You all must have a nice looking garden after that lime, and fertilizer must have helped the garden so much, and the grass lawn also.

+Sidney Mathious we have great soil too, so easy to grow stuff here

Yep, that's pretty much the way it worked for me. I have the same spreader. But when I did our garden everything got white including the tractor. If you want a white tractor it helps when you do the spreading when the wind is going in circles faster then you can move. Katriel hope you get to feeling better, wouldn't want you to miss out on things that happen without your approval.

+mi2tn Thankfully I am getting better! Well, at least good enough to catch most things going on around here. However, a couple days ago, we had a box of donuts with like 7 donuts left... but this morning there were only one and half there. For some reason I have two suspects in mind.

You can do a home test for ph. Take some soil, add water and baking soda. If it foams, your soil is low ph. Add vinegar to a soil sample and if it foams it is alkaline.

Tim, what did you add to the spreaders handle to make it long enough to use from the tractor seat. I am pretty sure the stock handle is much shorter.
@TractorTimewithTim5 жыл бұрын
Neighbor Bob made this extended handle. He used some PVC pipe I think. CAn't remember for sure.

Hi Tim,What is Inside of the weights,which are on the Wheels. Is it Sand Or is everything of the Weight Steel.Sorry For my Bad englisch.Loves from Germany NICO
@TractorTimewithTim8 жыл бұрын
+Nico Weikert I think it is concrete. There are two styles of wheel weights here in the US. These are plastic coated with concrete in them. The others are cast iron. I would prefer the cast iron, but they are much more expensive. I bought mine used at a big discount because folks don't really like the plastic/concrete version. I figured they would be good enough for now. If they break/split, I will get the cast iron version. I can provide the US part numbers if that would help you. Thanks for watchng!

I bet that spreader works a lot better now that you have the Heavy Hitch drawbar.

When i do small land i do by hand. lots of land i use the tractor. because you have to wash the tractor very well because of rust.
@TractorTimewithTim7 жыл бұрын
+jose luis fernandes yes, with fertilizer, it must be washed off. lime is different. It does not cause rust.

When you go from pelitized to ground lime you need to close the gate a lot.
@davidroberts32236 жыл бұрын
Use pelitized lime in your spreader works well.

How many ton's per acre did you apply? farm fields take 2 tons / acre to raise the Ph 1 point. Secondary benefit, if you have mosquito problem, heavy lime will reduce or eliminate the mosquito.
@TractorTimewithTim8 жыл бұрын
The soil test showed pH of 5.5, and recommended 110 lb per 1000 sq ft. This was over a year ago, but I attempted to achieve that amount. However, I put a combination of pelletized and powdered lime for short term and long term effectiveness.
@TractorTimewithTim8 жыл бұрын
Carson, How heavy does the lime need to be to reduce/eliminate mosquito? Are you saying that raising the pH from say 5.5 to say 6.8 will reduce mosquito? Or are you saying that you must pile the lime an inch deep on the ground? I'm just trying to get a feel for what you are saying. I have not applied lime to my yard. I was wondering if doing so might help reduce the mosquitos.

We had a public area, low land one rainy summer the mosquitos were growing in the grass. Applied a little over 2tons / acre and solved the mosquito problem. Called up the local Agriculture company. The lime treatment lasted a few years. I did the same at suburban location, spread at the same rate, it worked like a charm. The alternative was special chemicals applied by pest company at more than thousands of dollars.Lime is cheap, effective, non toxic, and good for the grass.

Drop spreader for lime, works much better then that rotor spreader, less dust and better placement on the ground of the lime.
