I'm German-Irish and had a grandma who lived to age 96 eating mostly pork products rather than beef and a variety of veggies (cabbage, kraut, coleslaw, taters, etc.). I've never had scrapple; maybe she made this herself, I don't know and have never tried it. I didn't know you could buy pork liver, interesting. (We did have beef liver and onions as kids; Dad liked it, we kids didn't). The Dutch baby looks good. I'm 70 and cook mostly granny style for myself at home, don't care about fast food anymore at all. I used to have a waffle iron but found making waffles a pain just for me and got rid of the iron. I do make pancakes from scratch, very easy to do and have for dessert topped with fruit and frozen whipped topping. I also make shortcake from scratch. I don't make cookies. I make simple one-crust pies sometimes. I rarely do French toast. Love fried chicken but can't imagine why the waffle combination, though I'd eat both if offered to me. I do my chicken oven fried and even use my air fryer for chicken thighs, my favorite. My latest thing is using canned ham (Aetna Medicare Advantage decided I could have $50 worth of free canned goods that I never asked for, and I'm grateful for it. Makes a good stockpile. My granny also liked canned ham back in the day. I slice a piece of canned ham, fry an egg, toast a slice of bread and make an egg sandwich with mayo. Love it. We had a ton of cold cereals as a kid loaded with sugar, not a good thing. Used to have oatmeal and cream of wheat also as a kid and eggs and bacon on Sundays. I keep oatmeal but don't love it.

The thing i loved most about growing up in the northeast in the 70's and 80's was the luncheonette's that were run by the old generation. These people would be at work at 3am making fresh bread used in the french toast.Thick and you got big sausage;s not the links and real maple syrup. as those people just got too old or retired their kids took it over but instead of doing what their parents did.they just ordered bread and everything else from some campany.And that's why it sucks going out to eat.It's all processed junk and doesn't taste nearly as good. johnny cakes were served with honey. and Mr Donut had the best maple bars!

I don't know where you got the idea grits went anywhere. Maybe national chain restaurants don't offer it, but every other restaurant that serves breakfast in my area serve grits. I'm in far west Texas, where grits were never as popular as the rest of the south. In fact here, refried beans are most common for all means, including breakfast, but grits are always available. Maybe it's just the national chain thing, and people that only attend those don't have a clue what exist outside of their small world.

Toaster strudels are still around, as are buttered grits, especially here in the South, though you better not make that instant stuff! Scrapple is pretty easy to make with ground pork, and is sold at Publix (though it's not at all as good as my Grandmother's). I've heard of fluffernutters, but the thought of them makes my teeth hurt! Never heard of Koogle, but I do love me a bologna, egg, and cheese on grilled buttered toast! Pancake on a stick sounds pretty cool, as does blueberry buckle. I'll have to whip some up. I dunno. If you like Cream of Wheat... But have nothing to do with instant grits -- they taste like their box. Get grits you actually cook, prepare them gently, and take them off the heat just before done -- and cover. That's a good time to add the butter on top if wanted, or if you didn't cook the grits with butter already. Leave the grits to sit and set up covered, to bring out its subtle flavor. It's ready when you can uncover and stand a tablespoon up in it.

My siblings and I would be served soft boiled eggs in a tall ceramic egg cup on which we would have to tap at the edges of the egg to crack the shell at the halfway mark to peel it off to eat the egg out with a spoon. This was in the late '60's. My real favorite of the decades was french toast. Just a simple beaten egg bowl that gets a slice of bread dipped into it and placed in a pan with melted butter. You can put whatever you want on top of it afterwards.

Ive never understood instant grits. Its real easy to just make grits. Funny thing is i never had grits before i joined the Army. One breakfast. Moving through the chow line fast as usual. And eyes 3/4 closed i got grits. Didnt know what they were until i bit into it. And was still a bit confused because i didnt know grits were corn. The other thing that happened in basic. Another breakfast. 3/4 sleep. I got pankcakes. And miss identifed peanut butter for butter. Well. I often eat peanut butter on pancakes now. With lots of syrup. And grits are easy to make. Just buy a 50 lbs bag of dent corn ( from a feed store) Put 1/2 cup in a blender dry. High speed for a minute 2 cups water to boil Add tour ground corn Put on simmer. Stir. 2 minutes later stir. Turn off stove Let set for 3 to 10 minutes. And ready to serve. Btw you can also do this with wheat, rye, barley, or many other grains. Or mix them. Add butter salt or whatever. Want a wild one. Add Mesquite beans at 10%. Dont use more then 10% or 1/10. Mesquite is a strong licorice taste.

Sausage wrapped in pancakes was not invented in 2017. Pigs in a blanket was biscuit dough around a hot dog or smoked sausage and if for breakfast it was breakfast sausage with pancake dough. Neither were ready made, always scratched made.

I don’t think some of this stuff was around in 70s. And chicken and waffles is definitely a thing now. I don’t think these videos are that well researched.

Ok....I'm confused. They still make carnation malted milk powder. My friend puts it in her coffee. And we just bought rice krispies treats for the grands

I put malted milk powder on sundaes. Vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup, malted milk on top with whipped cream. We call the sundae “Dusty Road”.

Isn't pop tarts just a more modern version of toaster strudel?
@w.reidripley1968
@w.reidripley1968 Ай бұрын
Not really. Both are amiable and kid-friendly; both go in the toaster, and that's about it for similarity. Brown sugar cinnamon may be the best Pop-tart, though strawberry is the most common.

NO ! They are made by completely different companies. Pillsbury and Kellogg's. They have no relation to each other - other than they are heated in the toaster.

The only ones from this list I remember are the toaster strudel, fluffernutter, and French toast with powdered sugar. All of these are still available in Minnesota. Where do you live that you can't get these anymore. Dutch Babies are still available here in Minnesota as well.

In England we have malted milk, we call it Ovaltine. It has wheat and barley and stuff in that’s supposed to be good for those missing nutrients in their diet. I wonder if that came from America or we just made one as well. Interesting!

I live in central Pa. When I was young in the late 60s and 70s there was a restaurant called Chilcoates in a little town outside the city. They featured turkey and waffles. After they closed I discovered that everyone else did chicken and waffles. After the turkey and waffles all those years ago, I'm just not interested in chicken and waffles. And no, I don't like scrapple.

Chuck did your turkey and waffles consist of turkey off the bone and put in gravy over waffles?

@@pennybechtold3524 oh yeah, freshly baked turkey, put on fresh waffles, a scoop of mashed potatoes with gravy poured all over. It was amazing, I couldn't get enough. The older folks always talked about my older brother calling it turkey and awfuls when he was little, lol.

@@chuckmiller6390 I always thought that is the only way to eat waffles was with gravy. I was shocked when I later on learned they put Fred chicken and syrup on top,of waffles. That is a cute story about your older brother. 🥰
