars. It's like having both air support and heavy infantry at your fingertips. You don't feel cramped on the fretboard anymore and will even start feeling more keys open up to you without sacrificing bass (try the keys of C#, D, and even B for typical diatonic progressions and that's connecting dots within the natural minor scale). CHUG TIME! Fun Homework: Thanks to Drop A and seven strings, you can play a FOUR AND A HALF OCTAVE arpeggio from the open A1 to E5 (e string 24th fret)!! Even my Radium 61 MIDI keyboard doesn't have enough keys to do the same -- LOL!

Hey man, I pick hard too, and I couldn't help but notice that you pick so hard that the string goes sharp sometimes, like the low A does at 2:14 to 2:20 ish. Have you ever played a guitar with an Evertune bridge? They're great for stuff like this, it can be set up in a way that the string will stay in tune no matter how hard you pick.

I like to use a pack of 8 string .74! I remove the .64 so I can attack the first string stronger! I can even tune it to drop G# or G with a good tension still 😀

I thinking of buying an Ernie Ball 8 strings (10-74) for a 7 strings 26.5" scale and get rid of the 64 too, but I don't know if the 54 and 42 will have too much tension. I use a Ernie Ball 6 strings baritone 13 18 30 44 56 72 on a 6 strings 25.5" which is good to tune in drop G but very hard to play in anything higher than drop A. The problem is the 56 and the 44. So I would like to know if you use a 54 and 42, because I don't know any 8 strings pack from 9-74 as you mentioned.

To be honest for Drop A it’s perfect! If you want to tune lower you still can go to Drop G# with the same gauge! Lower than that you basically have to buy the 6 string pack + the low string 😅

Yes it can. You just need higher gauge strings. I use 10-52s for drop C.. some find that too lose, but it's really not. 11-56 would be your best bet if you're still new. Take it to guitar center and get it set up with 11-56s, say you want the action as low as it can possible go even if there's a tiny bit of buzz... voila, your guitar plays great.. even a shitty $100 guitar.
