@@Zawmbbeh It's mostly just to fatten up the chugs, bro. If the drums have their own kick pattern, then you won't have that complete silence in between chugs. I hope this makes sense.

@@bassequation3304 i see, but can't the bass do that too? as long as you have the bass range (70 to 140 or so) nice and big, that should mighty fatten the guitars up while the drummer can do their own things and fills

@@Zawmbbeh The bass does actually follow the chug pattern as well. (In most cases.) You can make those changes if you like, but this is just how they are commonly written. This is what defines it as a breakdown.
