I'm German-Irish and had a grandma who lived to age 96 eating mostly pork products rather than beef and a variety of veggies (cabbage, kraut, coleslaw, taters, etc.). I've never had scrapple; maybe she made this herself, I don't know and have never tried it. I didn't know you could buy pork liver, interesting. (We did have beef liver and onions as kids; Dad liked it, we kids didn't). The Dutch baby looks good. I'm 70 and cook mostly granny style for myself at home, don't care about fast food anymore at all. I used to have a waffle iron but found making waffles a pain just for me and got rid of the iron. I do make pancakes from scratch, very easy to do and have for dessert topped with fruit and frozen whipped topping. I also make shortcake from scratch. I don't make cookies. I make simple one-crust pies sometimes. I rarely do French toast. Love fried chicken but can't imagine why the waffle combination, though I'd eat both if offered to me. I do my chicken oven fried and even use my air fryer for chicken thighs, my favorite. My latest thing is using canned ham (Aetna Medicare Advantage decided I could have $50 worth of free canned goods that I never asked for, and I'm grateful for it. Makes a good stockpile. My granny also liked canned ham back in the day. I slice a piece of canned ham, fry an egg, toast a slice of bread and make an egg sandwich with mayo. Love it. We had a ton of cold cereals as a kid loaded with sugar, not a good thing. Used to have oatmeal and cream of wheat also as a kid and eggs and bacon on Sundays. I keep oatmeal but don't love it.

These people would be at work at 3am making fresh bread used in the french toast.Thick and you got big sausage;s not the links and real maple syrup. as those people just got too old or retired their kids took it over but instead of doing what their parents did.they just ordered bread and everything else from some campany. And that's why it sucks going out to eat. It's all processed junk and doesn't taste nearly as good. johnny cakes were served with honey. and Mr Donut had the best maple bars!

Get grits you actually cook, prepare them gently, and take them off the heat just before done -- and cover. That's a good time to add the butter on top if wanted, or if you didn't cook the grits with butter already. Leave the grits to sit and set up covered, to bring out its subtle flavor. It's ready when you can uncover and stand a tablespoon up in it.

Most of these items are still around (I'd never heard of Koogle, and I was a kid in the 70s). Some of these, such as the Fluffernutter and Deviled Eggs, are more popular as a lunch item. Many of the items you mention are regional specialties that are still popular, such as buttered grits and scrapple. Malted milk isn't just consumed at breakfast; it's a very popular additive in milkshakes. Rice Krispies treats are usually not a breakfast food but a midday snack. Corned beef hash has always been way more common than hamburger hash. I am surprised that you had the bologna and egg sandwich but not the pork roll and egg sandwich popular in the mid-Atlantic states (eastern PA, NJ, and parts of NY).

Ive never understood instant grits. Its real easy to just make grits. Funny thing is i never had grits before i joined the Army. One breakfast. Moving through the chow line fast as usual. And eyes 3/4 closed i got grits. Didnt know what they were until i bit into it. And was still a bit confused because i didnt know grits were corn. The other thing that happened in basic. Another breakfast. 3/4 sleep. I got pankcakes. And miss identifed peanut butter for butter. Well. I often eat peanut butter on pancakes now. With lots of syrup. And grits are easy to make. Just buy a 50 lbs bag of dent corn ( from a feed store) Put 1/2 cup in a blender dry. High speed for a minute 2 cups water to boil Add tour ground corn Put on simmer. Stir. 2 minutes later stir. Turn off stove Let set for 3 to 10 minutes. And ready to serve. Btw you can also do this with wheat, rye, barley, or many other grains. Or mix them. Add butter salt or whatever. Want a wild one. Add Mesquite beans at 10%. Dont use more then 10% or 1/10. Mesquite is a strong licorice taste.
