My classy self is sitting down to this video w/ a root beer float😋

From what I've heard about root beer, it's so nasty, tastes like a medicinal-tasting mouthwash and would be horrid as an ice cream float. I've enjoyed instead, ice cream on lemonade or better still, cream soda, yummy!!

My mother made us eggs a la neige for special occasions in my childhood. I attempted to make it once and I failed miserably 😢. Thank you for this video, all of these are tempting.

I still make baked Alaska pudding. Have one half done in the freezer, just need the meringue. And I make mine in the oven, not with a torcher.

My mother wasn't as industrious, but I ordered it in restaurants in the 1970s. Last time I had it was on a cruise in 2009.

Excellent history - and really interesting foods. Reminds me a lot of the things on the Townsends youtube channel - tastes we've forgotten.

The pronunciation of blancmange and mange is something else. Apparently, Jesus was laid on a mange 😆😆😆😆😆😆

Everyone stopped eating junket when yoghurt became more generally available. Blancmange, baked alaska, queen of puddings and other trifle type desserts are still popular in many homes in UK

Quince paste candy is readily available at most markets in Mexico. It's inexpensive and delicious!

Spoiler alert: Instant pudding is apparently the culprit that killed off all these desserts. 😅

Took me a while to realize the 'pudding' at the end of some of the names (Baked Alaska Pudding) is the English word for "dessert" kind of pudding and not American style Jello-type pudding.

Yes, which I thought was really strange for a channel named Vintage Life of USA. Clearly an American didn't write the script.

Had syllabub and tipsy cakes in restaurants in scotland 2 years ago. Both delicious. And quince paste is easy to find still in France, you can buy it it, a great treat for christmas. I make my own every year ! Snow eggs , or oeufs à la neige , are not rare at all ! A very traditionnal desert ( France) . Sometimes called iles flottantes. A favorite dessert in my household.

Quince grows well in our part of Oregon. We make it each fall.

Not about desserts from the 1970s and filled with stock footage of desserts that don't match the narration. Awful.

@@maryholden3136 it is thickeners, artificial flavour and colour that you add to milk. Yuk
@maryholden31365 күн бұрын
@@marleneclough3173 ... oh yes, I think we do have it over here. There's 2 things .. angel delight and dream topping. The first is meant to be mousse and the second an alternative to whipped cream. They're both chemical concoctions of powder for milk to be added to. They're both horrible. I tried them back in the 80s once. The kids had heard of them from friends at school. They didn't like it either. Favourite desserts in our house were apple crumble, trifle, cake, cherry pie and jam roly-poly. Occasionally rice pudding which everyone ate but was rarely requested unlike the others
