As a fifth-generation Northern Californian with pioneer ancestry, my love for this state runs deep. For over 45 years, I've surfed the stunning California coastline, from Santa Cruz to Ocean Beach, gaining an intricate understanding of how the ocean influences our weather.
But that’s not all-I’m also an avid outdoorsman who enjoys fishing, mountain biking, skiing, and snowboarding. My passion for California's natural beauty and the outdoors enriches my approach to meteorology.

I always hear that 'inside slider' term. What is it? A storm that goes around the high pressure? Also, cool bathymetry graphic at Mavs!

Yes it comes off the Canadian plate so colder /dryer than what we typically get. Typically storms come from over the ocean. Warmer wetter. Sliders come from the north. Typically west slope Sierra can squeeze out some low water content snow

Um I’m going to venture that you are looking at “ con trails” con being short for condensation. A jet engine at high altitude emits hot exhaust out the back of the jet engines. That hot exhaust mixing with very cold, think Mt Everest air. The hot exhaust hits the cold air causing condensation. Think fog and you see that in the line the plane has flown. Nothing spooky or nefarious about it, water vapor preserved in cloud form at high altitudes.

I should have mentioned that these are most often ice clouds produced at high altitude . If humidity is low they dissolve quickly, if humidity is high they may linger or even grow.

I've spent plenty of time in California skiing and surfing and I prefer the lifestyle on the East Coast ...Don't know why this guy has to cut down the East Coast.

Afternoon Bill, I really enjoy your program and work. Missed a day or two lately. I don’t want to get political, but I have to ask your opinion about the spray clouds. Woke at 5, as dawn broke spray lines everywhere, now we are covered with a complete cloud cover. After the rain/storm front passed yesterday we had the first clear blue sky I’ve seen in a long time. All the radar shows the lines over the Pacific. 👨‍🌾⛰🌲
