I was not going to say anything about this but... Last winter, after watching an episode where you went out to a junk yard in the rain, I ordered up one of you zippered hoodies. After two weeks, of looking at the Tspring sight and trying to figure out when it would show up (kept saying..in production or something) I told them to cancel the order (they charged my card the night I placed it). The robot answering my email enquirers kept assuring they would refund my card immediately... They never did. I like your channel and have subbed for a long time but...Tspring..or whatever they are calling themselves now are bsht. A $52 lesson learned. Keep up the good work.

My buddy and I did a similar job for a neighbour but with an interesting twist. Same customer complaint except a front wheel. Parts cannon fired same as yours except he didn't need a rotor. Bled the new caliper and off for a test drive to discover the problem not fixed. Super hot and same smell. After a fair bit of discussion we changed the only thing left, except the rotor, the brake hose and that solved the problem. My buddy said it took thirty years of automotive experience to see another one. I have fifty years and had never seen an internally collapsed brake hose until that day. The master cylinder had enough pressure to push past the obstruction and activate the brake but wouldn't release properly so lots of heat from the friction.

If you have a foot operated manual parking break, you should be using your left foot for the break & parking break. Your right foot is for operating the accelerator pedal. If you are using your right foot to set the break, you are doing it wrong & unsafely.

Hi, fyi: I had a break hose that looked ok on the outside. But found it had come apart on the inside such that, when you pushed on the break, pressure flowed to the caliper, and when you released the pressure would stay. It burned out several set’s of pads, before we found it. Great videos. GB from Michigan.

It's nice how straight-forward that was. On GM's new electronic parking brakes, you have to retract the piston with a scan tool. After the brake job, you have to extend them again and calibrate them with the scan tool.

My 21 Silverado rears are squeaking 2 dealers claim they don’t hear it…. I use parking brake daily. Is that a cause?
@FishFind3000 Жыл бұрын
Bmws electric parking brake had 2 options, one unbolt the motor and turn it in to retract it. Or 2, use a scan tool / software to call it to its service position. If you turn the motor in you just need to pull the e brake switch to set it back. If that software you have to tell it service mode is finished and it enabled it again.
@dougr.6734 Жыл бұрын
And that is completely ridiculous. These car companies have long-since wisened up to the idea of over engineering things to force the shadetree back to them and their $125/hr shop fee. I'll keep driving my old junk, thank you very much.

Owner's manual does not tell one any more than is absolutely necessary. Ignorance is bliss for the dealer.
@REDBIRD-95 Жыл бұрын
There's a hack on KZbin where you take the motor off the rear caliper and manually retract the piston with an allen key, replace the motor, then do the brake job normally. I don't like that method and think it might fubar something up, so I purchased a scan tool this spring to do the rear brakes on my 2022 Equinox when the time comes.

Same thing happened to my Father's 2014 Ford Transit Connect minivan back in June. I did a full pad and rotor swap on all 4 corners back in January of this year. His right front caliper is sticking so badly that we originally thought it was transmission damage - there wasn't any pulling to the right but there was a huge, massive vibration that would only occur after the vehicle had been driven for about 10-15 minutes, and the vibration was so bad that the steering wheel would be flip flopping back and forth. Then I noticed the massive heat difference coming from that passenger side front wheel! Vehicle had about 125,000 miles on it at the time with the original calipers. I also did a full brake fluid flush on it last September without any issues.

Hey Eric, It wouldn't be a bad idea to make sure there is no run out in the wheel hub/bearing. Its sometimes possible when overheating the rotor, it can warp the hub/bearing face and could cause premature rotor warping. Just worth a mention. I'm sure you checked off camera 😉. Love watching your videos.
@pgmurray76 Жыл бұрын
Don't I know it. I took my old Xterra down past the pad material in the front (at the leading edge) and it scored the rotor. I was like F it, oh well. Now I need pads and rotors. That disc became so purple and blue it warped the tiny hub. Oh well again. A fresh hub and bearing and all is well again. Plus that stupid steering bushing - bad design and the hundreds of miles of runout wasted it beyond tolerance for play.

Hi there Eric Musta missed this one on the first pass but thought I'd add my 2 cents anyway. I know working in salt country can present problems those in CA can't even imagine but consider this as reason the clamps are inconvenient to get to. The factory installed the fuel tank complete with the filler pipe prior to installing the truck bed. I always found it easier to unplug the taillight harness, unbolt the filler neck and ground wire from the bed, unbolt the bed from the frame and have my Josh lift the bed at the left wheel well while i lifted the right and slide the whole bed back at couple of feet and access the tank from the top while the truck is on or near ground level. . @steadyeddie7453 Жыл бұрын
Agree. The locked up rotor along with even pad wear (inner and outer) indicated the piston is sticking. Could be age. Could be fluid contamination that corroded the piston and bore. Wouldn't hurt to flush the system.
